Isn’t caffeine a drug? Coffee is my favorite drug and I guess and RedMyMind2.0 thinks I’m a loserDrug users are losers...
Just pulling out my favorite lines from the 90s.Isn’t caffeine a drug? Coffee is my favorite drug and I guess and RedMyMind2.0 thinks I’m a loser
My wife and I enjoyed a couple of glasses of a wonderful Malbec earlier tonight with our steaks. We were so ghetto and sloppyAlcohol is such a dirty, sloppy, ghetto high. Like sniffing paint or drinking cough syrup.
It's like thinking long john's is the pinnacle of cuisine.
As the great Mark Twain once said:Isn’t caffeine a drug? Coffee is my favorite drug and I guess and RedMyMind2.0 thinks I’m a loser
Took me two beers and a fireball to get through that whole post.Excessive alcohol use is toxic to the brain and can cause significant damage, leading to a range of short-term and potentially permanent issues. The severity of the effects depends on the amount and frequency of drinking, age, genetics, and overall health.
How alcohol damages the brain
Alcohol-related brain disorders
- Neurotoxicity: Alcohol is a direct neurotoxin that can cause brain cells (neurons) to shrink and die. This occurs because alcohol disrupts the brain's communication pathways and alters neurotransmitter levels.
- Neurotransmitter imbalance: Alcohol disrupts the balance of neurotransmitters, the brain's chemical messengers.
- GABA: Alcohol increases the effect of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), the main inhibitory neurotransmitter, leading to sedation and decreased anxiety.
- Glutamate: It also inhibits glutamate, the brain's main excitatory neurotransmitter, which affects memory formation. With chronic use, the brain compensates by increasing glutamate activity, leading to hyperexcitability and withdrawal seizures when alcohol is stopped suddenly.
- Brain shrinkage: Long-term heavy drinking, especially in older adults, can cause a reduction in brain volume, particularly in the frontal lobes. Studies show even moderate drinking is associated with smaller brain size.
- Malnutrition: Alcohol interferes with the body's absorption of nutrients, most notably thiamine (vitamin B1). Thiamine deficiency is a primary cause of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome, a debilitating brain disorder.
- Compromised blood supply: Heavy drinking can increase the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease, which damages blood vessels in the brain and raises the risk of stroke.
- Inflammation: Alcohol is a brain toxin that causes chronic inflammation throughout the brain and body.
- Developing brains: The adolescent brain, which continues developing until around age 25, is particularly vulnerable to alcohol's neurotoxic effects. Heavy drinking during this critical period can cause lasting changes in brain structure and function.
Recovery from alcohol-related brain damage
- Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (WKS): This is a severe and potentially permanent condition caused by thiamine deficiency. It is characterized by two phases:
- Wernicke's encephalopathy: A severe, short-lived condition with symptoms like confusion, vision problems, and loss of muscle coordination.
- Korsakoff's psychosis: A long-term stage marked by severe memory loss (anterograde and retrograde amnesia) and confabulation, where the person invents stories to fill in memory gaps.
- Alcohol-related dementia: Caused by years of heavy drinking, this condition involves damage to nerve cells that control thoughts and movements. Unlike other forms of dementia, the damage does not automatically progress if the person stops drinking.
- Blackouts: When a person consumes enough alcohol to block the transfer of memories from short-term to long-term storage in the hippocampus, they experience memory gaps. This is an early warning sign of brain damage.
Important considerations
- Abstinence is key: The most critical step toward recovery is to stop drinking. Many alcohol-induced cognitive and structural changes can improve or partially reverse with long-term abstinence.
- Treatment options: A medical assessment can help determine the extent of the damage. Treatments may include:
- Thiamine supplementation
- Cognitive-behavioral therapy
- Nutrition support
- Medication to manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings
- No safe level: There is no level of alcohol consumption that is completely safe for the brain.
- Individual differences: The effect of alcohol varies widely depending on an individual's unique factors, including genetics, age, and drinking patterns.
- Adolescent risk: Drinking during adolescence carries a significantly higher risk of long-term cognitive and behavioral issues due to the brain's ongoing development.
Sardinia anyone ? Red wine is a huge part of their diet.Coffee and red wine intake are associated with longevity
Did you know?
Do what you want with coffee I guess, but I murdered someone the last time I had a cup of Joe.Coffee and red wine intake are associated with longevity

it's not the alcohol. It is the red grapes. You get the benefit with grape juiceSardinia anyone ? Red wine is a huge part of their diet.
It's enlighteningMy wife and I enjoyed a couple of glasses of a wonderful Malbec earlier tonight with our steaks. We were so ghetto and sloppy![]()
Mormons would agreeDo what you want with coffee I guess, but I murdered someone the last time I had a cup of Joe.
Hard drug.
If alcohol is permitted, everything is permittedAs the great Mark Twain once said:
“Nothing so needs reforming like other people’s habits.”
You actually don’t get the social benefit with grape juice - plus grape juice is super high in sugar. You’re wrong on this bro.it's not the alcohol. It is the red grapes. You get the benefit with grape juice
As long as you stay off the roads, I don’t give two ***** what you do. Hence the quote. If alcohol is permitted, everything is permitted
I'd say as long as you stay on your propertyAs long as you stay off the roads, I don’t give two ***** what you do. Hence the quote.
alcohol is much worse than sugar. You actually don’t get the social benefit with grape juice - plus grape juice is super high in sugar. You’re wrong on this bro.
Yes, alcohol can be addictive and dangerous like a lot of things but to pretend it’s some hard drug that kills all that touches it is quite incorrect
Never done ecstacy much safety profile is much better.
I tapped out when the neurosurgeon started to get too technical.Took me two beers and a fireball to get through that whole post.
Total piece of work.
Gonna need a translator in here, STAT.Never done ecstacy much safety profile is much better.

What do know about that? Never mind, I don’t wanna know.reminds me of guys sucking cock...
I've seen Iowa fansWhat do know about that? Never mind, I don’t wanna know.
The anti-drinking crowd is always a little weird/paranoid.
I think most anti-drinkers are dudes that are married and their wife doesn't let them drink anymore, so they now pretend like it is the worst thing ever.
Most drinkers fit into these catagories.
1. Happy Hour after work on a Friday with some friends and/or co-workers. You get 2-3 drinks, laugh a bit, ***** about life and go home.
2. Golf drinkers, get to the course with your friends around 8am, have a few beers on the course, grab lunch afterwards, have another beer or two and go home.
3. Drinking during a game/tailgating.
4. Unwinding at night with a drink or two.
But anti-drinkers think this is what ALL DRINKERS DO
A pass??? We literally created an Ammendent to banish it from our country. That has never happend to any other substance in the country.I'm against alcohol because it is ridiculous that it has gotten the pass that it has for so long and the negative affects the monopoly has had on society. It's also just a boring *** ghetto drug.
Give people a better option and most people will take it.
prohibition just outlawed the sale of it. You could still make and drink it.A pass??? We literally created an Ammendent to banish it from our country. That has never happend to any other substance in the country.
As far as negative affects, well, go look at the countries that do ban it and see what those countries are like. I will give you a huge hint...those countries are horrible and most of them treat women with zero rights or respect.
The 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1919, prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes, ushering in the Prohibition Era. Driven by the temperance movement, proponents believed prohibition would reduce crime and improve society, but it instead led to a rise in organized crime, a black market for alcohol, and ultimately proved ineffective. The amendment was the first to have a ratification deadline and was later repealed by the 21st Amendment in 1933.prohibition just outlawed the sale of it. You could still make and drink it.
the countries that have it illegal are crap due to their religion
But the consumption of alcohol was still legal. Like with cuban cigars, you could buy it all before prohibition and drink as much as you wanted. Many made their own beer/ale and there was no way to police it. It was a light prohibition compared to what we had for other drugs. The 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1919, prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes, ushering in the Prohibition Era.
