Marcus had a little rant on Facebook last night:

"Freshmen Year In College; I Had An Attitude That Scared People; But I Was A Winner; First, I Had Ervin Flowers And Warren Wilson, Take Me In An Empty Meeting Room And Attempt To Scare Me Straight; lol. I was a lil scared too. I'll beat they a** now...lol Then I Had Mitch Barnhart Tell Me That People Didn't Like My Attitude Around Campus; And I Better Change It Or I Wouldn't Be At UK Long; Then He Started Inviting Me To Church; I Went A Few Times. At That Point; I Started To Become One Of Them. A Loser. I Was Recruited Because Of My Leadership Ability And My Fearless, Bullish, Winner Attitude. And That's The First Thing I Had To Change; STOP MENTALLY BREAKING THESE WINNERS DOWN! LET THEM PLAY! LET THEM BE WHO THEY ARE! - it ain't the coach, it ain't the fans, it ain't the 5 star recruit, it ain't because UK is a basketball school. IF YOU WANNA WIN, hire the attitude, recruit the attitude, AND Don't be Scare of It ~ unfinished"

Here's another post from him:

"I know. It makes me angry. That's why I say, they are broken! This is not what we recruited! UK domesticate their football players, we are given standards and are tamed..lol - so don't expect a bucking bronco on the field."

"The whole squad was losers on the field. We sucked. When you except losing, you a loser, and a bunch of guys on the team accepted losing and had a losing attitude, judging by their work effort and off the field lifestyles. All across the board. Even though it was good players. So to answer the question, I'm referring to everyone from the AD to the n**** that paints the field. Yes we got upset, corrected mistakes, kick people off of the team, but at the end of the day, The SEC and the world outside of BBN, saw the dumb mistakes that lost big games, the INT, the missed tackles, the bad calls, bro, this post ain't about you or Warren, or the person who called you, it's about an attitude that KY has, both players and fans and the Attitude it Needs, which determines winners and losers."

Didn't Stoops suspend Dorian Baker for a hit he made last year, even though he wasn't penalized for it?

Not for sure on that.

Not sure he was suspended per se, he just didn't play the next game. At least he wasn't there to drop a pass.

Nothing wrong with that hit AT ALL and I don't think Stoops would sit a player for it. There's been a movement to wussify football for a while now and it sounds like something that would be right up MB's alley.

Did Mitch invite him to church after the Missouri game? because we were winning before then.

This is just one story out of a hundred after a five game losing streak.going to be a lot of frustrated complaints, and it don't bug me. It's a Facebook post. maybe it's true for him, but I'm not ready to say we've found a problem.

Yeah, I'm not so sure I really get this...... He seems to be saying if you go to church and are a decent member of the college community that you're a loser? Not sure I can agree.

Yes....I will never forget how pissed off I was when Stoops got angry at Baker for that... I loved that hit by Baker. He should have been PRAISED not YELLED AT!!!

Marcus McClinton is 100% correct. A bunch of losers being tamed all the time and not allowed to knock people in the mouth

I didn't care for the implication that if yougo to church you are a loser. You can certainly be a man of faith but still be allowed to have an attitude on the field. Playing with an attitude or being a thug on the field without discipline is two entirely different things. That being said if the coaching staff is not allowing the players to play with an attitude IE the Baker incident last year and making them set out a game for hitting to hard that in itself is a problem

So, did Stoops sit Baker last year, or did the league influence that decision? According to the article above it looks like the league was at least reviewing the hit, despite it not being a penalty in the game.

Not sure what he's getting at , what kinda attitude was he displaying around campus ? I'd rather not have a football team than have a bunch of rogues running around Lexington stirring up trouble . Then again , maybe Mitch is that much of a micro- manager .

Just for clarity, the OP is talking about former player Marcus McClinton, not current player Marcus McWilson.

Its called a culture of losing and KY has had it for a very long time and it does not look like its going to get any better. The teams Marcus was on was not deep and not the most talented but they played hard and had real leaders on the team. This program lacks it and needs to find it very soon.

He is not saying that going to church makes you a loser or that you should be a bully around campus. He is talking about priorities. The number one priority should be winning. You bring in these raw and mean guys and you will have an occasional issue and you deal with it case by case. MC is saying that the priority at UK is making sure everybody is a fine young man even if its at the expense of winning. Its just his opinion but he has been through the program and it makes sense how that would relate to some of our other decisions. This goes all the way back to not letting Hartline play in the bowl game.

That's one of those posts that you want to get mad about, but you can't because it is the truth and everyone knows it.

I don't think that church has anything to do with this rant, it's only there for context. It is much more about caging a wild animal type of argument. Watch the 30 for 30 about the University of Miami, both of them, will explain a lot.

Actually your church and faith should be priority if you believe.

If we think faith, family and responsibility should come after winning then we are doing these young people we identify as "high potential" at a young age a huge disservice.

After reading what was written I think it's obvious what was made important and what wasn't. Grammar and composition sure didn't take a front seat on the priority train.

I agree that all these things are important but that is not what we are paying Stoops 3 million dollars a year to teach. Doing your job comes first. Kim Davis is entitled to her opinion but it doesn't excuse her for not doing her job. Same with Mitch and Stoops.

JD Harmon had a big hit last year and was benched. Did not play the same again the rest of the year after that.
