Not sure if I missed this or not. Couple days behind on KSR. Listening to Monday's show. A caller asked Matt about Cal trying to get Matt fired. MJ ducked the question and then didn't really discuss in the second hour. Anybody know the story on this?

But isn’t it his show? Who fires him?
There has been a UK postgame show for as long as I can remember. Way before Matt Jones. Used to be Tom Leach, before him Tim Smile. Dave Baker may have done it at one time. I think it’s wlaps show. Matt is just the host.

Remember this old Cali-ism, "If you react to every barking dog, if you stop for every barking dog, you're never getting home."
See how that worked out for him.

Fired from hosting pre game post game call in shows
Ahhhhhhh, gotcha. That makes sense. I couldn't figure out what he meant and he never really addressed it again. Any idea why? Or just Matt not drinking Cal's koolaid after the Covid year?

I could see Cal doing that, Cal doesn't take criticism well.

I believe it started during the Covid year when MJ’s restaurant started running meal specials when we lost a game. Was a brilliant marketing plan, but pissed Cal off more than anything else. Then continued at end of Covid season when MJ “blasted” Cal for doing such a **** job, but being specifically “hard” on Cal for his failures (pre and post game attendance, press conference blabbering, relationships, etc). And when I say blasted and hard - it’s tongue in cheek a bit because MJ really did use kid gloves the whole time; could have been much worse.

But the restaurant special really really pissed Cal off.

Honestly, I never saw a person who did. It's really just a question of degree. Some are are better at hiding it than others.

Yeah, an employee just walked off the job at my company because I told him I expected him to do x, y, and z. He quit by sending a text to another manager about the "unchallenged venom" that I "spewed." Interestingly, this guy was in the Navy for 8 years! I can't imagine that his superiors always said things like, "Would you consider doing this job for us?" After a year of putting up with this guy, I knew that is what he expected from me. LOL

I never knew about the restaurant specials. That's pretty funny. And I could totally see that pissing off Cal and his fragile ego.

The difference is criticism just to ***** and constructive criticism. Lots of people take the latter well. Adults anyway. Nobody really takes the former well.

Jones brought up valid points (as we all did) and Cal didn’t want to hear it.

He sounds like a modern man. I bet he did, have you seen the military these days? Soft and allows things that shouldn’t be allowed in any military.

I still say the best thing for fans to do at the game against Arkansas is when Cal is announced. The crowd should stay dead silent. No reaction. His ego couldn't stand it.
Absolutely. But you could never get everyone organized to do that. Some will sit, some will cheer , some will boo . The week of the game I look for CMP to ask for everyone to be “classy “ and welcome Cal with an ovation.

Matt Jones said something this week that Cal tried to have him fired I think by IHeart this past year. Said something that Cal wanted and actually spoke to IHeart about getting it done. Didn’t really elaborate on why from what I heard.

That would be downright creepy and amazing to see

Also - if ANY fanbase could pull that off --> it'd be the Hogs

Yeah he said too that Cal made it clear that if he was going to return to UK he wanted MJ off the radio. Cal proving yet again that he's nothing more than an overrated, insecure, whiny b***h.

I am curious if Stoops does the same thing (not trying to get him fired, but freezing him out). Jones went pretty hard at Stoops after the season ended.

The thing that didn’t make sense to me is why would Cal have been saying “if he was going to return”? Cal was under contract and once he violated it, Barnhart wasn’t having him back.

I think he was referring to Half Pint walking home from school to do her chores before Pa got home.
