No telling how the game goes but I know for a fact Butler/oweh/Robinson/Kriisa can play In this game. They have all played in many games like this. Williams has an advantage I believe. With our shooting I think we can beat anyone. If we score like we have been we can win.

We have matchup problems all over the court. The only matchup I think we have an edge in is at the 5 spot. So how do we win? I wanna beat them so bad but having a hard time making myself believe we can actually do it unless we go something like 20-40 from 3 and realistically that’s just not gonna happen
You should buy an Arkansas shirt and sign up for their forum. You might be able to be a mod since there’s only a couple fans.

I’d said this in another post, but the nice thing about this game is we’re not expected to win. We have a first year coach who slapped together a team in a couple months against the mighty DUKE.

I HATE losing to Duke, but that notwithstanding, this is a no-lose situation so long as we make it respectable. We lose but we’re competitive, we probably stay put in the rankings. We win, and suddenly we’re a forced to be reckoned with.
I expect to win before every game.

What's ???

I love the search feature here. If you search “born and bread” you'll see that he’s had all kinds of combinations of aliases with the same born and bread nonsense and that he’s not a UK fan. I see where some said he’s a Memphis fan that has had 400 aliases on this board.

I don't think the game plan will be to put Flagg and Carr on an island. Carr isn't a slouch, defensively, but help from Amari and the guards swiping at everything could get into the youngster's head.

Flagg hasn't gone up against physical guys like Williams and Carr yet. How does he respond? Kerr is already talking s**t. How does Cooper respond?

Does Flagg even play as much as dukies want him to play since he keeps having cramping issues? Kentucky is going to run. Duke is going to run.

Duke is inexperienced and supremely talented. Kentucky is experienced and pretty talented. In the past, when the situations were flipped, that inexperience was to our detriment more often than not.

Kentucky has good defense. I watched some of the Army game and they just left dudes open on the perimeter. Can youth make contested shots?

Lots of unknowns for Duke, but IMO, way fewer for us. That could bode well.

Duke is what UK used to be, the Freshman are highly rated and Duke is a top 8 team. This is a test for Duke as well. Is this a Zion, RJ, AD, KAT, Fox, Monk type team or is it a step below? We will see but those extremely special teams are very rare no matter how great your recruiting class is coming in.
Yes !! Regardless of how good they might be … freshmen are still freshmen.

One big reason we have had trouble with them is that we have played them early on every year we've met. This year we are not putting 3 or 4 freshmen on the floor at a time. They always had some good veterans stay from the previous years too. The only thing about playing them this early is us maybe not playing together enough to be as good as we are going to be later in the year. I look for a competitive game and yes, I think we have a chance to beat them.

Who is this “we” you are referring to? You have already determined the cats are going to lose. So the only person that can make you happy is yourself and I’m sure you have plenty of experience in that.

I actually disagree with you.

Butler and Oweh are very good defenders. Duke plays 2 combo guards, don't have a true PG on the whole team, then their backup guard is really a SF (James). The 3 combined average just 7 assists. The 2 Duke guards are better shooters, but in most other areas I think Butler and Oweh are better. And while James is a better scorer and rebounder than Kriisa and Chandler, I still think this position is pretty even.
At the wing, their FR Knueppel) is very good. And his backup Gillis is good too. I think the same can be said of Robinson and Brea. I see that position as a tossup.
At the 4, we both go with a stretch-4, they have the very talented but Young FR (Flagg), while we have the 5th-yr SR Carr, who has played Duke a few times while at WF. I'll give Flagg the advantage, but I do not think he will dominate.
And at the 5, Duke has Malachi the FR and the good transfer Brown. I think Williams is every bit as good as those 2, and Garrison is close too. So I would call this a tossup as well.

This is easy. We rebound then we win. Unless Duke has a freak shooting night there will be rebounds available. That is how they are beating teams. If we rebound we win because we have a better offense.
I haven't really researched it but several commentators have said Duke is not a good rebounding team.

I do wonder if as the season unfolds we are going to see Butler’s minutes tied up with Oweh’s minutes instead of Kriisa. That way Pope could ensure that there is always an elite perimeter defender on the court at all times. Because Kriisa’s numbers through 35 minutes are nuts. 17 assists and 3 turnovers? Tyler Ulis level.

Why don't we just surrender? What is the point in playing the game considering just how dominant Duke appears on paper? Guys, this is a freaking basketball game. If we win, we perform post-game analysis and we prepare for the next game. If we lose, we perform post-game analysis and we prepare for the next game. The aforementioned are the actions of a true Blue Blood. Do you think Duke is going to call off their season just because of a single loss to us? Did Baylor lose their minds over their early season embarrassing loss? If you truly believe in Kentucky, grow a pair and stop all of the whining. Your hand ringing about this game is unbecoming of a fan of the best college basketball program in the nation.

I think this poster is attempting to gaslight us, but I still think my post is needed for some.

Reasons to feel better

The season won't end if we lose tomorrow and if we win, we don't claim any hardware.
First test against a potential title winner
We should get some idea of what work needs to be done, and where our strengths are.
Watch lineups played and adjustments made.
Enjoy the refreshing basketball that we can play

A long time ago in 1974 IU beat the Cats by 20 in December. The Cats returned the favor in March in the best UK game of my life. At this stage Duke is in a better position but come March no one will want to see the Pope in their bracket.
Ahh the memories ....

I was a young whippersnapper, a mere boy, going with my dad and family to that game in Bloomington. I remember Coach Knight slapping Coach Hall on the head, and as I recall, it was either one of the players, or assistants, or ... well .. it was someone that they held back because it was all mayhem after that went down and we had lost by twenty .... FOUR. I never accepted what my dad told me too, rest his Big Blue soul, in that moment, but that's another story, and why I will always HATE INDIANA.

It made it all the sweeter when we took out the Hoosiers hearts in March that year. Especially cutting, listening to Cawood call the aftermath of that one on the radio.... I think he said "well, Coach Knight is walking back to locker room and isn't shaking hands with Coach Hall .... and frankly, we don't give a damn !" ( or something like that!)

hahahaha !

I love the direction and new life of our program. I'm not bowing down or kneeling to dUKe and the phenom or any other team this year. We are Kentucky. These guys get that.

I remember another team that didn't have all the "talent" other teams had. It was 1992, and Duke had won the title that previous year..... We didn't back down to them when we met them in the NCAA tournament. That team played with, and made up for so much.... WITH HEART.

It was a pretty good game. I'm sure some here will remember it.

This year's team is going to have a lot of people here looking at the mirror at seasons end, happily stating to themselves that they underrated our team, our coach, and everything about the University of Kentucky ..... when it comes to basketball !!

Just a hunch ! I say, NOW .... Truly enjoy the journey !

Go Big Blue !

Meh, every team in the country is going take some L's in their pre-conference season...except maybe Gonzaga. We are going to learn a LOT about this team on Tuesday night. We'll also learn about our coach and how he prepares for games of this magnitude. However, I do like our chances better without Calipari. He was notorious for choking in these games against our traditional rivals. Win and we are a hot-button talking point for about 48 hours. Lose and it was totally expected. Seems the pressure is going to all be on Dook.

Cal didn't have the reputation for choking early here, he just stopped caring about losing early season games.

I saw a quote from him saying they knew Baylor was going to throw zone at them but the team was young and he didn't want to invest the time prepping them for the zone. Ostensibly its to prepared them for March I guess.

The insane part is even if he got the team do whatever he wants them to do, they'll still lose in March.

Calipari's recent record against our main rivals (not named UofL) was bad and his record against ranked opponents was worse. Give me any current SEC coach with the talent that came through Lexington the last 6-7 years and every single one would have faired better. He was horrible.

I said make me feel better about the game. So if u disagree with me how about explain your reasoning and that would help me feel better about it. Make sense? Lol
You made the claim, so it's on you to prove your claim.

You start by listing these supposed "match up problems". Then people will start either agreeing or disagreeing. That's how this works.

I think we match up good with Duke. I think we have more options throughout. This might come down to a possession or two game, might be a blowout either way. It will be a learning experience for both teams and by the end of the year both teams will be better for this game.

I am swing from minute to minute which way this game will go. It will be a game feel for me. Just hope our guys are as ready as I think Pope and staff can get them. In game adjustments we will see who the better staff is tomorrow night.
