Mendenhall in Ames - Arnold and Kueter

Got to watch Arnold and Kueter wrestle up close for the first time yesterday at Mendenhall. There were some really good wrestlers at Ames yesterday, both Iowa and ISU commits. You see some kids and think that kid's pretty good, or he's a big thick kid. Then you see guys like Gabe and Kueter and are reminded there are special levels of talent. In the semis, Gabe toyed with an Ankeny wrestler, who looked bigger/stronger than Arnold, TF him in 5:02. It was impressive.

Then, there's Kueter. Again, I've never seen him wrestle...he's a nasty brute. His semi match was held in the green turf area at Ames HS that has a large track balcony around one half that was full of people, then the area around his mat was full of watchers as well. He was wrestling Christensen from Ballard, a soph with a good record (that's all I know about him). Christensen went after Kueter and was not backing down. That seemed to piss off Kueter and it was a series of takedowns, pushing off Christensen's head while letting him up, another takedown, before he finally put him out of his misery and pinned him. It was nearly silent during the match...spectators seemed to realize they were witnessing a rare force.

Ross from Fort Dodge is impressive as well. A freshman, he won the 195 bracket, beating the other Christensen kid from Ballard in the finals 7-2.

Also worth mentioning Kueter just got back from one week in Florida practicing and playing in the Under Armour All-America Game with some of the best football recruits in the nation.

I was sitting with Ben's family so was able to shake hands with him & Gabe & gave them both a loud "go hawks". His aunt said she had just picked him up at the airport Friday so he was super tired. I saw him yawning quite a bit but when it came time to wrestle you couldn't tell. Him & Gabe are both unbelievable talents & I agree with backinblack about Ross from Fort Dodge. That kid could be on the same course as Kueter with how great he looks as a freshman. I hope the staff can reel in him & the younger Ayala. Anyone know if we're looking at Seaton from Iowa city high? He's pretty impressive too.
Blair can we start getting some more in depth wrestling recruiting info/ news?

What is the story with Ross' recruitment? I would assume he grows into at least a future 220 as he's 6'3" and has the frame to put on a lot of muscle. Looks like his spine is bent from having to bend over so low to match the (lack of) height of his opponents

I noticed that too not sure what's up with his back. Hope we can start getting some solid wrestling recruiting coverage here

Dru Ayala is probably walk on type level low investment level at this point. He won't be targeted as a future starter. The Seaton kid probably the same. Ross is a blue chip.

Not sure I've ever seen that before. Is that legal without having your legs in a figure 4? Or is that just applicable when locking around the head/neck area? Just asking. Either way, that stick is awesome!!

Missed it the first time, but it made me chuckle seeing the kid who got pinned laughing while shaking hands
