on Wednesday. Spaulding nominated, is he possibly that good? With so many possibilities for us not yet commited this years game will be really interesting. Maybe Briscoe and Newman will get to play together in it.

There's like a thousand nominations every year. The top tier of kids from each state get nominated, whether they're "good" enough or not.

He's not eligible because (I think) he wasn't on a team at the time of the initial selections.

Kentucky's non-McDonald's All-Americans have turned out pretty good, though:

John Wall
Eric Bledsoe
Derek Anderson
Jodie Meeks
Jamal Mashburn
Nerlens Noel
Willie Cauley-Stein
Skal Labissierre

I read that and the first thing I thought was how would Tipton twist this announcement:

"Many of the McDonald All Americans announced today had no interest in attending Kentucky or playing for Calipari. The reasons given range from not wanting to be forced to leave after 1 year or they didn't want to deal with clutter".

If the lists of Cats is ( Wall, etc.) that were not McDonalds AA is correct, then they might as well not put much stock into who is. I have heard it said that anyone Duke is recruiting turns into McDAAs overnight.

FYI, Holman from Owensboro is going to Prep school next year; Hargrave, I think. Will do him a lot of good.

It's correct, but...slightly deceptive, at least with the recent guys. Wall wasn't eligible for the Mickey D game because he was a 5th year player. Noel reclassified too late to qualify for the game (going into 11-12, he was listed as a junior). Labissiere basically doesn't have a HS team because of the shenanigans of his guardian. Their absences had nothing to do with any assessment of their ability. All were (are, in Labissiere's case) top 5 players.

Bledsoe and WCS were late-bloomers, underrated coming out of HS. Based on their ratings, it would have been a stretch to pick them for the game. It just turned out their ratings were way off.

The Mickey D picks are generally OK, but there is almost certainly a history of Duke/UNC/general ACC bias, as a disproportionate amount of lower-rated guys selected for the game have seemed to be the ones who sign with Duke and UNC (or occasionally some other ACC school). That's probably because the selection committee has been chaired for God knows how long by Morgan Wooten, legendary ex-coach of DeMatha HS (Hyatsviile, Md), right in the heart of (or at least what used to be the heart of) ACC territory.

McD's AA is still the most prestigious list, but the Nike Hoops Summit and Jordan Brand rosters are still open. I'm sure Skal will make both, Matthews still has a shot at the Jordan Roster.

I doubt he makes it.

These all-star picks usually come down to who is largely within the top 25 of rivals, scout, and espn rankings.

What i love is how the Louisville news (wave 3) will put a story about a UL kid that only gets nominated for the game, UK has briscoe make it and nothing. Also how about a story on UK's 2 starting NBA allstars, i have yet to see anything about them on local news. I hate having to watch lousville news stations.
