I am retired ARMY but this day is to remember the fallen. One of the fallen is Johnny Lee of Four Oaks, NC. He was killed by friendly fire ,a short artillery round, in Vietnam in 1966 at the age of 19. He was a friend and still missed. Please remember him and all like him today.

I consider myself a part of the lucky ones for still being on this side of the dirt while serving my great country. On this day, it still hurts after almost 10 years later to know I lost one of my best friends Kenneth Westbrook in an ambush in Afghanistan in 09.
We arrived at Bravo Company 1/28 Infantry Regiment as brand new Drill Sergeants, fresh out of school in March 97. We ended up as Drill instructors in the same platoon for almost 3 years. Attended his brothers funeral, who was killed 4 years earlier in Iraq in 05. This day is for him and the many other service members who paid the ultimate price for doing what they believed in. Serving this great country of ours, which at times can be taken for granted. God bless them all.

I am grateful that you and many more did come home. You are correct. This day is for Kenneth Westbrook and the many thousands who gave the lives and prosperity for us. OFC

Is it nitpicking to point out that today is not a day to give thanks to those who have served? It is a day to remember those who have fallen, giving the ultimate sacrifice to their nation. Some willfully, some by the decision of their government. But all to be remembered and honored.
No its not. You're correct but many times Veterans day and Memorial day kind of get mixed up or blended together a lot of times. It's truly a day to remember those who served and lost their lives doing so. The lost their lives while serving is always the part mixed up on this day. Not a day to talk about your service time, but to reflect on the ones who paid with their lives and their families.

It’s not nitpicking. It’s correct. Today is about remembering those that made the ultimate sacrifice.
