For as well as they played vs UCLA, they're playing equally bad vs Va Tech. Might be how this season goes. Jacobson, Gill, and McVeigh have not had a good tourney.

Looks like the gas tank is alittle low today. VT has better outside shooting which has been our Achilles heel.

Morrow is a stud.. I like Watson def..other than that Tai can run the floor but we just can't figure out how to transition...no identity on offense either. We have a long stretch ahead of us with some really good teams ahead in the next few weeks.. ugh

I can't say it enough but Morrow is and will be the best recruit that Miles gets and I mean that as a HUGE compliment. He is a ball of energy and a machine WHEN he only worries about playing his game.

He'd rather watch Jacobson clank another 3, miss defensive rebounds and brick a bunny.
Yeah I really don't understand it either. As awkward as Tshimanga is at times, he has shown he can do some good things inside too. Roby looks like Miles has told him not to shoot or do anything right now. I really think he needs to turn him loose some and take the good with the bad. You're not doing him any good by just having him run around on the court doing nothing.

7 for 31 from the field in the second half. Doesn't get much worse than that. Need McVeigh and Jacobsen to wake up or this team will find it tough to play better than .500 ball.

Agree. Neither one of those two have played well to start the season. We will need an outside game to combat when teams take our drive game away. Hopefully these guys were just tired today and didn't respond well to 3 games in 4 days.

Will still beat Crwigjton by at least 8 points when they will be ranked in the top 10

Fullers defensive screw ups allowed VT to take control and never look back. He belongs on the UNO roster, not Nebraska's.

We're not gonna win many games with 3 starters combining for 9 points on 3-26 shooting. On top of that, Gill makes two 3's in the first half and plays limited action in the second half. Instead, we go with Evan Taylor down the stretch. He's someone that gives us zero outside threat.

I will say, I do like our ball movement better through 6 games then the any point in the Miles era. It looks to me coach Lewis has already made an impression on the team from an offensive standpoint.

The encouraging thing for me is that we matched up against that UCLA team with 4 McDonalds All-Americans on it and it looked like talent wise we are as close as I can remember us being.....EVER. We have talent but they need to grow up quickly and gain some confidence. I think the shots will start falling more consistently for them. Gill is just pressing too much right now. He's got a great stroke and once he's more comfortable playing I think he is going to be real threat. We are so close.

Substitution patterns by some college basketball coaches boggle my mind… Sometimes it just seems like the smartest thing to do is to keep somebody with a hot hand in the game.

Miles is just mixing and matching right now to try to figure out who is going to be able to compete when we get to conference play. On top of that, we were playing our 3rd game in a couple of days and we needed to play some guys more minutes today than we might have otherwise.

Well, giving Roby what...one minute(?) in the second half certainly isn't going to help come conference play.

I didn't get to watch or listen to much of the 2nd half so I was kind of surprised to hear that because he played quite a bit in the first half. Roby looks like the real deal. I know from coaching just a traveling team that it's awfully easy to forget guys on the bench in a close game. That said, I'm sure there was a reason. It sounded like he was really struggling in the first half.

Miles has done that the last few games with Horne, Roby and Tshimanga. He plays them good minutes in the first half and then you see little to none of them in the second half. Playing Fuller in the second half and playing Taylor over Gill was mind bottling.

Got to say those 2nd half moves were a bit hard to understand. Gill hit two 3s and JT was certainly effecting VT's ability to score down low.

It's what? Year six? And we still don;t have an offensive identity? I'm ready to try someone besides Tim Miles. He's a nice guy,, he's in over his head here.

Offensive identity in basketball????? Really???? We couldn't make a shot it in the second half of the game. That has nothing to do with identity. There are going to be growing pains with our freshmen playing so much.

The offense bogged down in the second half, when the freshmen weren't playing.

Any basketball team needs to have an offensive identity and recruit to that philosophy. For the past 4 seasons he has ran some sort of isolation offense. His teams look like the Knicks with Carmelo Anthony. If that's what you want to run that's fine, but then you have to recruit a stud that can create their own shot and can catch and shoot and let him do that. Right now you have a 6 foot point guard who is your go to scorer and a 6'7" post player who is more Dennis Rodman than he is Charles Barkley.

When you watch other teams play, they have offensive sets other than the top of the key weave and people mistake that as ball movement. Mostly because ball movement the past 4 years was get the ball to White, Petteway or on occasion Shields.

Year 5 and yesterday really wasn't an issue of lack of offensive identity. We couldn't hit a jumper as we didn't have an answer for Va Tech's matchup zone. Credit to Buzz Williams as we really have not been good against the a zone for as long as I can remember. McVeigh is supposed to be that zone buster and he had plenty of open looks but was coming up short on almost every try. The only thing I would question was our lineups in the second half. We likely won't see that type of defense thrown at us much going forward.

We've ran quite a few offensive sets, outside of "the weave". Ball movement is night and day better than it's been since Miles took over, outside of "the weave". So is looking at the post for opportunities, and not just looking to look.

And running down the shot clock? Some people should actually pay attention during the games.

I'll watch it again. But I don't see many set plays. It was ISO basketball, the difference was that unlike White and Petteway, Watson and Webster will pass the ball. Then because everyone else, outside of McVeigh or Gill, is afraid to shoot, they pass it around until Webster or Watson gets it again. Morrow cleans up rebounds or gets loose balls and scores his 12 per game. But like I said I'll watch again.

Creighton cracked the AP Top 10 this week. Will make our win over the Jays even sweeter in a little over a week.

How do you see Nebraska matching up defensively?

Mo Watson
Khyri Thomas
Marcus Foster
Cole Huff
Justin Patton

I'm pretty sure that he's trolling.....but to answer your question, I don't think man to man it's an issue for us but our defensive style just does not lend to good results against a team like Creighton. We tend to give up far too many open three pointers and vs a team like Creighton you can't do that. I get that it's hard to change your defensive style for one game but I'm afraid this is what Miles will have to do if he wants to beat McDermott for once in his life. That, or we need to hope Creighton is cold from deep.

I am more concerned about down low on the defensive end. Patton is starting to play with a lot of confidence on the offensive end, with the way Mo Watson likes to penetrate and dish on their pick and roll game. Patton also hit a couple of elbow jumpers the other night.

Nebraska will have to win the game on the defensive end. There is little chance Nebraska outscores Creighton in an up and down game.
