With mens basketball in the toliet, I guess it's time to start talking baseball. Is Mainieri the type of coach we've been missing since Tanner? It's hard to get a read on him. Hoping Perry stays healthy all year, hits a ton of HRs, and someone else steps up with power. Looking forward to opening day next Friday.

Mainieri is proven winner. However, this is the sec. It’s the toughest conference in the country and Kingston didn’t exactly light it up on the recruiting front, so it’s gonna be tough. We have series’s against 4 of the top 5 teams in the country according to D1 baseball rankings and UF, Clem, and MSU are all in the top 20.
My guess is this year you’ll see a more fundamentally sound team especially defensively, and a lot is going to depend on how the pitching develops as the season goes on.
Hopefully we can finish at least middle of the conference and get hot late.

Being an LSU guy, he understands excellence and pressure. My only concern is his age and time away from baseball, but those are minor concerns.
He was still very active with the LSU program in those quick 3 years, staying very much abreast of the changing landscape of college baseball. He wasn't "away from baseball" by any means.

Can baseball players receive NIL money? This seems like a quick fix to the baseball team.

All athletes can. It's just a matter of whether there is interest in baseball from the NIL folks.
The NIL is a collective that pays players to play. There is no requirement for a player to actually do anything with regards to name, image and likeness. The collective can decide to spend the money wherever it wants to.

That said, I saw where baseball is about to be able to have 34 scholarships compared to the old limit of 11.

I know what NIL is. And right now there isn't the interest in paying baseball to the extent there is football and basketball.
