did not see a thread, so I thought I would throw this up on the board and see if anyone responds....

So, I don't really follow NCAA Hoops, but looking at the first round I picked up what I thought were a couple of potential upsets.

East:
I have #11 Providence over #6 Kentucky
I have #10 USC over #7 Michigan State

MidWest
I have #9 Auburn over #8 Iowa (becuase I hate Iowa)
I have #10 Penn State over #7 aTm (because I love Penn State)

West:
I have #9 Illinois over #8 Arkansas
I have #12 VCU over #5 St. Mary's

South:
No upsets

Any thoughts on this? Any other upsets you guys can think of?

Charleston can put the ball in basket and has some size. They remind me of those Wichita state teams from a few years back.

Andy Kratz has Penn State in his elite 8.

not that there is any easy routes here, but nobody did Penn State any favors with our draw. we will need to beat the #2 in the SEC, and then get by possibly the best in the Big 12 to the to S16 before we think of 8. we are playing a lot better than most thought possible.

I wonder where we would have been seeded if we hit the 3 pointer at the end of Purdue, and won the BIG. Still a #10?

No. We’d be a 12.

Hey @psuro and @Tom McAndrew maybe best to change the subject line to “Official MBB NCAA Tournament Thread” or something such.

If you wanna try deeper down the seed line, I really like Kent State to not only beat Indiana but to get to the Sweet 16. Their best player is Sincere Carry (he does dribble legally) and they play an up-tempo brand that gave Gonzaga fits in the Kennel back in December. Indiana is a classic case of a team you don't know what you're getting on a nightly basis and just lost to PSU, who has similar traits to Kent State.

For those who point out Charleston, I think that's a decent selection. My team played them 3 times this year and really should have beaten them all 3 times (lost in OT first time, blew 10-pt 2nd half lead in 2nd game, was up 1 with 1:30 left in 3rd game) and we definitely aren't SDSU's caliber. I've watched a lot of the Aztecs, including one game in person, and they will definitely bang Charleston around but they have a tendency to go into offensive droughts. That's something that Charleston can take advantage of with their 9-deep rotation.

The only other +7 or more seed upset that I picked was VCU over St. Mary's. I think Rhoades will set up a swarming defense to neutralize SMC's freshman guard and he'll try to duplicate how Gonzaga attacked SMC in the WCC final.
