I thought that settlement was for a previous wrongful conviction. Nothing to do with the MOM show,

Correct. That lawsuit and settlement were from the 17 years he spent in prison wrongfully convicted of rape.

The point is that he took a settlement because of the legal fees from his murder trial. Without being accused of murder during the lawsuit, Avery would have gotten a much bigger payday. Thus, the county had a motive to frame him.

This. After looking into it, I saw that he needed immediate financial assistance for attorney fees for his murder trial so they settled quickly instead of getting the deserved amount.

These cops, the Sheriff, and investigators knew the Avery family and knew Avery's past. They definitely knew Brendan Dassey was mentally challenged.
How did Deputy Coeburn know the license number and description of the vehicle on the radio before he was given the info. Police Dept may not have had a hand in the killing, I definitely believe they helped plant evidence.

I think the dude that told him at the gas station that the car was just down the street is how he got the plate number.

No doubt they planted evidence assuming it was Avery and whoever did it may have accidently been called on to help cover it up and thought they would help to keep an inside track on keeping Avery looking guilty.

Weirdest **** I’ve ever seen besides Crystal Rogers in Bardstown

It was crazy that the Sheriff asked over the radio if they had Avery in custody before the investigation had even started. That seems to go against everything an investigation should be. Let the evidence lead you to the criminal and not arrest someone and make the evidence fit to them being the guilty party.

And do a press conference and telling the whole town how YOU think it happened. yea, that just throws the right to a fair trail right out the window. the community pegged him guilty on the spot after the DA give his version without facts and evidence be damned.

Look, do i think Avery did it, or participated ? Yes. But he did not get a fair shake. Very corrupt police work. And they had several million reasons to make sure he got convicted, no matter what had to be done.

Fun fact: my company has an office in Green Bay and I work with some people who live in Manitowoc Co. They don't even wanna hear about any notion that Avery is innocent. Won't even entertain the idea.

I’ve always found that interesting. Like, do they look at the evidence and still think he’s innocent? Or do they just refuse to watch the evidence?

I can't even get far enough in the conversation to find out. They shut it down.

For instance, I was talking to one the other day, and to ease my way in I said I really felt sorry for the kid instead of mentioning Avery. She just said that the whole doc is slanted, and she knows somebody who went to school with Brendan Dassey and that he's really much smarter than they portray.

It's crazy. I just changed the subject.

The thing is tho, whether you think hes innocent or guilty..you cant deny the local govt there is corrupt. Even if he is guilty they definitely did all they could to make sure of it.

The only thing you have to ask. Explain to me after the trailer was searched 4 times for evidence, how in the world were her car keys still in the corner wide open site where even a blind person could find them.

Have you seen season 2? The evidence is even crazier

Yes I have. My opinion has always been the Police planted evidence to get Avery convicted. Now whether he is the Murderer or not I can't say. But without the Police planted evidence I think the case doesn't make it to court!

Yea I agree with you. After season 1 I thought he still could be guilty and set up at the same time. Season 2 has made me think he was set up and innocent.

If you follow Zellner on Twitter, she put it all out there and who she thinks did it.

Legal question I have..

SPOILER ALERT, TOO.

According to the MM2, Dassey is out of appeals. To the best of my knowledge Avery is not out of appeals. If Avery is exonerated later and/or found to be 100% innocent is Dassy just screwed? Could new evidence still get him a new trial even though he has exhausted his appeals?

Complete guess, but I gotta think he would be freed in that scenario. The only reason he’s in jail is his confession and with Avery free, that confession would be false.

Actually his confession is already false. He said they killed her in trailer and there wasn’t one spot of her blood in the trailer.

Another obvious reason why the police coerced a confession when everything he admitted to them doing couldn't be proven with evidence.

I am not ready to say they are 100% innocent, but there is definitely reasonable doubt. And that is all you need, well should need to be free.
