Oweh, Garrison, Chandler, Perry and Noah come back. Add Moreno and I'm hoping we get Johnson, Mullins, Ament, Yessoufou and Magwood as frosh. A SR guard and forward transfer.

What’s great about Pope is that no high school recruit becomes a “need”. Recruits will still be important. I think 4 a year should be the maximum number . But most of this entire team is transfers. And I’m excited to see what quality experience can bring

All the smoke I've heard lately is it's UK. He's got a 100% on 247 to commit to Kentucky. Not only that he pulled a Reed and said all and everyone is invited to his 11 am announcing Friday at his school in Town, "Kentucky". It's the same thing Reed did. If he's not going to UK why would he invite everyone to his announcement and 99% will be pro UK media members and fans? He will be a wildcat Friday.
I don't think the best way to build a team any longer is with 6 FR.
For one, only about 1/4 of the "top FR" are actually "elite". Then several of the rest think either they are ready to go to the NBA prematurely after 1 year, or decide after 1 yr maybe they'll play better somewhere else. This isn't just a UK or Cal thing, this is everywhere.
Assuming we have those 5 return, I think we might expect to see say 3-4 FR and 3-4 transfers. It will be hard anywhere, any time to fill the 13th spot, unless you have a clear gaping hole/need in your roster after 12. And maybe you hold #13 open for a just in case (like a top 10 re-class, or an unknown foreign player).

I don't see Oweh as a shooting guard, however. He never played shooting guard at Oklahoma, and I think by the time his senior gets here, he's going to be 220+ pounds. Dude is built like a boxer. Chandler's your shooting guard next season. Oweh at the 3.

Point guard is a position I don't mind Pope appropriating from Calipari going forward when it comes to freshmen point guards. Harrison, Wall, Knight, Teague, Wallace, Fox, Ulis, Dillingham, Sheppard, Maxey etc. Yes, there were some duds, but it's a position that I'd love to see UK continue to dominate at going forward.
Burries would be ideal. Put him in a backcourt that features Perry, Chandler, and Johnson and you're set.
I prefer veterans in the front court, with a stabilizing veteran guard or two in the main rotation. We've seen too many freshmen 4s/5s need more time to develop: Montgomery, Richards, Gabriel, Orton, Skal, Dakari, WCS. Give me a handful of guys like Sestina, Oscar and Carr instead.
I done expect to see Garrison next season. I think he will be the first player drafted from this roster.
Reibe a much better outside shooter than MM. If we are only taking one center, who would you take in this system?
I agree- times have changed in recruiting where transfers may be more important than any freshman players
I doubt he goes with 6 freshman. It’ll likely be 3 or 4 while adding more transfers.
Then if he only get 4 frosh I'd like Moreno, Johnson, Ament and Yessoufou. Mullins and/or Magwood have a ton of potential but I'd take those 4 and be happy. I have no idea about the 4 transfers but it should go like this.

Jasper Johnson shot 38% from 2, 27% from 3 on 8 attempts a game and more turnovers than assists in this AAU season.

You all who really want Jasper, you swear to god you'll blame yourselves for games his shooting leads to losses and not Pope? because its the fans who are putting the pressure on landing Jasper, the staff feels there are better fits according to recruiting guys.
especially with Mullins, that guy is a shooter

For optics reasons wouldnt it be better to break the bank for a player who is actually worth it? breaking the bank for Jasper's putrid numbers in AAU seems pretty foolish to me. throw the bank at Ament, Wilson, Cenac Jr , Yessoufou and even Mullins would be worth it more.
I mean it's not just me wanting him I believe our head coach already said publicly he wanted JJ to be the big get next year like someone said I think bnewt. The kid can shoot the lights out and we have a coach who likes to shoot outside a lot. It just makes sense to get a top 10 kid from our own city.
What if he doesn't ? Sky going to fall ? Couple irrational fans gets pissed ? WGAF what fans think if he doesn't sign him (he will), but if he didn't it is not a mass failure you are trying to make it out to be.
We don't need Jasper. If Pope signs him and he plays and costs us games then of course the blame is on Pope.
I doubt Pope will play guys just because they are from KY and he doesn't make promises like cal did with dj and edwards so even if he comes here I doubt Pope plays him much unless his shooting improves.
I for one am ok with UK getting Moreno and Johnson. Imagine a world that UK and IU get the hometown guys. Pope imho is a very respectable guy so bring on the storylines. CBB needs it.
Jasper wouldnt come here unless he has promises. A kid who insists he's a one and done wouldnt go some place that isnt promising to play him a ton
I’d prefer our scorers be veterans. Guys who will most likely be more consistent in the tournament. I know guys like Fox get it done but we had our fair share of freshman go missing in crucial games too.
If this is the case or he wants too much nil, move on to the next guy. Had enough of the players calling the shots instead of following the coach's directions
I hope pope promised him nothing. I hope pope layed out the team first, best players will play, etc philosophy. If JJ is making demands I hope the kid goes elsewhere.
Those percentages are concerning, he’s obviously well regarded, I just hope he’s not another Dragon case where it’s an all athletic ranking.

Maybe so but recruiting is the life blood of a school. We should always want the best possible players we can get. With the portal is pts not as important but still we need a foundation that hopefully stays 2 years at least. We should strive for that. The portal works best to fill roster holes or unexpected losses IMO. It would be just as hard to blend 8 new players a year from the portal. I know most likely many schools will have to deal with that but the ones who retain the best talent year after year will win the most.
I think the important thing especially for Pope’s first season is to tell the basketball world hey we got two 5 star kids right in Lexington and I’m getting them so go look somewhere else the pull of homegrown KY kids is real. I know both JJ and Moreno are not must gets for UK to be successful as the I'm sure we could find 2 guys in the portal just as good or better. It's the perception of hey were getting the highly ranked KY kids so go look in a different state. Not to mention Moreno is top 25 and JJ is top 10 in most rankings. I'm really sure we're getting Moreno anyway so it's JJ I'm not sure about.
