We have matchup problems all over the court. The only matchup I think we have an edge in is at the 5 spot. So how do we win? I wanna beat them so bad but having a hard time making myself believe we can actually do it unless we go something like 20-40 from 3 and realistically that’s just not gonna happen

Calipari is no longer the coach. That should be worth a few points.

Where are these “matchup problems” all over the court?

I’d said this in another post, but the nice thing about this game is we’re not expected to win. We have a first year coach who slapped together a team in a couple months against the mighty DUKE.

I HATE losing to Duke, but that notwithstanding, this is a no-lose situation so long as we make it respectable. We lose but we’re competitive, we probably stay put in the rankings. We win, and suddenly we’re a forced to be reckoned with.

Whatever happens Tuesday night is irrelevant. We can’t win the Championship Tuesday night, win or lose I expect us to be better come March. If we stay healthy!

Any chance that we see any new wrinkles in the offense or new actions that the team has been working on for a while but hasn’t showed yet bc they were waiting to use them this game and beyond?

Flagg is a matchup problem and will be for most teams. I haven’t watched Duke, but know they have some talented players.

Here’s what I want to see. Can Butler and Oweh pressure Duke and cause them problems? Will Butler and Oweh be able to take advantage of their strengths by driving and finishing around the rim? (Neither of those players can get into foul trouble!)

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pope doesn’t post Carr up on some ISO plays to make Flagg guard the post.

Does Duke get into an uptempo game? If so, I think that helps us.

Duke deserves to be favored, but we’ll come away from the game with a lot more knowledge about our team.

Looking forward to it!

Flagg has to respect Carr also. Kid can shoot the ball from outside and he's 6-11 235 and Flagg is 6-9 210 at most so he actually has a little size on him. I think Almoror at 6-7 244 could help on Flagg in this game too.

A few players get on from 3 like Brea, Jaxson, Kerr, Oweh I just don't know how they are gonna guard that and Amari inside. I mean we present a lot of problems with our players also.

We got a new coach who will actually execute a game play with high l vel D1 athletes. I just don't see this team out of any game with the way we play offense and shoot the ball. We're leading the nation in assists and avg 101.5 PPG so far.

I think our guards can hold their own I really do but not sure if our bigs can hold their own. Flagg is going to be a major problem but I think Jax Robinson is going to be a problem for them. I really think we win this game just a gut feeling.

We've got grown *** men patrolling the paint. Flagg's been dominating children. Sure, he'll be a handful, but he also has to play against those experienced grown *** dudes, too. This isn't a physically weak have to outathlete them to win Calipari team that can't shoot. Duke has to guard us as much as we have to guard them. Also, 6.5 points feels like a slap in the face. LFG Big Blue!!!!

This year is gravy man. We lost a dead weight and put together a roster from literally nothing with our coach working from behind the 8-ball due to the timing of Cal's departure. I have zero expectations for this season, I think we'll really see what Pope is capable of next season. So just sit back and enjoy the new era, if we win great, if we lose I'm just happy to have new leadership who I think can get it done eventually.

I don't think anyone really has a great pulse on what this roster can do, could be all over the spectrum, we'll have to see in the upcoming games against higher tier teams. But yeah, Pope gets a complete pass from me for how the roster was left to him.

Well let’s see…

1. We won’t deploy the Ruuuuunnnn and Gooooooo offense.
2. We won’t repeatedly allow the opposing team to score layups when inbound in under the basket.
3. The opposing team playing a zone will not be kryptonite for us.
4. Our PG will be very disruptive in defense.
5. We have the ability to score in bunches, and numerous players are threats to do so. Even if we fall behind, we have the tools to claw back in a game.
6. In terms of experience, we are the far superior team.

I’m verrrry interested to see how the officiating is for this game. So far this season, I can’t think of a single stretch where I felt like the officials were inserting themselves in the game and/or making horrid calls. With Cal, there was always an adversarial element with the officials in every game we played. I don’t sense that with Pope. We shall see Tuesday night.

Respectfully this is a ridiculous post.

But I do enjoy the logic that you’re worried about every other matchup, besides the top 10 projected pick big man that held his own in the Olympics against our transfer big man that has looked good but turned the ball over like a madman and has an awful shot.

Why wouldn’t they be. Kentucky has one the best offensive schemes in college ball, and will be the best team you all have played all year so far.
No totally agree conceptually. I thought he was implying he saw an article with a quote or something from the Duke coaches. If we shoot well, we will have Duke on the ropes. Their size on the perimeter concerns me, but if we are draining contested threes, we can beat anyone.

Duke is what UK used to be, the Freshman are highly rated and Duke is a top 8 team. This is a test for Duke as well. Is this a Zion, RJ, AD, KAT, Fox, Monk type team or is it a step below? We will see but those extremely special teams are very rare no matter how great your recruiting class is coming in.

That point you brought up could be a huge factor.

What if Carr posts up Flagg and gets him foul trouble? That could be a great strategy.

There is a lot more to winning basketball games than individual matchups.
