Hanging onto Mac Jones and James Hudson are Stoops' top recruiting priorities of 2017 in reality. Signing Jedrick Wills is also right up there. But Jones and Hudson are already committed to Kentucky whereas Wills is not. Kentucky is going to need Mac Jones. If he sticks with Kentucky, then Stoops will be successful. But if he de-commits, then Stoops is probably going to have long term quarterback problems.

Jones is the real deal. He has great pocket feet and footwork. If he were on campus this fall, he'd get a serious look.

what I Like Best About Macs Video Is That He Had A Terrible Line And still makes throws. He was getting crushed as he released the ball a bunch. Some guys are good with time and clean pocket but go to hell when things break down. Mac seems to have the toughness in real games to go along with underwear Olympics.

All the kid really needs is some meat on his bones. Love his poise in the pocket and man does he have an accurate throw. Puts the ball right where it's supposed to be almost every time. That is one thing I will surely give Dawson credit for. Identifying and getting this kid early in the process may turn out to be a coup for us.

Mac Jones
Pro-style quarterback
4 STARS
Bolles
Jacksonville, FL
RR: 5.8
Ht: 6'3"
Wt: 181 lbs
Class: 2017

Recruiting Wrap: Jones is committed to Kentucky.

Performance: Jones may not look physically ready for college like some of the others on this list, but he throws the best ball of everyone. His ball always comes out smoothly and in a near-perfect spiral, especially on short and mid-range throws. His arm strength wasn’t as evident as it was the day before when he took home the RCS Quarterback honors, but he certainly wasn’t skipping any stones either. He won the Perfect Spiral Award for the most catchable ball for a reason and he’s just a fluid, accurate and smart quarterback.

Visited UK today and met with Stoops & UK Pres. Went very well.

KSR's Nick Rouch says:
After the visit Jones told me he had a great time in Lexington and that he will not be visiting any other schools. “I’m done, committed. Stoops and I got married today, done deal.”

I hope he takes a leadership role with this class. Perhaps with Hudson. That would be great.

Maggard had a piece on KSR and said something about he should continue to rise up the rankings maybe even up to 5 star status.
That would be a pretty awesome feat.

I'm pretty sure he already has. If he didn't create the 2017 class Twitter account, he's one of the biggest contributors. He's invaluable right now for his off the field stuff as much as his arm.

Watching the kid's video. . .

  1. His touch is outstanding. Lots of kids get caught up on the "I can throw it through a wall" attitude when hitting receivers. Jones drops the macho BS and puts the correct speed, depth, and placement on his throws.
  2. He has a live arm with a quick release, especially for having long arms.
  3. He throws a very catchable, gorgeous spiral. Lots of spin and a clean nose from release to catch.
  4. His eyes are always downfield, even with people trying to tear his head off. He eludes rushers in the backfield with his quicks (pretty athletic for a lanky kid), but only to buy time for people to get open.
  5. He's a quick decision maker, ideal for a west coast type / ball control passing offense (especially when you combine his mind with his accuracy).

I also love his loyalty. You know these schools are going to come after him hard now. The fact that he's stayed loyal to UK through the process tells me what kind of teammate he's going to be. No blame game from him, just leadership. :)

...which will test that loyalty. Jones is probably smart enough to see that his game would look a lot better in our offense vs. Bama's. Great to see the big boys wanting him but I am very hopeful that he is gonna stick with us. Still remember all the people dogging this kid when he initially verballed to us.

I said that schools were going to come after him hard, but I didn't think my prediction would come true in three days. Sheeze.
