“I want to finish some stuff,” Barnhart said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. “At the end of the day, I don’t think we’ve finished the job, and I want to finish the deal.”

He won AD of the year this year. If he wants to stay then unfortunately he will continue to be here.

So, he has basically managed to schmooze his fellow athletic directors successfully. Impressive.
Yeah they probably had a good laugh in the cigar lounge a few years ago...

"So, Mitch, you said 'microwave society? That's brilliant!"
"I know, right? Harumph!"
*laughter*

Wouldnt it be cheaper to buy Mitch out and bring in a "football first" AD and let him assess Stoops in 2016 and then he can make a decision.

I think you could have called MB a football first AD when he was first hired. I also think he has been football first over the last few years. Basketball still overshadows football at UK but I think that has more to do with the fans and the media. Regardless, I do also hope that his replacement is a football first AD.

Stoops is here for 2 more years and then he will be evaluated. That was decided back when he was given the extension.

Nobody, including me, is in love with MB but he will get another contract if he wants it. Basketball is once again the best program in the country and most of the other sports have improved. People will argue that Football is the cash cow and has been a failure. That is true as far as wins/losses but the cash cow is still bringing in and will continue to bring in the money with or without success on the field. We may not like it and we can refuse to renew out tickets but it won't change a thing.

There are a lot of sports than I don't care about and you probably don't either but are apparently doing very well. At the end of the day we are a basketball school and ADMB got it very right by bringing in HOFCJVC so he is ok in my book.

UK football has been a train wreck under any AD , Fran Curci cheated and boosters were active for Bryant as well . I'm not absolving Mitch of anything but outside of blatant cheating nobody has done any better . Besides its Mitch's fault no matter what with the football fans . He was lauded by fans for Stoops contract because it showed he was serious and making a commitment .

Now he's stupid for giving such a contract to an unproven coach by the same crowd . When he gets something right it's dismissed as not his choice , in fact your argument gets dismissed as the irrational fans . There's a very strong possibility that the AD after Mitch will not turn UK football into what you want .

Every AD at UK (and other schools) has made poor decisions in hiring coaches. I remember the hiring of Eddie Sutton, who looked like a grand slam hire, and we all know how that ended up. I also remember when Hal Mumme arrived and the excitement he generated around UK fb....and we all know how that ended. MB was trying to honor Rich Brook's request by making JP the coach and that turned out to be one of those choices. At least he had the sense to let him go. The large contract with MS was negotiated because it "looked like" he was being courted by Michigan two years ago. While the contract was not sound, it appears that MB was trying to show good faith in keeping MS from leaving after the recruiting had improved on a major scale. Choices, good and bad, are made every day. Just look at Louisville. Do you seriously believe that Jurich has the character to fire a coach who allowed his assistant to bring underage prostitutes in as an incentive to recruiting? An AD who has integrity would not support that choice. MB does have integrity and should be applauded for that.

Let's see how the next year unfolds with respect to football. If the ship is righted, then MB will look like the wisest man on earth. If the ship continues to sink, I do not believe that he will allow it to go any further and will force the issue.

You can bring in all the football first AD's you want but as long as you have basketball first boosters and behind the scenes donors for basketball first then football first AD's are moot. Boosters pull the strings.

I don't know who you're talking about, but I never thought the contract was a good idea. If you have evidence of people taking both sides of the issue, maybe you'd deign to drop some quotes on us, as proof.

I don't work for you and I'm not digging through thousands of posts to find them but you know I'm right . Besides if I did go get the proof you would immediately dismiss it in some way . If you didn't do that then ok but are you seriously going to speak for the whole board ? You know I'm right

Maybe you're right, who knows, but I see this argument all the time and I have yet to see anybody specifically called out for it. The entire argument is meaningless even if it isn't a canard. I can use the same logic and say that many of the same people who are saying that Stoops should be given more time are also contradicting themselves because they praised the premature decision to dump an armored car into Stoop's back yard.

As is the argument that Mitch needs to be fired because a historically putrid football program hasn't been fixed . When he just got named AD of the year and most sports are doing well , also the primary sport at this school is in top condition . We can discount every argument on this board for that matter , demand proof for every post .

If he is replaced, do you have faith that they will bring in someone better for the football program? I'm not.

I think there is someone already on UK's campus that can handle the job

Just because you have someone in mind, it doesn't mean that they'll get the job. Are you completely confident that the powers that be will hire a football AD? I'm not.......and I'm staring at over 60 yrs of Kentucky history to back up my skepticism.

Contrast the above with.....

http://www.ukathletics.com/page/athletics-director

....which basically includes quips like "AD of the Yr", records being broken, expansion, fund raising, fantastic APR, etc, etc, etc.

If you want to replace a guy that's done that well across the board in UK athletics in order to further the football program you better have a football AD in mind to get the job done........and it better be a proven guy who's done it prior......because there's no way they are going to fire a guy who's brought accolade after accolade to the university.......not to mention scaled Kilimanjaro.....
