I know hurt made a few bad decisions early in the Clemson game and jack did preaty well on offense in replacing him but I cant help but think that he is a difference maker for us on offense and it's not just when he has the ball but also for spacing and flow on that end. If we want to win a championship K has got to let him play through some mistakes in tough environments. I'm sure K was sending a message but our offense isn't the same without him

Coach K may say that he doesn’t care about regular season titles but evidence proves otherwise. We have depth and young players. We need to continue to play that depth no matter the score. Get them comfortable in close games. Forget if we lose a few games.

He is good at finding the advantaged position. He constantly moves to where the best opportunity will be before the ball gets there.

I will say, I love his shot. It is SO quick, his motion is so small, and he shoots it from so high up... it's nearly impossible to block or even effectively contest unless you are up on him to start. Kid is tricky and a good shooter, and will throw himself in it a bit, and I know K will keep him as an important part of our team.

I get what you’re saying. It’s quite possible that K was using that game as a teaching moment for Matthew. He played 15 minutes, and was a little too soft out there.
K showed some tough love to him the other night, and if Hurt is the competitor we need him to be, he will learn from that game, and he will play better from here on.

We need Hurt to be great to get to the Final 4. He just needs to continue to get stronger and I think he's gonna be fine. His shooting and rebounding are gonna be huge for us down the stretch. With that said...let's be real, certain athletic teams are just gonna be a problem for Hurt, exact same way as they were with Ryan Kelly.

Clemson was certainly one of those teams. Seems like the SEC always has a few of these teams that Duke is much more talented than but they are just loaded with explosive athletes. Hence why getting Wendell Moore back will be so huge for Duke, it allows us to match up against just about any style.

As far as the loss Tuesday. I think K wanted to win the basketball game. Hurt was on the bench because he was playing soft and not hustling enough. Please go back and watch the 2nd missed Goldwire lay-up (would have been a massive momentum changer), Hurt could have walked to the rim for the rebound, he stood at the 3 point line the whole time, didn't move an inch.

I still say, we don't know when some of these kids are sick and to me, both Hurt and Jones looked under the weather. Could be wrong, but we just don't know.

True. There are a lot of things we don't know because we are fans and when we speculate and assume things we look awkward and stupid when the truth is known. OFC

Hurt has to be tougher. He’s shown an ability to bounce back before and perhaps this is the time. K tries to win every game he coaches- which i love a as a fan- but he also understand big picture or long term. Maybe the best for both was the same in sitting Matthew for the majority of the second half.

playing devils advocate, perhaps forcing hurt to stay in the lineup even though things were going quite poorly for him could have backfired long term.

if the player is sick he need to speak up and not be selfish and not hurt the team.

I think Hurt will be fine and he will be an important contributor to this team's success going forward and in March. While I don't think Duke needs a ton from AOC to have success this season I can't help but wonder why he can't bring more. As you all know he shows signs of being a solid player but he is so inconsistent. I have been rooting for him to break through for a couple years now. I kept thinking he would carve out a role but I am starting to lose faith. That poor kid just doesn't seem to play with confidence. Seems like the kind of kid to me who I could see transferring and then looking like a totally different player in a different situation and having success and playing with more confidence. I thought this would have been a good game for him to step up with Moore and Baker out and then Stanley sitting for extended minutes with the foul trouble. Seems if AOC couldn't carve out more in a game like that he might start seeing less and less playing time. I have always been a fan of him. It'll be interesting to see what happens with him the rest of the season and what he does next year.

We didn't seem to have a problem just a few short games ago when Matt was hitting so excited big baskets. Has he became our whipping boy along with Alex? Thought we were gonna make through this season without designating one. Yes I know we are just giving opinions. Hope he puts up 30 Sat. and see what you post. Probably nothing but if he has a bad game it's jump on the pile time. OFC

It's mid January. Lots of time until tournament time. Let's keep improving. Come mid March, we may laugh at ourselves for being so down on AOC and Hurt. Remember the GOAT has a tendency to know what he's doing.

well he was pissed after the game. We saw him getting on the bus had his headphones on, hold up, angry face and didn’t make eye contact at all.

We have to remember these guys are all still kids. They are scrutinized over every little thing they do or don't do. Matthew Hurt along with the rest of the players are all learning and Hurt will be a great part of the success of this team. I personally think this team is better than last year's team. I am an optimistic person but I think this team has just as good of a chance as any other team out there to be cutting down the nets in Atlanta on April 6th.

Good. He might be mad at K for not playing him, but this is on him. Put your big boy pants on Matthew, and play with a chip on your shoulder.

yep! Tre was the same way but he played his heart out.

Matthew is the very definition of a work in progress. Thing is, he’s incredibly gifted (obviously), but he’s a bit of a throwback freshman. There are going to be nights he wins games for us and others where he looks like he did Tuesday. He just needs to trust the process.

Remember that time when a freshman who was a little up and down for the year hit a buzzer beater three to win a game last year?

I’m calling it now. Hurt with a three for the win against UL Saturday. Book it!!

I’m not too worried about him considering he’s our 4th leading scorer this season and he’s scored in double figures in 9 of 17 games this season and in 4 other games he was a basket away from scoring in double figures.
