I could see both sides of this issue very easily. Seems like an unfortunate situation for all involved. And it also seems that, if this thing went the distance, and the coach got dismissed for this------ the headline could also eventually show up as, "School District 'Cancels' Baseball Coach for Enforcing Team Rules." However, if it were me, I feel that my response would be like John Wooden when Bill Walton refused to cut his hair for UCLA.
"Bill, I completely understand you wanting to stick with your principles and not wanting to cut your hair. That is an admirable quality to have in a person these days...........we're going to miss you."

Mullet is pretty common in baseball these days - and he has a nice one.

We had to shave in college - but i let my stuff grow on a .400 month or two hot streak and coaches didnt say a thing.

Got a filthy corona mullet going right now - I stand w/the Meade Co Mullets

So stupid. With all the things going on today and all the things kids have to deal with, there are alot more pressing concerns than long hair especially considering barber shops etc were shut down for a long time.

I'd be fine with it if they had the same rules for the softball team but I bet they don't.

The world has much more to worry about than this kids hair. Ridiculous. I will say this though, that rule was definitely implemented after I played or they would have had to kick the whole team out. Shew mullets ruled back in the day. I was proud of my locks.

Until a few yrs ago I had waist length hair......I kept it tied up........I caught a lot of **** over my hair.........I was living on a military base when I got it cut off.........I had a pilot give up his spot for me to get my hair cut......normally it is officers, then everyone else on base and then civilians when it come to the line in the military barbershop.......there was applause when I got out of that chair with a #1 haircut..........I donated it to the Little Princess Trust..........I have never figured out the big deal with hair style/length........to each their own......

My son started working on his mullet a few months ago, it's coming in nicely. He's doing track and field right now so the starter mullet is looking good as he's running the 200 meter. By the time football rolls around, he should have a good Bosworth/Gastineau look.

What kind of parent makes a deal out of this to begin with?!?! Just amazing.

Unfortunately, it is the rule, regardless of how stupid it is and it is VERY stupid.

It's baseball. If you can keep your hat on your head, you should be able to have any hairstyle you want.

I would've had problem if the school system made the rule. But it was the baseball coach.

Lot of coaches have rules like that. Not for being against long hair (though probably), but for team building bs. Dress codes and cheers and all sorts of conforming rituals. I wish coaches didn't have rules against this, because this one affects a person away from the team. But I'm not going to get pretend to care either.

I remember when one of my sons was a senior he and his teammates all got buzz cuts at the start of basketball practice. Is there really a difference

Damn shame people get so worked up over just nothing. They have to reverse this decision I would think esp now with the coverage it’s received.

As an aside—I suppose I’m truly getting older bc the more sports I watch the more I realize that mullets and short shorts are evidently trending back into style. Crazy how things cycle I guess. Wont catch me sporting a mullet, tho I did rock one with spiked hair back in ‘87.

Yes, a mullet let's you know you're dealing with a nasty, dumb, inbred redneck. Buzz cuts only indicate the team is a bunch of Neo-Nazis.....Gruppenfuhrer Kybluedude.

The main downfall of my sports career was my teammates haircut. Just couldn't concentrate...

Also I have no athletic ability and was terrible at every sport but golf. And with golf I suck but make a par occasionally.

If the rule was in place beforehand and the players knew the rule then I am fine with it. If there wasn't a rule in place then I'm with the players. It's probably no different than when our basketball players all had clean cut hair when they got here. It's about uniformity and being a team and not individuals. We started worrying about the individual more (players first) and now we have a bunch of individuals instead of a team.

When I was in ROTC and the Air Force I knew I had to cut my hair a specific way to be a part of them. Many regular jobs won't hire you if you don't look a certain way as well. That's just how life is. Either follow the rules or don't be a part of it. Of course all you have to do anymore is complain about something you don't like and they are forced to change it.

I see and agree with both sides. I hadnwild hair when I was a kid. But if the organization has rules, you abide by them.
