I thought the idea of the Navy coach running the triple option might be the best solution for a school like Iowa State. Nevertheless they have had some success in the not too distant past since we played them in the Pinstripe a few years ago. Missouri's a better job but who know if that is really on the table. If Missouri takes Rhule, I wonder what the reaction will be by many here who think he is a one year wonder with a senior dominated team he inherited from Addazio.
Well it wouldn't change anything for me if Mizzou hires him. I don't say one year wonder I say not enough beef to say I want him, too short term success and his time as OC wasn't good either and I've given all the stats here before. I need to see some sort of consistency as HC or coordinator to say okay this guy might have a chance when he takes the step up. I don't see that with Rhule, not yet. The other thing is getting hired isn't the justification that someone is good. What he does after he gets hired justifies the hire but you can't know that for some years after. Just like the draft, same thing.
Herman was a guy I've mentioned here for a few years and I've liked him for some time. Houston hiring him didn't mean anything. Even this really good year he's had doesn't mean a ton yet because it's short term. When he does take the step up and does well that's when you know okay your assessment was right. I mean look at Chris Petersen from Boise and at Washington. Who wouldn't have wanted him with all his success there and certainly not short term success at Boise by any means. It's only 2 years but so far 2 under .500 conference records and about .500 overall. Still early in his tenure so I won't say anything much but I bet many thought he'd come in and win pretty quickly. So far he's done just about what Sarkisian before him did but again still early.
As to ISU yup it's a tough job, tougher than ours. But that's what I've been saying when people keep talking down our job. There are only so many P5 jobs and they don't grow on trees. Most of them will attract many, maybe not all, solid mid major coaches and P5 coordinators.
