Not really, but on-field logos are coming. Of course this sucks, but everything has to be monetized now.

To quote Harry Doyle from Major League II: "The outfield walls now look like the Yellow Pages. And any of you folks having trouble finding a good proctologist, might want to come down here and check out the area around the 375 foot sign."

Looks like they could have found a sponsor more in like with our color scheme - Dr. Pepper Zero or something similar.

Word is our new AD is using his Texas contractor for upgrades to the stadium instead of the ones that have been working on the stadium for decades.

Someone business savvy will have to explain to me what Blanchard Machinery gets out of this partnership. Brand visibility, but for who? Is your average fan looking to buy a CAT cold planer for north of $800,000? I reckon they'll get some luxury suites or something and lots of other perks.

How long before the players jerseys have ads on them?

Like Nascar drivers. And after a game, the players post game interviews will go like this: "Before I answer your question I'd first like to thank Pepsi, General Mills, Betty Crocker, Old Spice and Fruit of the loom for making all this possible"

Are we changing our name to the Caterpillars with construction machinery on the sidelines as a mascot.
Or maybe the entrance will now have Cocky riding out on a backhoe ;)
The train and caboose is changing to a covered dump truck. They will dump out Cocky and the celebrity starter on the field

My thought exactly. Not products for the general consumer and poor use of marketing dollars.

Why are you criticizing a business for paying millions to our school? They clearly love the school & have the money. Some of you would criticize the color of the lottery jackpot check!
Who gives a rat’s butt if it’s a savvy business decision? Seriously?
Do you have their checkbook? Are you a shareholder? If you have their wealth, get off your wallet!

Everything before your last sentence in your post yesterday at 12:55pm.
I expressed a lack of business understanding for how the partnership would benefit Blanchard.

Again, I ask, point out the critical part of my post.

You clearly read my post or you wouldn’t have asked. Who cares if they truly made a bad business deal? They obviously think they’re getting proper value for their money.
The article says they’re getting one of the new big private suites. They’re getting a tax write-off as a marketing expense. If the Cocks host a playoff game, they may get additional national tv exposure. Oklahoma, Kentucky & Alabama are all coming to W-B this season. Their name will be all over the tv.

Of course I read your post; that's why I responded. I have serious doubts you actually read mine before you responded, though. I never said it was a bad business deal. I asked for someone with business savvy to explain it to me.

It seems that you're projecting.

I hope Blanchard's sales staff can keep up with the surge of orders from buyers in Oklahoma, Kentucky and Alabama.

Without good information regarding the money plowed into this, it's hard to guage the advisability of it. One thing I know for certain: it won't affect me or most folks one way or the other.

It appears that the business savvy in this deal is a big new private suite and a tax write-off for the executives justified by a very large number of non-customer eyes asking who/what is Blanchard.
The president is a 2012 graduate of Carolina. This isn't really a "business" move, it is a donation that results in a lot of perks and access. Boyd Blanchard is already on the Dean's Advisory Council so he's not new to giving money to the school.

I'm pretty certain he isn't expecting any additional sales from having his logo on the field. He will just feel good seeing it down there from his luxury suite.

Generally, charitable contributions are limited to 60% of adjusted gross income. Advertising is not limited.

Also, being a bigshot in front of 80k people and a TV audience is priceless to some people.

It's only the beginning. It's annoying, but it is what it is.

One more thing to wipe the shine off of college football in general.

It's a brand recognition thing. Indirect advertising for your subconscious if case you ever are in the market for their product.

Does it "suck"? I mean who cares.. you're still going to watch the game. It's a reminder that support is there to put a winning product on the field. I swear, fans just will NEVER be satisfied with anything ever. It's especially confusing when it is a huge benefit to a program that has largely wallowed in mediocrity.

It sucks in the greater context that everything must now be monetized in order to buy players.

We weren't looking to put a logo on the field just because it looked nice. It was a move of desperate necessity to raise money to keep up in the NIL/Portal world. As I am firm believer that NIL and the portal suck, anything done to facilitate participation in those aspects of the game, to me, suck.

It also sucks because we all know this is obviously just the tip of the iceberg.

Yes, I will still watch games for now, but at least without a logo on the field, the game itself was a bit of an escape from all the crap going on in the sport. The on-field logo will be a constant reminder of lousy state of the sport.

It won't be really bad till they project 3d advertisements in flashing lights onto the players during the game.

In all honesty, this is a small thing. But I totally agree that its a sign of things to come. Each step will just be a small thing, and then we'll look back and the game will be very very different.

NCAA is considering allowing sponsorship patches on uniforms. Given the direction the game is rapidly heading, I can't imagine any reason they won't approve it.
