Now that Cal is gone this had to be one of the worse things Cal did!! He should have told them either sharpe plays or look for someone else to help with your game!!!
That's the thing about Cal he didn't give a crap he was all about that kind of thing.... He didn't give 2 craps about UK and look how many other players sit out for most of a season like Sharpe did while he was here. Good thing is he's in the rear view mirror now thank the heavens above. Just hope that Pope can put together a more talented roster this coming year a better one than he had this past year.

The guy is definitely legit. Going to see alot of fake insiders stealing his info. Last year it was some other random account definitely in the know that openly clowned the usual fake uk insiders.

He will not go to Portal again, he will go to nba draft next year

Good point. I should've added that as the probability. Either way its paying a fortune and at best getting half a season but more likely getting nothing.

I agree just thought injuries decimated our team. When our guys were well we hung good with most teams. Hope we do upgrade!!

Who knows the market but if someone pays 3M for a kid coming off a ACL and without knowing how the kid will react once he is cleared is a gambler. That goes poorly it could have a negative impact in raising future money.

There is a number where this makes a ton of sense but it isn’t north of a million.

Why is a million the bar you set? Because that seems like a ton of money to you? News flash 1million is nothing in college sports and never has been. Even before they could get paid billions are flowing through college athletics.
i did not set it at 1 million shoot a 1/2 million is to much just to play one season. They are getting a free education aren't they ? Need contracts instead of this wild west thing.

Yeah, no. If I'm Pope I say "weren't you the kid who wanted to play for Calipari? I've got his number if you'd like it"

Why do you think a free semester in school is enough? Why would you not want a free market to set what someone is worth?
I just can't imagine if my job told me a certain number was high enough because that just how they feel and not using fair market value.

In theory a center like him would solve a lot of issues. If it wasnt for the acl it would be a no brainer. He’s not gonna be back till December or so but if you think he can be the final piece to a contender you do it.

His dad expects him to be ready by September. But what athlete has had a full ACL recovery within 6 months? (other than Derek Anderson). I know it's a common injury now but seems like the timeframe is more 9 months to a year.

He could solve a lot of problems (rim-protector, rebounder) but it's a huge gamble. I doubt this dude is going to be very motivated to return to the court with the NBA in his future. If you could get him with an incentive-loaded NIL deal then OK. Doubt he'd go for that though.
Even if he is back in 6 months, that means he’s back practicing most likely. I don’t see him being in game shape in 6 months. Hell we have had players with a tweaked calf muscle miss more time than that.

That was the final straw for me w/ Cal. I was probably a little later to the table than a lot of folks

Next up for NIL: Pay tied to performance/incentives?

I always wanted to like JQ, and even still think it'd be cool if he came to UK, but he just had ACL surgery 5 days ago. Is he even going to be ready to go this calendar year?
Earlier stuff I read was that he is scheduled to be ready for contact by September which would make him ready for the season, but we all know how these type things go. plus he'd miss all the summer workouts and practices with the team while rehabbing.

I understand that but in the meantime our guys are getting picked off. Making me nervous dragging around while it seems everyone else is getting on it.
What do you mean "our guys" just because we contact them doesn't make them "ours". Most of the guys we are after are contacted by dozens of schools.

I don't care what anyone thinks NO PLAYER is worth a MIllion a year. This is not what NIL was supposed to be like. Sorry if you don' agree.
may not have been what it was supposed to be, but that is what it has turned into..........free agency

It was also Said that coach is meeting with player agents as much as some of the players we have contacted. Makes sense because you will be seeing those guys every year might as well build a relationship early.

Most of the better players we have contacted have or are going elsewhere. Have to believe that several of those top guys we would have loved to had. The best players are getting dwindled down on a daily basis. If we all the sudden lost Alvaro, Pierre and Yates the highly skilled guys would be that much more less. Guess I should have said a ton of the better players are getting picked up on a daily basis.

Would you like it if you income was based on what someone THOUGHT you should be paid ? Free education, LOL. 1970's called, they want their 4 year commitments back.

Amen brother. Particularly for a high school kid. It is utter madness. I just don't believe the figures being thrown out for NIL. I have not seen or heard of anyone that is actually involved with it stating ridiculous amounts like those being stated.

I agree with this but we are however going back.

I would have been fine with the NCAA setting a hard cap/stipend divided equally amongst active players. Same for the conferences. Say it’s 10% of TV deals earmarked for players…..then just divide and distribute….. no extra outside money other than commercials/advertising, autographs, and jersey sales.

If that wasn’t enough on top of a 50k-100k education opportunity then tell them to go overseas and play. The fanbase would have supported the universities no matter if the top 25 players from each class went to the G-League

I don’t mind people being paid their worth however this has created a real **** storm. You want paid, fine but you can only transfer every 3 years. That’ll stop all this free agency crap.

I will never understand this take. Pope put together a roster this past season that was capable of winning a title. Take the 2nd and 3rd best shooters off Houston and/or Florida and limit their respective PG and PF with nagging injury and neither one makes the S16.

dumb if we sign this dude, hes out until at least like December, only way I would take this guy is if there is a contract stating he would be here all of this coming season + next season and he cant get out of it.
