I know it's hard to believe but they seem to be hitting their stride at the right time and certainly look like they are capable of winning Conference USA. They are night and day compared to where they were at the beginning of the season.

The question is should CUSA tourney champ even receive an automatic bid?

Seems like waste of a slot for an at large bid.

I'm not going to disagree with you on that but that's how it is and if they happen to win the Conference USA Tournament then they are in. The better Marshall does the more it helps WVU.

They have a shot, I don't think its anything to get overly excited for until they actually atleast advance to the conference title game. As of now they have the same shot to dance as everyone else in a 1 bid league.

Is this a joke? They are 12-12, 3-3 in the last 6, have not beat a top 25 team, have bad loses and only have 7 games left plus the CUSA tournament for a chance. The only way they get in is to win the CUSA tournament.

The OP's point is that they could win the CUSA tournament I think.

If they did and grabbed a 16 or 15 seed, good for them, they will be excited to end their drought, I just don't think there is any reason to get excited yet as their chances are no different than all of the other small schools from 1 bid leagues vying for a chance to be slaughtered by UNC.

You missed the OP's point, which is this.

I get the RPI argument. But we'll get our seeding based on conference play. A push from Marshall isn't needed. So, best of luck to them.

I think it serves more as a backup if we dovetail in the last few games. I don't think we will but it is still reassuring our worst loss is still in the top 30.

How much does a Conference USA championship by Marshall actually help our RPI considering the rest of their body of work??

Its extremely minimal, they're 1 of 30 opponents on our schedule, them jumping out of the dead from being 180 to 120 doesn't do much. However if they can sneak into the RPI top 100, that will surface in a tangible metric of "record vs the top 100" which would actually register with the committee.

May not help in RPI, but beating any conference champion is still worthy of note.

I'll add that I don't think they have a chance on hell of winning their conference but they aren't playing like their season is over like they normally do after playing us.

The teams they have beaten in the CUSA are a combined 80-108

43% of their conference has yet to reach the double-digit win mark for the season....................

64% of the CUSA have a .500 or worse record................

That conference is where basketball goes to die...........

The chances of Marshall winning the C-USA are slim, at best. Would be nice, but I don't see it happening. UAB is the best team in the league, and the tournament is being held in Birmingham. If UAB somehow gets upset, then the Herd would have a slim chance, but I don't see that happening.

They might be the best team in the league but UAB has an RPI in the 90s, a team like that isn't guaranteed anything. This isn't like Gonzaga in the WCC tournament or Memphis in the old CUSA.

Did I win?
