He’s been with the program going on 3 years has he even sniffed the field yet? I wasn’t too high on him when he signed and still hasn’t changed my mind as he’s a big bodied individual but not sure his talent level and who else offered him but do you think this kid will ever make a contribution to Iowa? I think he’s buried too deep and should go D2 or something… not trying to be hard on this kid but what has he even showed? Absolutely nothing going into his 3rd year.

I don't know enough to comment on him really, but to say you've got have depth guys for practice. You just never know. We've had guys who came up from the depths in just their last year and made major contributions. If he's okay with his place and the coaches are.....

Iowa signs a few of these OL & DL guys practically every year.

It’s a process: (a) identify lower rated/under-recruited prospects with undeveloped potential, (b) formulate a strength and conditioning plan, (c) see what happens.

The above approach is over-simplified but every college team uses this recruiting plan to some degree. The success rate is necessarily mixed because the percentage of “can’t miss” prospects is low.

I'm guessing the first few years in our weight and speed/agility program will pay off for his final few years. I'm sure he redshirted one of those years so he'll have 3 more years to play. I wouldn't rule him out yet.

MBJ will be a sophmore this fall. He has three years of football left. The Iowa coaches must have felt he wasn't ready or they wouldn't have brought in Pace and Hawthorne. At 296# he may have the size but hands and quickness are a huge part of D-line play. Hearing good thing about the two portal linemen. Hawthorne spunds like a beast.

Yeah, it's way too early to tell. Some players need some time to develop and adjust. Give it time.

Well said, yeah he just looks “soft” unlike the others but like you said he has 3 years of eligibility left so things can change as he matures more

you are so right...even at 1x everything about that play from clock ticking down to the parabolic flight path of ball to holloway's fast jog looked like it was happening in slow motion

Mentioned in another thread but LB Jeff Tarpinian battled injuries to start as a fifth-year senior. He played very well and was obviously a hard-hitter.
