Mexican restaurants on Cinco de Mayo

Does anybody go to a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo?

I have tried a couple different ones over the years, but I won't ever again. The restaurants typically have a very limited menu, the servers are stressed out and overworked, and some people might feel like they need to hurry and eat so somebody else can take a seat.

Personally, I would rather just go the next day (or literally any other time). They have their full menu again, higher quality service, and the same liquor.

That is food Mexicans think Americans like and just in case they don't they pour that nasty white cheese all over it, not Mexican food. Find one of the small Mexican grocery stores that serve food, that's your best bet in Kentucky.

In Elizabethtown go to the one by The Peddlers Mall, order a torta with no beans and 2 barbacua tacos. They'll bring you two bottles, a red one and a green one. Put both on food and enjoy.

I have always liked Lord Z and thought he made excellent takes; we were truly lucky to have him on this board.

Until this post anyway.

Mexican food at Chi Chi's or El Chi Chi's or South of the Chi Chi's is Mexican food. How do I know? Cause whenever I ask a real Mexican what Mexican food is, he's like, "you know, it's tacos and salsa and tortas, but it's different." And then I ask him what's different and he shrugs his shoulders.

-my brothers woman is making green pisole w/ chicken tonight for dinner for dad/bro and me. Nothing to do with 5th of may.

-best mexican food (not counting my brother's house) is in the back of a super mercado, z is correct.

-also, sidral mundet>>>jarritos.

CdM is much bigger here than in Mexico.

Local Mex family restaurant used to have a mariachi singer on CdM, and some other times, but he got too old.

I’ll tell ya I really like CasAmigos tequila for a more “major brand”. I got some smoky pineapple tequila mix from William Sonoma as a white elephant gift this Xmas (which is also by Cas Amigos) and it seems tonight’s the night. VIVA LA MEHICO!!

El Jimador, triple sec, marg mix, splash of oj, fresh lime, salt, rocks...

I'm not that particular on the tequila for a marg except it has to be 100% agave.

Living around Bardstown, I go to Elizabethtown often. That's a good restaurant. For more Americanized stuff, El Tapatio is pretty good. I like it all. Authentic and otherwise. My wife is from Honduras, so I get real South American food all the time.

It helps greatly to be friends with key people at your favorite local Mexican joint. Puerto Vallarta here in Bowling Green, I just tell my buddy what I want and what ingredients (he knows I do not like the American Mexican food). Eff a "menu'. He also always brings me a double shot of Grey Goose (I have never had tequila in my life, including Margaritis) on the house at the end of my meal, along with a NICE discount. Last night my bill was $91.44, My ole buddy Fernando put a big X across the ticket, writes $65.00 on the ticket. The owner (who owns 28 other restaurants in 4 states, is a personal friend of mine, I have sold / financed over 60 vehicles for him, family, his managers, and employees. Fernando gave me one of those really nice Budweiser tap dispenser things they bring to your table. It holds 128 ounces of beer. But they know if they need something with their vehicle, I will take care of them. Free oil change, you got it. Detail ? No problem.
Funny story, Eric who is the son of one of the owners bet my middle son that if he ate a ghost pepper, he would take care of our whole ticket. I told him, dude, drinks included ? Well, my son did it, the tab for the 4 of us was over $120. He also brought me out some Cow tongue to try. That **** was very good, never had it before. And it is not on the menu, it was what he cooked for himself that night. Back before BG sold beer on Sunday, I called Eric or Fernando several times and borrowed a 12 pack from them. Hell I make myself at home, before i leave, i go in the kitchen, get a styrofoam cup, and pour me a draft beer to go.

Used to go to a local place where I knew the management. Too much of a hassle now as they are all so crowded on the 5th. Went today instead. Everybody looked really really tired

Also used to be great specials on the day, but have no idea if they still offer or need to offer them

I've liked the central and south american cuisine I've had over the years. Brazilian, Venezuelan, Argentinian... there's really only one cuisine I'm appalled by and that is French- aside from french toast, french fries, etc

I had some arepas in NYC that were awesome
