I’ve crossed some meets off my bucket list but not sure if I ever wanna head out there - but maybe on my way to historic Gallagher Iba arena. I’d love to get a ball cap with the pokes cowboy and mustache in his boots. It always bothers me when I see someone in street shoes walking on a wrestling mat. Can’t imagine stepping onto the mat in cowboy boots…🤔

lol. I share that annoyance. Youth matches are the worst. The mats are cleaned. Then the various teams arrive and each takes a different mat. Multiple adults walk around (with their shoes on) on the mats while they're warming up. Then they figure out the assignments and give them to each team. The kids gather around multiple coaches (still in their shoes), and get the match numbers written on their wrist. While this happens, a bunch of parents are on the mats (with their shoes on). Then, an announcement is made to clear the mats, or the refs at the different mats start blowing their whistles. After that, a cavalcade of wrestlers, parents, and coaches walk (all but the wrestlers still in street shoes) across the mats as they head to where the wrestler's 1st match is. And then, I have to ref on one of those mats for 4-5 hours. I've been tempted to inform the home team that now they have to re-clean the mats, but everyone is in a rush to get started, so that they can get out of there, so that never happens. smh

I think it happens everywhere... coaches, trainers, med folks.. Would be cool to have a super quick way to clean the mats..

Its an amazing venue for sure. Other than the "Stalllllllliiiiinnnngggg" calls from the fans as soon as the National Anthem is over.

On a related note, as a child of the 80s, most of the schools in my area, including my school, still had cinder tracks. A few were just getting real, legit outdoor track surfaces installed, typically around the football field. One school had a new track installed my 9th grade year, but they never thought to put down some outdoor rugs for football games to protect the track from football cleats. The one year we played there, they actually had the visiting benches sitting on top of their track. It always made me cringe to walk across their track with my football cleats, but if they are too stupid to not protect their track, what were we to do?
