I definitely think we will see Tony Negron in at least one match. I see the mysterious Joe Lee is listed as well, which is interesting. Wonder if he makes his first appearance?
The match notes are about a reliable predictor of who will take the mat as the roster is on what weight they will compete at.

Now, Negron could very well take the mat - maybe for all of them. But Joe Lee being listed could result in him not even traveling or starting every match at 157 or 165. :) :)

I understand match notes. In know Lee has been listed before. Just curious what is going on with him. Preseason, he was the guy everyone thought would be starting and everyone seemed to think he had the talent to do well. However it was public he got beaten in a wrestle with Terreel. Then Tony Negron comes out of nowhere and wrestles a great match at Lehigh. It might be our weakest weight, but not one without drama. :)

Joe has the talent . Needs health and head back in the game! There s more to this story obviously. Maybe one day we ll know exactly what went on . I just hope he s ok whatever the situation and wish him the best! Hang in there Joe! We got your back!
Those who don t ? Who cares.

Negron is one to watch . They make em very !!!!! tough in North Babylon ( Suffolk County , NY) . ( Sean Carter App State from there as is one from my day Wisconsin AA Rudy Isom 1984 took 6th amongst others!) Seems like Negron blossomed late, found his passion for wrestling! Easy kid to root for. Imo asking ard he s a raw talent that can be developed! He s hungry! I like the kid! Could swear I remember him wrestling Busiello at 98 pds in the Suffolk County , LI-NY Finals. Bus won but I remember Negron fearless and tough. I believe it was like 2014 or 15. Unless he has a brother that wrestles? One to watch. Cael and co will get the most out of him. ? Is how long it takes. He s been at Wolfpack RTC worked a lot w Tommy Gannt and Tariq Wilson . Don t count this out.
TB great kid and attitude . Hope we see him take it to the next level. Time will tell! Keep the faith for all these guys! Points at NCAAs? We ll see.

I noticed Meredith listed at 125, I hope he gets a match. That would be three matches at three different weights.

I’d like to see that too, personally.

As for the match notes, the lineups are fun to look at but as we’ve seen with the virus and everything else, hard to predict things right now. That’s not just college wrestling of course. Almost every league is dealing with it.

I'm still on pins and needles that the matches happen. My 8 year old grandson (my avatar) just started wrestling this year, his practice just got canceled, Hampton twp outside Pittsburgh, so he went to basketball practice. He is a tall 8 year old, was a preemie baby who caught up fast.

Negron certainly is interesting. No big HS accomplishments to be wrestling D1, but he seems to be a late bloomer , as you said. With his background and road to PS, it is a little unusual and fascinating. Love to see how he develops. He certainly has the coaches and room to help him. Great story!

I’m preparing myself in advance for the disappointment if/when they call the event off. I certainly hope it goes, and I think the fact that it’s in Florida makes it more likely, but I’m just readying myself for the disappointment. And if it goes, I’m readying myself for the disappointment for all the great matchups that won’t happen. I think there’s a 2% chance RBY wrestles Vito.

Coach Cael would be proud of my mental preparation. This way, I won’t be quite as pissed and disappointed on Monday and Tuesday if/when the bad news comes down.

Although I remain somewhat skeptical that the event will actually happen, I’ve decided to invest $20 to watch the event, and I’m starting to get excited about many potentially great matchups. Although I’d love to see us face Virginia Tech, I think Arizona State presents more great matchups. My quick take:

125 - I’m most excited to see Teske and Courtney. I heard that guy Lee from Iowa is pretty good but doubtful we’ll see him on the other side. Will Vito wrestle at 125 or 33?
133 - Vito is as good a test as any for RBY. I think Vito would be the favorite. I’m taking Vito by a point or two. I hope I’m wrong. Korbin Myers of Va Tech is a real tough kid if we face them
141 - I’m most excited to root against Eierman, and hopefully he has to watch Nick win.
149 - I’m going to go out on a crazy limb and take BB over Yianni. I think Yianni is a decent matchup for BB. Similar in size and quickness, and BB might even have a small strength advantage. Of course, Yianni is Yianni, and he’s still going to win his 2nd national title, but I think BB gives him his only loss of the year. Or not. Andonian of Va Tach would be a great matchup - I wonder if they’ve wrestled before. I don’t know much about #5 ranked Parco.
157 - I bet we’ll see Negron in one dual and Bearclaw in the other. And if Joe goes, even better. His matches are worth the price of admission. Throw or get thrown!
165 - Marinelli vs. O’Toole is the match I want to see. Bull will win tomorrow but O’Toole will win in March.
174 - Carter vs. Mekhi would be great. I’ll take Carter. Is Valencia at 165 or 174? If 174, that would be a great match as well. There’s some friendly bad blood between PSU and the Valencia’s.
184 - AB vs. Keckeisen right off the bat. I hope AB is 100% because this one won’t be easy.
197 - I’m excited to see Max vs. his former team, and I can’t wait to see him torch this field, as well as everyone the rest of the season
285 - When the day comes that Kerk is truly 100%, Colton Schultz is like gnat that Greg swats away. I can’t wait to see Kerk at 100%, but I have a feeling he’s still not there yet.

I admire your optimism but BB over Yianni....you have to be kidding me - but I hope you're right. Vito over RBY - this should be a great one. I too thing Vito's style will be a problem for RBY....hope I'm wrong.

“You have to be kidding me?” No, I’m picking an upset. By definition, an upset would be a longshot, and therefore, my prediction would be in the minority and less likely to occur. Hence, if I were a betting man, I’d get odds to put my money where my mouth is. How about this? To prove I’m not kidding, I’ll put down $20 on Beau, and I’m sure we can find a confidential way for me to send you the money. But if Beau wins, which you say is a joke, what will you send me? I mean, I’m kidding, right, so this should be the easiest $20 you ever made. It’ll pay for your entire event. But since I’m obviously kidding about BB beating Yianni, I should get pretty damn good odds. Let’s see if you put your money where your mouth is!

Bold, to predict what Meredith (twice), Nick Lee, McKenna (twice), Sasso, Heil, and so many others have failed to do, and who is 0-2 against common opponents. Very bold.

When did Nick Lee fail? I recall him succeeding.

I realize I’m going out on a limb. I personally don’t think Yianni’a hit his stride yet, and I also think he’s a tiny bit undersized at 149. But he wins because he’s Yianni. I think BB can scramble with Yianni and keep it close and maybe even ride him for a minute. And everything else I said above.

You’ve got a 95% chance of being right. I’m placing my bet on the guy with the 5% chance. We shall see! That’s why they compete!

Hey I hope the upset does occur...but I doubt it! Are you linked into Collegiate Duals yet? Rokfin won't let me get to PPV.

Yianni beat Nick Lee in their only meeting, as he did in the matches against everyone else I listed. That's what happens when you are 72-1, and riding a 53-match win streak.

And I typically don't make predictions: it's tough to make predictions, especially about the future.

Their most recent meeting was at the Olympic Trials. Nick beat Yianni. And yes, I know it was freestyle.

I’m not a betting man either. But you do know that there’s a multi-billion dollar growing industry called sports betting where people bet money on predictions? I realize that there is not a cottage industry for betting on NCAA wrestling, but I am making a fun prediction for the sake of discussion on a discussion board. Feel free to disagree - you are more likely to be correct than me. But I’m willing to give you $20 for my “joking.”

I also agree with you about the difficulty of making predictions, particularly about the future. If I could only make predictions about what happened in the past, I’d be a very rich man.

Teemer in SV and then Valencia looked like worldbeater for first minute before barely hanging on for 11-9 win. Totally ran out of gas. 19-0 ASU

Sonny , Thanks for the updates. Traxler v Schultz will be interesting. 184, 197 too. Teemer from Long Beach , NY . Same town as Dylan Palacio( speaking of Cornell) . Teemer jr world bronze I believe. Great youth wrestling and coaching in LB. Valencia probably has jet lag in fairness . ASU is a very good dual team.

UNI and Cornell first. But if we were to wrestle ASU I like the way things line up. 197 Norfleet and 285 Schultz would be key. I like our guys here. Key is we go after it , open up , attack and keep building over next 2 days. Let s go!
