I didn’t think the “he’s a 2 on defense despite being average” comment could be topped for stupidity of take, but then somebody came in and said he isn’t a 5/5 offensively because he doesn’t have a particular style you’d prefer and I was proven wrong.

A guy who was going to Elon until their coach left for Duke. One of the greatest low level recruits in B1G history.
This is an interesting thought experiment. Some recent low ranked recruits who became stars:

Zach Edey (#436)
Frank Kaminsky (#235)
Keaton Wagler (#261) (Obviously he’s just a freshman so recency bias. But he’s a projected top 10 pick now so feels qualified)

I’m sure there are other good examples but these are the three I can think of. Who else am I forgetting?

Yeah I thought about him. Certainly under ranked (#340). But only got 1st Team Big Ten one season, wasn’t a top-of-country statistical leader like Nick, and went undrafted. So I felt like he didn’t quite meet the (totally made up) criteria I was using

Mart is slipping from the national leaderboard. Even worse, as the conference season wears on it’s pretty clear he’s feasting on the bad teams in the conference and struggling against good teams. Says a little about Nick, says more about his teammates. But he’s going to struggle to get back into the national scoring lead at this point.

How do we feel about his 1st team All Conference chances?

I think it's second team.

Not sure your definition of lately. Last four games: We weren't beating Illinois, Michigan or Nebraska no matter what he did. Against Iowa, which was potentially winnable, he got 21, which is about his season average. Before this recent run, he was, of course, his old self so I don't know where those 2 wins would come from.

Tbh we could have beaten Michigan. Illinois and Nebraska no.

Michigan looked like a W until we fell apart. Martinelli may be hurt but his shot looks way off and he missed a lot versus Michigan & Iowa (both winnable).

Nebraska & Illinois embarrassed us, not debating those:

Brutal final season for him.

We fell apart for a reason. Michigan was dominant inside once they decided to go there and stopped missing their bunnies. Their coach said as much after the game. We weren't going to win that one.

Bad logic. We were up 15 and over 80% win to win in a game Martinelli was 5-22 (and 1-7 from three!). He has a more typical shooting night we’re already up a lot more before that and we score an extra like 15 points. We lost by 12…
