Both schools need the "W" a 6-3 seeding gets a much better first round draw than a 5-4 record does.
They are in easily. It is going to take 38 or 39 to get in. They had 36 entering week 8.
MC needs the win or they could get stuck playing someone like Lake Zurich in the first round of the playoffs. They won the Lane, Taft and St. Joe’s games by a combined score of 158-0. But those teams going into Friday night only had 8 wins between them. Lets face it MC’s sophomore team with the varsity kickers and long snapper could have beaten those squads. The win over 2-7 BR is a moral one only.
The game with PC is a good barometer and could be a springboard into the playoffs. But home field aside PC is the favorite in this one.
Absolutely Mt. Carmel has a chance in this game. I think this game is a toss up. PC has definitely played the tougher schedule though. Here are their results against conference (blue) opponents.

I've been following Caravan football for about 30 years now, and last years 17-6 defeat out in new Lenox was the most lackluster performance I've ever seen from a Frank Lenti squad. It was the last game of the season, and they had clearly thrown up the white flag.
That's to take nothing away from providence, who in the past few years have clearly figured out how to stop the MC veer. I just hope they can recall that game as an embarrassment, and use it as motivation?

I thought they would have came out motivated, it was win and in. Instead they emailed their performance in that night. If they win they greatly improve their playoff seeding so let's hope they show up...also their performance against De La Salle ranks up as one of the worst of all time
MC leads the all-time series 12-10. i still say the best 1 was the first 1 in '98 regular season.PC was something like 62-1 heading into that game.
98 game had a huge build up and didn't disappoint. Mc was the superior team and there defense was great that year, but Pc should have won that 1st game. Pc had teddy Bolden wrapped up at his own 5 yard like with about 2 minutes left but let him escape. Mc went 95 yards for the td to tie the game.

Maybe I'm wrong, but in the week preceding the 1st MC-providence game, a some guy on providence had the gaul to say to the sun times "Bring on Mt. Carmel!"

I expect a cooky game tonight with a few turnovers and a few questionable penalties, but overall I think the gately carpet will prove to awkward for the celtics.
