No one manages a thread for the Metro Suburban like our pal Ignazio does for “THE Chicago Catholic League” or ESCCfan does for the ESCC. We even have a regular beat reporter (Wilmatucky) for the Interstate 8 conference. With the ICCP dynasty in full swing and addition of stalwarts Aurora Christian, Bishop McNamara and St. Francis to catapult competitive reputation of the Metro, the conference deserves some weekly chatter.

Disclaimer – While I have historical experience going back 10 years with the Suburban Christian Conference (SCC) teams, my knowledge of the public schools in the Metro is lacking. My thin reporting on Fenton, Elmwood Park, R-B and Ridgebrook comes from a lack of exposure to those schools.

AC (2-0) @ ACC (1-1)

AC contained Bronzeville 34-14. The Eagles starting defense which returns 9 starters shut down dual-threat QB Jeremiah Webb (New Mexico commit) with 3 INT and 0 TD. An improved ACC squad will grind but fall short of an AC team determined to win a class 1A state title. I don’t think the score will be close but the schools are! (6/10 mile door to door from each other – no team bus needed).

[2018] Aurora Christian (Aurora, IL) 34, [2018] Aurora Central Catholic (Aurora, IL) 19
CatBox pick 41-13.

IC (2-0) @ Wheaton Academy (2-0)

Wheaton stuffed St. Ed’s at home 38-6 last week. Balanced Warrior run/pass scheme led by veteran QB Ben Thorson but likely no match for a loaded IC squad looking to 3-peat. Thorson’s confidence was quoted in the Daily Herald on 8-31, “We’re ready to beat IC”. Nice locker room material for an IC team that doesn’t need it. Buckle your chin strap, Ben.

[2018] Immaculate Conception (Elmhurst, IL) 44, [2018] Wheaton Academy (West Chicago, IL) 6
CatBox pick 38-13.

Riverside-Brookfield (1-1) @ Bmac (2-0)

R-B coming off a 35-7 loss to Wauconda. A young Bulldog squad will struggle on the road vs. an improved Mac with 10 returning on defense, 8 returning on offense. Irish in control at home over Arby's.

[2018] Bishop McNamara (Kankakee, IL) 42, [2018] Riverside-Brookfield (Riverside, IL) 7
CatBox pick 35-14.

SF (2-0) @ Fenton (1-1)

Sparta will rise to 3-0. Fenton should be no match for a Francis program on the rise.

[2018] St. Francis (Wheaton, IL) 31, [2018] Fenton (Bensenville, IL) 27
CatBox pick 27-17.

Ed’s (0-2) @ Hope (1-1)

The Green Wave appears to be struggling. Take Hope.

[2018] Chicago Hope Academy (Chicago, IL) 40, [2018] St. Edward (Elgin, IL) 17
CatBox pick 48-13

Ridgebrook (2-0) @ Elmwood Park (2-0)

Don’t let the perfect records fool you. Neither team has been tested yet. Flip a coin. I’ll take Ridgewood. Are there any Edgy posters who know anything about these teams?

[2018] Ridgewood (Norridge, IL) 20, [2018] Elmwood Park (IL) 12
CatBox pick 22-20.

Guerin (2-0) @ Chicago Christian (2-0)

This should be a good contest! Sentimental favorite is Guerin because “GuerinFan” is an avid Edgy poster. When is the last time Guerin got off to a 3-0 start?

[2018] Chicago Christian (Palos Heights, IL) 42, [2018] Guerin College Prep (River Grove, IL) 20
CatBox pick and “Feeto Upset Special” nomination – Guerin Prep over Chicago Christian 28-27.

The answer is never. A few 2-0 starts, but never a 3rd straight win to start a year. However, we only have been a program since 2004 (my senior year).

I'll take a stab at this...

Aurora Christian over Aurora Central Catholic (Hard to pick against ACC since one of their assistants coached with me at Guerin)

Immaculate Conception over Wheaton Academy (The Saunders twins played AAU Hoops with a few of my Celestine kids, plus I coached Kyle Franklin's brother Keith at Guerin)

Bishop McNamara over Riverside-Brookfield (Hated the drive to Kankakee...we did beat them my junior year)

St.Francis over Fenton (Two cool stories with these programs. 1st when I was coaching at Guerin our bus broke down. We had to get the team off the bus and walk the last mile down Roosevelt Rd to St. Francis. I have pics to prove it. Second, I had my first career rushing attempt my senior year @ Fenton. I was quote "tackled by a herd of Bison")

Hope Academy over St. Edward (I really like what Eds had going for a few years, but can never forgive them for Guerin's Homecoming in 2014. We were giving St. Eds all they could handle, but our starting QB Tyler Flynn breaks his collarbone, and we fall apart. That year could have been a playoff season. Ask @MWittman he was there)

Ridgewood over Elmwood Park (I played with current Ridgewood HC Don Gelsomino and played for his dad when I was a soph. My parents live in EP, I know a few of the players, and @Catch--22 's brother in law led the mighty Tigers to the playoffs, which was a small miracle! Gotta go with Donny G's Rebs)

Guerin over Chicago Christian (I'll always be loyal to the school, loyal to Tony Pec, and I want the kids to be successful. I think we can get it done.)

ACC- not sold on AC yet due to their scheduling Urban Preps the first two games
IC- JCA game sold me.
Fenton- tight game here but this will tell us if SF is really better. Always was a fan of SFs program.
Eds- no reason. Ed’s appears way down though.
EP- no idea on this one.
Guerin- only because I work with two holy cross alums!
