Miami/A&M: Is this what folks are fighting for with CFP expansion?

Watching this game, it's laughable to consider that these teams are "playing for the title". And people want to lower the bar even further?

It's our only chance of making the playoffs. Look what happened to our 11-2 teams. How did we not make it to a major bowl with any one of those teams?
I agree.

Anyone who has ever thought and/or thinks we would ever win the football national championship, was/is dreaming. Just making the playoffs though, would be way more meaningful, at least to me, than winning the Snoop Dog bowl game or any other bowl game. But, that's me.

And think about this: how often do you see players opting out of bowl games? Plenty. Now compare that to how often you see players opting out of playoff games. Playoff games are much more meaningful to players, as well as to MOST fans, than some crappy bowl. If we are able to make the playoffs, that would help our recruiting. I am all for expanding to 16 so that there are no more byes; stop at 16. Those opposing going to 16 will be just as successful as standing on railroad tracks trying to stop a speeding locomotive.

Ignominious, disgraceful defeat by A&M. Elko used up every bit of good will he had accrued in Aggieland with this putrid performance today.

My take: Canes defense was incredible, with the exception of one big play and the QB scrambles, Canes held them in check for almost the whole game. The last drive for TAMU, was pretty decent, but the Goal Line stand for Miami was a defensive highlight film.
1st down - UM DB forces WR to run his route out of the end zone. 2nd down: UM defender forces ball out of WR hands at the 5. 3rd down; UM DB knocks the ball out of the WR at the goal line. 4th - INT. EPIC

So because this game was bad we shouldn’t go to 16 to mitigate the two lower teams that are in because the ACC couldn’t get a conference champ in? What’s wrong with 16? The other bowl games are meaningless so why not invite a few more teams to the playoff? To your point, I guess we’ll see what Miami does in the next game. The “other bowl games” conversation is over. Go to 16 in the playoffs. Being able to win it is not the only point, it’s a recruiting tool.

We just need to go ahead and assume there will always be people ready to complain when we get #1 vs #16 matchups and the likes. It's the price we'll have to pay for tournament play. Fair trade off I guess.

People need to play the long game. OK, I get it. Sure there will be some mismatches and, thus, lousy games. That happens. But, if Carolina can get good enough to get into the playoffs, that will undoubtedly be a tremendous boost to our recruiting. Players, recruits, want the chance to play for all the marbles. Why? Because they know that improves their NFL draft status. They know that will put more NFL eyeballs on them. That's why you don't see players opting out of playoff games. We are capable of making a 16-team playoff. We have finished in the national Top 16 six times. Opposition or support to expanding the playoffs to 16 comes down to whether you are a football fan first or a Carolina Gamecock fan first.

EPIC failure by the home team, though. Never in the end zone this day and time is fireable. Someone needs to be offered up. Reed vanished the last two games. Fire his @$$ also.

This is most important. No automatic qualifications. This will not happen however.
Let the computers pick the best 16 teams. Don't worry about representation. It's a bogus requisite.

Maybe, just maybe TAMU players should have kept their mouth shut instead of saying they weren't worried about Rubin Bain and the Miami DL.
Rubin Bain vs TAMU. 5 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 TFL, 1 blocked FG.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

I have way more of a problem with Tulane and James Madison than either of the teams mentioned in this thread!

Oh, they are impostors right out of the box. My recommendation would utterly relegate them to non-CFP involvement FOREVAH!

Nobody will convince me that a team like Vanderbilt wouldn't have given Ole Miss or Oregon a better game. Two wasted games today by letting these pretenders in the CFP.

But a lot of people watched.

I think we need to stop thinking of it as the "12 beat teams" and think of it as games to get viewers.

I can see an argument for the best 12 getting better viewership, but I think long term exclusion of just about everyone but the B10 and SEC will hurt viewership worse than one or two David and Goliaths each year.

Either it's a true championship or it's not. Get the 12 or 16 best teams in there using dispassionate digital means and stop with this pretense.

I wouldn`t complain about that game - went down to the wire. You must have really disliked the last 2 games today - hopefully everyone did. I just hope all of the CFP committee watched the last two games in their entirety - I watched some of the first half of each then found something better to do. So simple - 1-16 after the last CFP poll then seed them. No automatic bids, no byes. If you win your conference championship and don`t(Duke) get in, at least you are your conference champion. That doesn`t mean we should have to watch you in a mismatch a couple of weeks later.
