This is embarrassing no matter how many players was out or how you slice it. The Bears have talent on the bench that would be superstars on any other team in the county. I might get raked across the coals for this but this coaching staff is in trouble!!! No adjustments, a freshman qb that isn’t ready , and two years away from a coach that truly got what it takes to win in lower classification football. The new coaching staff almost immediately moves away from the system the old coach had in place and truly was built around what the bears traditionally have in the pipeline who’s is running backs. Where do the bears go from here. A stable of running backs a couple of athletic receivers, a defense that when healthy is extremely stiff. A secondary that is traditionally soft as cotton and a young coaching staff that has now shown that it isn’t where it needs to be with the talent it has at its fingertips. They will take the same beating next week , beat Saint Stephen’s by 7 . Possibly win conference do a little chest beating . What happened in Boone last night was unacceptable for a program that is this established and the talent it has across the board. Just go back to what got you to the pinnacle. You do not have the talent to do what you are trying to do with the qb you have. You do have the talent to do what you done in jk’s tenure if you use the qb you have on the bench and the multiple rbs you have in the stable. North surry offensive coordinator and North Surry results. It’s a joke , it’s embarrassing, and shame on the powers that be for letting a program get to this

Mount Airy went from #8 to #4 in the RPI for playing a 6A team, even though they lost.

9/19 - Schedule - St. Stephens Indians (Hickory, NC) Football 25-26 - 1-2

I was at the game last night as were quite a few others were. One of the differences is that I saw, and stated on here, that MA did not deserve all the back patting that was going on. Mount Airy was not, and has now proven, it is not a top 5 3A team. I am not sure, at this moment, it is a top 10 3A team.

Yes, MA had 4 players on the sidelines last evening. It would have mattered: some, but not much.

It truly is not about losing the game. It is about how we played the game, how we coached the game, how we lost the game, and when we lost the game.

First, it must be said that Watauga is just flat out good! Well Coached, ready to play, knew what to do, when to do it, and made very few mistakes.
Over the past several years, one of the things I look for is how of the opponent's players do I think could start for MA. Last night the answer was a resounding ALL of THEM. All--- of--- them.

Second, 7 turnovers for the game. SEVEN. No team wins that game. And unfortunately, I cannot think of a one that was the result of Watauga's play.
MA just played bad. No life, no energy, no confidence, not prepared, not well practiced, it was an offense with NO OIL, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE offensive play calling.

Third, and again, I have taken lots of heat from my tailgating buddies and others, but I have not been sold on this coaching staff from the beginning.
The defense is normally pretty dog-on good, especially in the trenches. But MA cannot defend a decent throwing team to save its life. And Watauga is a very good passing team. They ate MA alive. Which allowed their running game to become very effective.

JK and Kelly, before him, made half time adjustments. In three games we have not seen much of that. East Wilkes, enough to win the game but that was all.

Mount Airy has some very talented players, but we also have a few very lazy, halfhearted players, and some not very good players.
A top-level coaching staff will/would have taken the blinders off and gotten the team ready. Made changes, gone back to a system that has worked for many years. So far this has not happened.

Change Number 1 is to put the offense in new hands, hopefully much more capable hands. And put in different hands right now.

I am not sure what Change #2 would be. But if MA has any chance of having a successful (in MA terms) season, the Head Coach needs to sit down with his Dad, and perhaps a very tall assistant coach, and make some hard, hard decisions about how to move forward.

This post is written out of admiration and support of the Community we live in, and the school I support. It is also written to respond to a few blow heart jack legs that post crap on here about our program that has worked very hard over the years to achieve the level of excellency Mt Airy has strived for.

Apparently more than you. Have a nice day.
And by the way, I provide the awards, have nothing to do with selecting them or awarding them. The awards are not about me. They are about the players. Just so you know.

Watuaga has not gone deep in the 4A playoffs regularly without a very well coached team. Hopefully that was noticed long before you went up the mountain.

Now nothing to do with game, but isn’t that a beautiful campus and stadium? I have had the pleasure of working several of those deep round playoff games there and it was always great to see them on my schedule. The administration there is fantastic.

Good luck to both teams the remainder of the season.

The east Wilkes guy said it best in another post. Ma defense has always been tailored made for a run heavy style offense like Tarboro. Secondary has always been exposed. Styles make matchups. With that being said the Qb is a freshman, who’s came in with high expectations but still a freshman. The Bears have always had a host of really good running and a really good short passing game. Jk understood this and built the offense to those strengths. I would love to know how many state championships JK would have had with the talent Kelly holder had. The bears trying to throw it around the field with a 14 / 15 year old kid that hadn’t ever taken a varsity snap till the scrimmages is beyond me. Maybe they get it figured out . North Surry offensive coordinator and North Surry results. To the Tarboro faithful the scoreboard reads MA - 2 Tarboro-1 . That’s how it will read for along time.

And would be 3-2 in favor of tarboro if y'all played them last year and this year. You spent all last year hyping that MA team up saying they were as good as 2023 and then when they scored 7 points on Corvian and lost you disappeared. Hope you enjoyed those titles cause MA won't win anymore for awhile. I know that from 2017-2024 Tarboro got 5 titles. One of which came from beating MA. I'll take that over the 2 y'all have 😁. And coach craddock is better than Adkins check the resume 🥱.

Good point. But the state championship scoreboard from 2017–2024 will read Tarboro 5, MA 2. If you’d been good enough to make it to the big game those other years, the head-to-head might look a little different

I read it 17, 18, 20, 21, and 24. I read five championships in that frame. I’ll take that over two ;)

The drop off that I see with Mt Airy defense this year is in the secondary. It was better last year. Mt Airy as a whole was slightly better last year.

The Bears just ran into a master class of a coach with athletes in Watauga. Their coaching staff isn't used to going against something like that. I feel that the missing players would've made the game a little more competitive with less turnovers.

The freshman QB shows flashes of what he can do and other times he shows his age. I think the team will continue to get better as the season progresses. It's not the end of the world to lose to Watauga.

We went from #8 to #4 in the RPI by losing to a 6A school. Not all is bad. lol
That's why we scheduled watuaga for the last 4 years and this year AC Reynolds. It's win win losing to a bigger school does it kill your kids confidence usually if you do win it blows up their confidence and no matter what your RPI goes up. Granted somehow reidsville still always gets the number one seed 🤷🏼‍♂️

It makes a difference when you change Coaches. Coaches around that know JK called him the Tarboro killer.

How about East Surry that is 0-3 and next week at Walkertown? Could be off to 0-4 start.

North Forsyth is the only winnable non-conference for East Surry

Ma 2. Tarboro 1

JK 2. Craddock 0

fact based not exaggerated

But with that said Bears still win a crappy conference, barely , get beat up in the 3rd round. Get really beat up next week, again. That North Surry offense has gotta change . I imagine it will when 4 gets back. He will run it 60 times a night till the coaches get him hurt again. Very unfortunate to say the least . Last post on this thread . Slick Rich over and OUT
