Maybe Bilas is doing something right.

We talk on here about how much he seems to hate Duke, I turned over to Raycom because I got tired of listening to him. The you look at the Cheats board and it is all about how biased Bilas is towards Duke.

Maybe at the end of the day, Bilas is a mad genius that has us all under his control.

I found Bilas insufferable last night, Felt he really harped on things Duke couldn't do. And while he'll go on and on about a questionable call in Duke's favor, he'll rarely mention a call that should have gone for Duke. He's still overcompensating. But he is smart and speaks well.

Pretty sure NOBODY (I hope) thinks he hates Duke. Whoever’s a Bilas fan....wow:confused:

Jay just needs to know what a charge or a block is....frankly after the last Uncheat game so do I.
Jwill is fine, as long as he counters Greenturd on set I'm fine with it

Williams was the loudest critic about Grayson Allen. Was a complete A**hole on national television and then backtracked 2 weeks later. Lost all respect for him at that time. #brotherhood

He was very critical of Frank Howard last night. He went off about that cheap trip attempt at halftime. Nothing wrong with him calling out Grayson 2 seasons ago, he was wrong. Props to Jay last night.

Wow. Tough crowd.

How many guys on ESPN are from Duke?

Jay Bilas
Jay Williams
Chris Spatola

I think there is also

Grant Hill
Jim Spanarkel
Mike Gminski

Shane Battier was an announcer for a bit.

Seems like there is a lot of Duke on TV, even when they’re not wearing the uniform. Pretty sure they are all proud of Duke, Coach K and the success of the team. Hard to imagine otherwise.

Now me? I’d be wearing my Duke sweatshirt on the sideline of any game. I think they do ok.

My only concern is Bilas is developing a schtick that is much like Vitales. It can start to grate. Would be nice to change up his stuff.

I don’t think there’s any dispute though that he knows how to praise the holes.

He has that down to a science and I really think he embraces the preppy, sweater vest UNC NATION. Nonetheless he's been much better in his coverage of Duke last couple years and seems secure in himself enough not to worry about bias toward Duke.Lol, of course Jay has always been plenty secure in himself...

Didn't Jay Williams say about Grayson Allen " I like the fact that he trips people, be a villain."

Post game one of the studio folks on ESPN said Duke had nothing to complain about because Allen had done worse 4 or 5 times....now THAT is bias.

I’ll take Dan Shulman or Reece Davis as the PbP. I honestly don’t mind Bilas that much. He gets annoying at times when it comes to Duke and UNC, but overall he’s pretty knowledgeable. I know I’m in the minority on this board with that opinion.

I think Jay is one of the best in the business and is extremely objective. We seem to focus on his criticism of Duke since he’s a Duke grad, but whatever he speaks about is generally a valid point. If he speaks about our poor shooting for example, that’s objectively true. He tells it how it is regardless if we want to hear it or not.

I'm still a Bilas guy. Him doing Duke-UNC games mainly bugs me because I know how much it will nitpicked here. But he's the best in the business, IMO. That's not to say I agree with everything he says or there aren't times he bugs me.
My thoughts exactly. Duke fans trash him for being anti-Duke. UK and UNC fans trash him for being a homer.

Bill Walton has them all beat imo. It ain’t even close. Dudes retarded but real and entertaining. Isn’t that what it’s all about. I mean how else do you define “best” with their job. Who’s opinion you agree with more? Lol

Bobby Knight wasn't too shabby as an analyst. Did he just not want to travel anymore or did he piss someone off at ESPN?

Bobby Knight wasn’t shabby as an analyst? Listening to him do a ballgame was as enjoyable as watching paint dry.
I think ESPN just didn’t renew his contract. Smart move.

But Walton talks about everything but the game

I watch to see and hear the game...I don't give a rat's *** about Walton talking about the grateful dead...total nonsense is all that comes out of his mouth

During the Oregon game (I think) last night, did anyone hear Walton talking about 'the honey hole'. I'm not a big Walton fan, but I couldn't help but to laugh at that...and how he kept talking about it, and watching the other announcer's reaction to it all. Good stuff.

I don't know, but he was cantankerous even then.
I think he's in failing health, like dementia/Alzheimer's...

He used to have a segment -- I can't remember the name -- where he'd break film down in incredible detail and it was really informative. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed his commenter work, b/c it was sure an unexpected fit, given his history w/ the media.

Walton reminds me of a stoned Vitale, which is funnier for the quirkiness and less annoying than actual Vitale.

Who was it who commented during a Wisconsin game, "You know, [broadcast partner], Wisconsin is known as the dairy state..."? lol @ HoF randomness.
