Mac Jones is making a statement. The quarterback from Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles, who has seen his recruiting stock rise lately, wants everyone to know where he stands when it comes to his commitment to the Wildcats.

Jones has now had an opportunity to speak with Darin Hinshaw

Jones has other options. East Carolina was the first school to offer, although they're in the midst of a coaching change. Then came Kentucky's offer. But after Shannon Dawson was let go Jones was offered by West Virginia, Dawson's former employer.

Jones does plan to visit Morgantown, but fans should pocket their worry for now. At least compared to how the situation looked recently.

Kentucky's new offensive staff has been so busy and working overtime to such an extent that they've been preoccupied with filling out the 2016 class and doing all their diligence getting settled in their new roles.

They were just recently able to connect with Jones, a high-three star prospect whose ranking rose significantly after analysts were able to watch him play this year, and then see his film now that we're in the postseason.

"I'm 100-percent committed," Jones said after speaking with new quarterbacks coach Darin Hinshaw.

There was a delay in that initial contact, yes. That's enough to cause consternation for anyone. But Hinshaw now has Jones feeling both wanted and like a player that Kentucky needs.

"What happened was he hadn't watched my highlights," Jones said, explaining the lull in the hires and his initial conversation. "And he saw I was a three-star and then now he's been (telling me) how good I'm going to be."

Hinshaw and Eddie Gran have not yet had the opportunity to scout Jones in person. That may or may not happen at a camp or during the spring evaluation period when they hit the road. They'll certainly want an in-person opportunity to watch him to know what they're working with. Conversely, they were able to work with fellow 2017 quarterback commitment Walker Wood because he attended a camp at Cincinnati.

Now, though, it seems like everything's settled. At least for the time being, pending any other visits.

I know he's young so I can't say much based on how young he looks. But based on that picture he looks like a straight child at this point. Just at this moment in time, he does not look like an SEC player, more like a kicker. Not saying he isn't/won't be great by any means not judging his ability based on that at all. I honestly don't know much about him, he just looks tiny in this picture (he's probably tall). Looks like the 8th graders billy g would offer when he was the HC. Not saying the kid doesn't have ability and can't be good and not acting like we shouldn't have offered him because of that either. That would just be ignorant. Just an observation obviously he'll get older and more mature.

Don't let that fool you. Kid is on the rise and will get other big 5 offers in the coming year. If he lights it up next year at the high level he plays in in FL, watch for Florida and others to get involved. High efficiency QB that is focused on getting bigger and stronger that he knows he needs. Has the footwork and natural feel for the position that you can't teach.

In 2017, We will have Barker, Hoak, Jones, Maybe Johnson, Davis Mattingly and Walker Wood. That's 6 QB's on the roster. I know Mattingly is a walkon, but is there any chance him or Wood actually wind up playing another position? Mattingly is a pretty big boy, any chance they bulk him up into a Tight end?

Wood, definitely, if he gets beaten out.

By the time Mac gets here and spends 2017 redshirting. . . By 2018 . . . .
Drew will be a Senior,
Johnson will have graduated,
Hoak will be either a RS Soph or a true Junior (depending on whether Johnson comes to back up drew next year, if not Hoak may have to play in 2016 and will be a soph JR by 2018)
Wood gets his shot but with Hauk and Jones coming may end up an athlete (which BTW I love)
Mattingly will play Reese Phillips role most likely

With the flux of the QB position, that is not too many and is still a real good situation for Jones IMO. Depending on who they may bring in with him for 2017.

With the stud offensive line we're assembling, I think we'll sign a big time qb in the 2017 class.

I didn't read the username but about halfway through reading I thought to myself "I bet this is that Andre character" looks like I was right.

I don't think Wood is being recruited as a QB.
I don't know if Wood can be a QB at the next level, but I like the way he plays at his current level. I understand the level of competition isn't great, but I really enjoyed his tape.

Jones is a very good high school quarterback, who has delivered some big games against top high school competition in Florida. Everyone agrees on that. As far as his college career is concerned, opportunity and physical development will be very important. Jones is listed by Rivals at 6-2, 178. I haven't stood right next to him, but I saw him at a distance and he doesn't look that big. I learned by reading interviews that Jones has grown 2-3 inches in the last 2 years. Before that, he wasn't even on the radar screens of P5 schools. You don't have to be 6-3 to be a good college quarterback, but it sure helps. Jones is not a true dual threat, so size will be even more important for him. By the time Jones finishes his redshirt and starts competing for real at Kentucky in 2018, Barker will be a senior, Hoak probably a redshirt sophomore. Even if Steve Johnson comes to Kentucky, he will be gone by then. I am leaving the walk-ons out of the conversation because Stoops can't, and won't, turn to a walk-on quarterback. But other quarterbacks will be signed by then. From this point forward, Stoops will not sign another class without bringing at least 1 new quarterback every year. I will not even be surprised if a 2nd quarterback is signed in 2017 in addition to Jones. I can't predict how good Hoak or Jones will become, but the competition to start will involve them and others. If Jones continues to grow and develop, he can compete. But he won't be competitive for an SEC starting job at 180 pounds. He needs to hit the weight room hard. I am not saying he can't do it, but this will be very competitive wherever he plays.

All true Blue but as stated before, I know that getting stronger is his number one focus so not worried about that.

Agree he must get stronger. He also probably needs to continue growing taller, at least a little. He is listed as 6-2, but I thought he looked closer to 6-0. That might be tall enough for a dual threat with speed, but Jones is a pocket passer. Not big enough.
