lol... I'm thrilled to see him playing like this. I don't think I ever questioned his long-term value to the team though people twisted my words into that.

It takes a minute to adjust to a new level (college). Mathis has made great strides in the last few games. Even McConnell is showing improvement.
Montez is looking like a 4 star recruit... it just took him a couple of months to get acclimated to the college game. I still expect some hiccups, but his future is very bright!
Not just the last few games. He has improved game by game gradually over the entire season so far. Now he's finishing at the rac and has confidence and so happy we have this kid. Pleasure to watch and very smart on the court.

I love all our freshmen young guns but from day one I’ve said Mathis is special and has some intangibles which not many have in his pure toughness almost like an MMA Fighter and his natural hops. With his quick feet, he just glides across the court which will make him a great defender in time but offensively his ability to penetrate and finish along with his getting better every day jumper will eventually make him a star.
