I'm officially old now. Grew up watching Meadowlark and Curly Neal. He'll always be the master of the half-court hook shot.

A little bit before my time, but during the days before black players were allowed into the NBA, the Globetrotters played the Minneapolis Lakers of the NBA (with George Mikan) straight up on a few occasions and even won a couple of times.

He was great. Got to play against him when I was 10-11. He brought his team, after he split with theGlobetrotters, to Paducah. They performed at our school and my mom just happened to be a teacher there so when they were selecting kids to play with them, I was one of the lucky ones.

Funny story about their owner Abe Sapperstein, he and a lot of guys felt like the African American guys could not play BB at the time it was more a Jewish involved sport, he did not think Black players could compete with NY city players.

I read that and thought of the SNL skit of Paul Simon playing BB against Spencer Haywood, I think. Just funny at one time it was a Jewish sport instead of what is now predominantly African American.
