Matt Elam is the worst defensive lineman I have ever seen with his size.

And just think the staff sees this as well and does not adress the issue at all. They think it is fine and dandy because they roll him out their and do not sit him. Has been doing it for years.

I was really hoping he could stand his ground and eat up 2 blockers this year. But that doesn't seem like that is possible with his lack of explosion

Hate to say it but the kid should of went to Bama. Poor development by the staff. He had size and obviously good feet to get the offers that he did. Top programs saw something and for some reason this staff has not developed him.

The difference between Alabama and here is he would be sitting at home or buried so deep in the depth chart that he wouldn't have a jersey.

You have to admit that he has developed poorly here. Who knows what would of happened somewhere else?

I saw Elam play quite a bit in high school so I've been interested in his development. Just curious......has the idea of switching him to the o-line ever been tossed around? His lack of explosiveness and nimbleness wouldn't hurt him as much on the o-line and he certainly has the size.

You do realize that schools like Bama recruit tons of players who spend their entire career buried deep on the bench, right?

Just because he was recruited by some big time schools does not mean he would've magically "developed" and played there. Based on what I've seen of Elam, I think he simply would've been a career benchwarmer if he'd gone to Bama, instead of the woefully bad starter he is here.
