Mark pope 0-4 against Nate Oats

You give Oats our team for a month and Pope his team for a month Oats would run us out of the building with our team.

And they would be prepared to play. They would outwork us too.

Pope wouldn’t even be prepared to play against his own former players.

And I’m not even an Oats fan.

It’s just the facts.

But, even though I’m not an Oats fan I would go pick him up and bring him here if Pope left.

I found the post you’re talking about. I have no idea what the two of were even talking about frankly don’t care. I liked the post because Phil asserted that he likes posts that he doesn’t agree with simply because he appreciates the thought pattern or it challenged his assumptions.

I also share in that posting pattern. I don’t exclusively interact with posts I agree with. I frequently like things that make me think deeper about something, that I find funny or I liked the sentiment of the poster. Then, I see your buzz saw of a post and it almost looks like you’re challenging literal fights from internet posts?? Dude, this is basketball — if anything someone is saying here makes you think about causing literal harm to anyone, that’s crazy. Regardless of how stupid you may believe I am, I don’t harbor any resentment to anyone on the board —- I’m not even wired to think of BBN as my enemies. I may challenge you sharply in debate , I may press your buttons or rebuke a concept with craftily-constructed thoughts, but I am certainly not here to make enemies. Mark Pope has a 63% winning percentage, has never made it past the sweet 16, has a total of two tournament wins, and has lost 10 games or more 80% of the time throughout his coaching career. He has never landed a top 10 recruit. Ever.

Keep telling me that Nate Oats is inferior to Mark Pope.

Well, I’d love to have Oates but I still don’t see what has changed from before. He said he didn’t want to be here. I don’t know why we think he would.

I think he’s an outstanding coach and if I knew I could press a button today to eject Pope from the chair and Oates would land in his place, I’d press the button. I fail to see why we think Oates would want this.

I’m not pumping for Oats to be a future UK head coach, but once and for all, can someone PLEASE post a link to any reputable sources, particularly Oats himself, where it’s stated that either…
A. He said he didn’t want to coach at UK, or
B. He was officially offered the position before Pope, and publicly turned it down.

Again, either put up, or shut up with this “Oats said no thanks to UK” nonsense!

How in the living hell are you getting all of that from my post? You need to calm yourself down Saul. Nothing I said about Pearl wasn't true. The guy had violations and Mitch is never going to hire him, and he literally just retired. That's all true. My opinion is that given that, it's silly for people to keep bringing his name up as a replacement.

As far as Oats goes, what I said is that a lot of the fans on here would not be happy with him if he only had 1 final four in 6 years. Maybe he wins more than that here, but that wasn't my argument. My argument is that fans (particularly message board types) have crazy expectations and expect championships and final fours a lot more than is reasonable. No, I don't think Oats would come here. But that in no way means I don't think we can't get an elite coach. I just don't think we are going to pull a coach from a program that is already having a lot of success where he is. We will have to find someone at a lower level who can use the UK brand to win a championship. Times are different now. With NIL, schools can compete without having to be a blue blood. Coaches don't have to go to UK, Kansas, UNC to win a title. Again, I'm not saying we can't get a great coach, but we will have to go the same route as other programs who have won recently such as Uconn with Hurley and Florida with Golden. Both of those programs got coaches who weren't already established at a competitive school.

Posters like you who make assumptions about fans don't do anything to help, although you probably really think you do. You just divide the fan base. Your pearl clutching and self righteous vision of yourself believing that "only your opinion" is what makes a good fan or will keep the program elevated is pretty narcissistic. The last thing I want is for us to be Indiana. But we disagree on an issue so instead of debating you just make ridiculous accusations. With all of that being said, you can kiss my ***.
