Good question, I'm right there with you.I am not to far from having to apply. What policies do most people get. Advantages or disadvantages ? Things to do or not to do? Seems very confusing.
Many people mistakenly believe that Medicare is free healthcare for the elderly. It is not free. It costs my wife and I about $250 a month. Since it is deducted from one's SS check people seem unaware they re paying for it. Any gap plan (a necessity) may even double that.
Medicare Advantage HMO does have out of network benefits. If you have an emergency and if you can't find a doctor in your network to cover certain needs, you can get a waiver. Also, some Advantage plans are HMO with no out of network benefits.
Every time I hear someone in my office tell someone they have a one time $183 deductible, I just cringe. I learned years ago when I was signing my uncle up on a Plan G and I told him he would have to meet the yearly deductible of $140 (at that time) before his plan would pick up. He said, "well, I'll just pay that up front the first of the year and not have to worry about it". I replied, "No, no, don't do that because if you only go to the doctor a couple times a year you won't meet it and you would be paying for nothing".Most people buy a Medicare Supplement. (Covers what part A & B Medicare doesnt) Plan G is the most popular today. You pay a one time deductible $183 plus monthly payment approx $110 and then you have 100% covetage. Having Medicare + medigap gives you 100% coverage except prescription medication. You will have to get a part D plan to cover that. If the original poster needs a helping hand, msg me and I can write you a policy that best fits your needs. Part B Medicare premium is approx $183/month and a medigap part G policy will be $108-$120/month depending on insurance company.
I only suggest Medicare Advantage or the cheaper med supps with less benefits ONLY when some truly cannot afford the better plan.I’m sure Chuck knows what plan but I was told the F plan is the best supplement and may be phased out soon. I had a co worker - never ever sick- take the K plan because it was cheaper. 3 months later he was deathly sick and had big copayments.
The biggest downside to Medicare Advantage is you can only use a local PP network so if you spend any time away from home you don't have coverage. I have a Medigap plan for $182/mo that covers about everything that Medicare does not. I can use it anywhere and I don't need referrals.
Sounds fishy to me. Either you are old or ripping off decent Americans who actually need it.
Plan F has the best coverage, but it doesn't mean it's the best plan. I know that sounds dubious, but basically all Plan F pays that Plan G doesn't is the Part B deductible and if you do the math, the difference in the cost the Plan F premium per year can be more than what the Part B premium is. This is really a moot point since new Plan F sales will be halted when the Plan F is phased out.I’m sure Chuck knows what plan but I was told the F plan is the best supplement and may be phased out soon. And you can also get a PPO. I have a Humana PPO plan with zero premium. It includes prescription drug coverage. It has a $15.00 copay for primary care physicians and $50 for specialists.Medicare Advantage HMO does have out of network benefits. My only premium expense for medical coverage is paying for Medicare which is deducted from my social security check.
But to be honest I wish we did not have social security or medicare as I would be miles ahead if I had been allowed to invest that money during my working career. Thankfully I have a nice little nest egg that will leave a lot to my family after I am long gone from this eart.
There is no one company that is right for everyone. It depends on where you live because prices are different in different zip codes.I sold this stuff for 4 months. It’s crazy how cut throat this market was and how much lying is done.
Stay away from AARP and Omaha plans as they have crazy rate increase.
That F plan is more expensive out of pocket but it covers everything too so between Medicare and plan F your covered.
But you may not need that and you can change plans a few years in.
I’d contact Physicians Mutual honestly.
I understand that, but way too many people would have never invested that money and then our health care system would be in worse shape than it is today.

All health insurance has both disadvantages and advantages. Choose the best health plan for you that can cover the medical services you usually need.
