question-I thought portal window was closed (except for those who have graduated college-which is obviously not the case here as Mega just started college). Perhaps I am wrong. When is portal window open for Mega?

Late November, early December best I can tell.

He has not stated specifically the reason, but it appears to be one of a couple things, that either he realizes he won’t be able to compete for playing time soon with the current tight end group, or that he has already been asked to switch positions.

Sort of classic case of player who isn’t that into football but knows it’s his meal ticket. Go somewhere a bit easier to play and do well knowing the pros will likely never happen.

yes, if you are going to leave you do it in the spring window. he is not going to see a field again till next spring earliest. really strange he waited this long. the coaches liked him at so many positions seems like this would be a great place for him.

Which tells me this position transition was fully discussed. Would think his parents would have the attitude “give it a chance and see, then re-examine in the spring”. As you say, no field experience until spring and that can’t help his situation either.

Maybe the problem for the kid was that the coaches liked him at so many positions instead of any one position such that he didn’t see where he really fit.

Likely reasons Mega flew the coop:
Home sick
Got dumped
Didn't like playing school
Realized he wasn't one of the top 75 players on the roster
Couldn't believe how serious the PSU Coaches are about a game
Decided he would rather be a jockey or a rock star
Getting in top physical condition is for losers
