For those wandering heard Elizabethton had said they would play Mitchell early this morning at E Town and at 11:30 backed out saying not enough time to prepare. Obviously something about this Mitchell team made coach Witten apprehensive about playing them. Credit to both Mitchell and Hampton getting this game put together and giving both teams an opportunity to play.

So you are saying a team that has won 31 straight games and back to back state championships that just beat Science Hill 34-14 backed out of playing Mitchell.
The fact people need time to prepare for a non conference game is asinine. Have simple defensive assignments. Line up on the dang ball and play. Make adjustments as you go.
Rumor I heard was Mitchell and Eliz. Could not agree on location and $$$. Both wanted home games and if Eliz traveled to Mitchell they wanted half the gate and half the concession stand $$. Obviously nothing to do with who is afraid to play each other.
Glad that the Hampton game worked out. Win or lose it should be a help to Mitchell down the road.

While Elizabethton is an elite program, Mitchell is no slouch either. I doubt either team was "afraid" of the other. That would be a matchup nightmare for either team, as the two styles are counterintuitive to the other's gameplan, much like Mitchell and East Surry a couple years ago. If that game were to have actually happened, I would say Elizabethton by 2 scores at home, or Elizabethton by 1 score at Mitchell. It's all ifs and buts now, it also could've ended up like Pisgah and Greeneville a few years ago. Mitchell plays Hampton however, and they are hard-nosed, big and physical, much like the Mountaineers. It will be a fun game, possibly the game of the week in 1a ball.
Now I could see Elizabethton not wanting to come Mitchell. I have heard that Elizabethton has told Hampton before that the only way they could play is if it’s always at Elizabethton. This Hampton game will be a much better game. I could see it being a defensive battle. The Hampton QB is fun to watch on Defense. He isn’t scared to come up make a tackle out of the safety position.
That’s exactly what I’m saying. I’m guessing Elizabethton doesn’t see many teams run the type offense that Mitchell does. Also last time these 2 played was a JV game that went multiple OT’s and many of the kids on the varsity rosters now played in that game.

Hey, it's a game. Better than sitting a week out. Hopefully Travise will schedule another one today... The Hampton posters didnt say anything about covid, just said they had too many out. Did they have a lot of injuries, or was it covid related?
They got 2 out injured. One happened in a scrimmage and 1 of the big OL was out last week. I would think if they could play they would. Lunsford isn’t going to run from a game.

My wife is a nurse and we were talking about this the other night. Correct me if I misunderstood her but she was telling me that it was her understanding that even if you were in contact as long as your wearing a mask you don’t have to quarantine this year? Just going off that I told my daughter if she wants to stay eligible even if it’s not required might be a good idea to keep one on at school if they want to be able to play a full volleyball and basketball season. As much as it pained me to say that.

I’m pretty sure neither one of those teams wanted to play y’all on a short week to prepare. I could be wrong but just my opinion.
Elizabethton is a very good team, better than Mitchell I'm 99% sure. However, the only thing they have on Mitchell is team speed (not individual speed), and depth. I would hazard a guess that our lines and linebacker core are about even.
I have heard from a few at Mitchell high who say there are quite a few positive cases there too and one insinuated that the football team was keeping it hush hush. Their words not mine
I would agree with that as well. I do also agree with previous posts about them possibly not wanting to take the chance on a short week to prepare for such a contrasting style of play. Y’all control the ball you have a great shot of beating them.
And to add to that, you are probably right. A team like Mitchell and Mountain Heritage can adjust on short notice a little easier than a team that has a more complicated offensive scheme. Hampton and Coach Lundsford would have faired well tho. They are similar to us.
There is not a shred of truth to that. There might be some positive cases, but none as of yet in the football program. I'm sure it will happen eventually, but no need to spread unfounded rumors just because you are miffed that McDowell doesn't get to play this week.
Listen if you don’t think that’s going on at every school In North Carolina your dense. I guarantee you there are kids being kept home with a “stomach bug” at every school. Jesus Christ let’s not advertise it just let these kids have a season.
