I always wanted to like JQ, and even still think it'd be cool if he came to UK, but he just had ACL surgery 5 days ago. Is he even going to be ready to go this calendar year?
This.

If I’m Pope I use the ACL and the odds he gets brought along slowly and isn’t 90-100% until conference play as a bargaining chip.

If he’s willing to come without starter minutes guaranteed and for 1.5 then go for it. But I’m not paying 3m for a “maybe will be healthy and be what he was pre injury”

The question I have is… Why does Pope continue to “entertain” prospects that he knows damn well UK/ Mitch/ et al will not pay the necessary $$$ to obtain their services?

Eventually, the “optics” are to become a negative recruiting tool, if it hasn’t already, and hurt his/ UK’s reputation.

Can’t imagine us putting an injury condition on Magoon without a similar assurance on JQ.
I imagine this is a bit of nothing.

Not worth the chemistry disruption

What chemistry disruption ? There will be 8/9 new guys on the team, LOL. People screaming for defense, he would be one of the best possible additions. As a freshman he averaged 2.6 blocks per game, and the 1.4 steals is nice. Averaging 4 stocks is pretty rare.
He would be a walking double / double. 9.4 ppg /8 rpg / 1.5 assist / 1.4 steals. ACL's are pretty common and MOST players come back just fine. Now I would not pay $3 million, but he would be a very valuable addition. If we turned away players who suffered a ACL injury before, the pickings would be quite a bit slimmer.

If the price is not high, it is worth investigating

But I think the price will be too high

If he can recover, he will be game changer for us

The blocker and rebounder we need (do not think he will make progress in offensive game much even if he recovers well as he will not practice in six months)

Just the price, the price will be very high

So Mgbako and now Jayden (due to the injury) man we are hitting rock bottom. If Pope was offering Magoon a portion of his NIL due to the fear of injuries what is he going to be offering Jayden.

His dad expects him to be ready by September. But what athlete has had a full ACL recovery within 6 months? (other than Derek Anderson). I know it's a common injury now but seems like the timeframe is more 9 months to a year.

He could solve a lot of problems (rim-protector, rebounder) but it's a huge gamble. I doubt this dude is going to be very motivated to return to the court with the NBA in his future. If you could get him with an incentive-loaded NIL deal then OK. Doubt he'd go for that though.

Imo no way you pay this kid anything. He wont be ready till late and his camp is the very kind that will sit him all season while taking your money.

At very best he costs us a fortune and plays half a year; just to go in the portal again for even more.

Imo the only positive out of this is it seems we finally pulled the ament money back and are putting that to use now instead of waiting on the ament ship that isnt coming in.

I tell you that was very impressive highlights!! He had at great career at UK!! NIL well spent!!
Great practice career. He put the practice facilities to great use. If you were one of the fortunate ones that got to the games early you would've been able to see his impressive warm up skills too!

Now that Cal is gone this had to be one of the worse things Cal did!! He should have told them either sharpe plays or look for someone else to help with your game!!!

I don't care what anyone thinks NO PLAYER is worth a MIllion a year. This is not what NIL was supposed to be like. Sorry if you don' agree.
Why is a million the bar you set? Because that seems like a ton of money to you? News flash 1million is nothing in college sports and never has been. Even before they could get paid billions are flowing through college athletics.
