Tough kid mentally and could be a leader. But he uses his tough mentality to blame his teammates when it’s his fault and I don’t see another player on the court besides Paul who has enough balls to call him on his ******** leadership. He NEEDS to stay on the bench. But that’s my opinion, interesting in hearing all of yours.

He needs to stay on the bench because he cannot hit the broad side of a barn when he shoots

Thing is at the end of the first half I thought he was contributing exactly how we need him to. Wasn’t scoring a lot, but was filling up every other column in the stat sheet.

His defense was definitely worse than usual during the first half, though. He got a lot of steals, but he was also gambling a lot on defense to get those steals, which led to several open looks from 3 that went down for UMass. [EDIT: Nope. Memory totally failed me on this. His gambles didn't lead to made threes for UMass.]

He needs to start posting up again if the matchup warrants it. Either that or maybe we should try him as the zone breaking middle guy. When he has an uncontested mid-range shot, I think he has a better shot than some other guys like Mulcahy.

Yes we need to figure out something for him other than flaring balls air all or to no one in sight

McConnell is the polar opposite of mentally tough. He looked like he was going to pass out on the foul line late in the game before he missed the front end of a crucial one and one.
Couldn’t agree more. Plus he looks like he’s on drugs 90% of the time.

Clearly you are both based on that comment.
Woah. Clearly your brain is still stuck in ancient times if you really think I’m both those two. Look at my other threads than come back to me. And also, sounds like you’re a huge attention seeker and ur good at that since I’m responding to you. Great job. Go knights!

He needs to learn how to play college basketball. The bigger issue is there is absolutely nobody to teach him

I think he turns it around. He needs to ball out on D and rebounding and post up smaller guards. His confidence is for poop right now.

He's a good utility player, but he's trying to do too much. Against UMass his perimeter defense suffered when he started focusing on getting steals - going for the homerun play and giving up a bunch of points to players who were hot from outside. [EDIT: Nope. Rewatched the game, and none of their made threes were because McConnell gambled on steals.]

He takes care of the ball, he gets rebounds, he scraps... but his offense is pretty bad, and has been for a while before this season. He needs to stop trying to do everything, and focus on hitting 5 footers and layups. Maybe seeing the ball go through the hoop can get some confidence back, and he can be consistent out to 10-15 feet again.

Not expecting a ton from him this year.

Maybe Pikiell is waiting for B1G league play to unleash our talent laden team on the country. Calhoun he is not. I still believe Hurley with all who criticize his attitude and his family would have been a much ch better choice. Number 1 as a recruiter …Number 2 as a motivator of his players. Me thinks Senor Hobbs needs to have a pep talk with SP and soon. That 100 mil practice facility evidently is not being used to it’s fullest.

Nah, internet anonymity has given pretty much everyone a free pass to be aholes.

Feel free, it's your right to be an ahole but it doesn't get lost on a lot of people that what you are saying makes you look like a dick.

Love how people try to justify their comments with "you are just taking it all too seriously"

Point is they didn't lose because of McConnell on Saturday.
It is not relative… we didn’t WIN… what world do you live in ? Still on the coach and his staff. We could have and should have gotten a victory in Mass. Our D is sorely lacking and that is all based upon EFFORT.

Strange time to mock McConnell after he finally had a good game. He had 6 points on 43% shooting, 9 assists, 6 steals, and 6 boards with only 1 TO.

A great first half but subpar 2nd where he played almost the entire half and the team lost a 15 point lead

Two good games in a row for McConnel and his shots finally falling last night is a great sign for this team if it is going to have any chance to dig out of the deep hole they've dug in the early season.

Last two games stats:

33.5 min/g, 11.0 ppg (8/14 FG, 1/2 3P, 5/10 FT), 6.0 RB (1.5 ORB, 4.5 DRB), 5.5 Ast, 3.5 Stl, 1.5 tov, 2.0 pf

Hopefully we can just throw the first 5 games out and move forward from here.

Mac has great wing span which is not a stat. He eats up space gracefully. Rough shooter but def worth his minutes.

McConnell is not a guard and should be playing the 3 position. He nees to be closer to the basket to be more effective on offense.
