Thank goodness Arizona and Maryland both lost yesterday, probably helped preserve our 3-seed in my mind.

My guess:

Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Friday/Sunday Games)
3- Seed Kentucky
vs.
14-Seed Robert Morris

Other side:

6-Seed BYU
vs.
11-Seed Boise State/SDSU winner (Play-In)

Don't think they'll be able to resist pairing Mark Pope up against his former team in the 2nd round.

I would LOVE UCLA as our 6 seed. Out of the Illinois/BYU/UCLA/UL bucket, UCLA would be a dream.

I don't think they would put a 6-seed Illinois so close to home (Milwaukee) which is why I don't think we get them.

We can't go to Lex obviously.

I think they used to, but I was trying to look at all the teams and its comes down to the 3 we have mentioned.

I just remembered a pretty significant detail.

BYU doesn't play games on Sundays, so if Milwaukee is indeed our location, we CAN'T get BYU as our 6.

That is significant.

Unless we drop to a 4 which is still slightly possible, don’t think it happens but it could. If Kentucky is a 4 then I can see them being sent anywhere and being paired with just about anybody

Most people outside of BBN won’t expect us to go passed the first round. Drake will be a popular Cinderella. Louisville will have revenge on their minds, if they play us and they have been really hot lately.

Would love Lunardis most recent bracket with us in the South. Illinois as the 6 would be a good matchup for us. They don’t guard anybody either. Missouri as the 7 against Michigan St i would have as a tossup if Missouri has Mitchell back. Auburn is kinda scuffling. They could lose to Arizona or Clemson in the Sweet 16. Marquette could even give them issues in the second round.

They almost HAVE to go against their usual seeding rules/guidelines to avoid conference imbalance.

For instance, in the matrix you posted above, in our region, 3 of the top 4 teams would be SEC teams, and 5 teams overall from the SEC. Meanwhile, Houston's region only has 1 SEC team (Bama). Would the committee do that? Not sure how they'll react to some of this. Could throw things way out of wack.

But I really hate early tournament rematches, so I hope teams like Mizzou, Louisville, Vandy, Arkansas, etc. aren't in a position to be our 2nd round opponent. Would rather some fresh blood!

As much as possible try to avoid Alabama, Auburn, and Houston. 3 teams who I think are the worst matchups for UK.

The rules I saw were first 4 teams from a conference, if in top 4 seed lines, go to different regions. Teams who played twice can't play before sweet 16, teams who played 3 times can't play before elite 8. 3 of top 4 in one region from same conference doesn't violate any rule I saw.

So good news is UofL probably doesn’t get another crack at us, the bad news is we get Drake.

Didn't we play Wisconsin and Marquette in Minneapolis in 2003? And that was with Tubby as coach and UK as number 1 overall seed.

They will start us out with a 14 seed that should have been an 8/9 then set us up to get a historic rival that is under seeded and closer to home in the round of 32. That's my prediction.

I just don’t think we get rewarded with Indy or Atlanta.

That would essentially be a road game for the 1 and 2 seeds against us. Michigan St. would have a similar crowd, but if you are Florida you would have to be ticked if Michigan St. was your 2 in Indy and UK was your 3. Your fans have three times as much travel as those two.

Similarly for Atlanta. Auburn will likely be there, which they are closer to Atlanta, so no big deal, but their 2 seed is probably St. John’s or Michigan St. if we are the 3 seed we have a distinct advantage over those two teams with travel and fan base considerations.

They will make us go East or West. I’m betting West. Tennessee or Alabama will go East with Duke. They won’t make us the 3 seed with either of those unless they have no choice.

Worst case is they move us to a 4 seed and stick us in the East with Duke. The SC has a history of creating those ratings matchups, so I could see it happening.

Let’s face it, the SC can do whatever they want and what is best for UK is usually not a concern for them, so expect the worst.

If things lineup like most people think they will, I see us in the West with Florida (ugh!).

Auburn or Duke will be the overall 1. They will be South and East. Duke probably prefers Newark over Atlanta, so put Auburn South and Duke East.

Houston probably gets the Midwest. They were above UF back during the reveal and have done nothing to drop themselves. Florida will be sent West.

The top two seed will be Tennessee, and they will be sent to the Midwest as Indy is closer than Newark for them. They won’t be a 2 under Auburn or UF. Bama is next. They go East with Duke. Michigan St. or St. John’s will be sent to Atlanta. I am not sure who will go where between those two. I am going to guess MSU goes there with Auburn. St. John’s is sent West.

The 3 seeds should be UK, Texas Tech, Wisconsin, and Iowa St. or Texas A&M. I think Iowa St. gets the nod, for the simple fact that it makes it easier on seedings and matchups. They won’t put UK in Atlanta or Indy. Bama will be the 2 in Newark, so they will try avoiding us playing them a 4th time. That means we go West with UF and St. John’s. Texas Tech will go South with Auburn and Michigan St. Wisconsin goes Midwest with Houston and Tennessee. Iowa St. goes East with Duke and Bama.

Texas A&M, Michigan, Arizona, and Maryland should be the 4 seeds. A&M will go Midwest, setting up a potential Texas tussle with Houston in the Sweet Sixteen. Michigan goes South. Arizona stays out West. Maryland goes to the East. Might see Maryland and Michigan switched around. Either way a Big Ten team will likely be the 4 seed for Auburn and Duke.
