Brohm is a better offensive coach. Stoops is a better defensive coach. Gotta have defense to win in the SEC. Lesser conferences, not so much. Offense will win a lot of games.
That better offensive coach down the road beat Vandy, an SEC team this year, something the better defensive coach up here couldn't do. And if they had UK on the schedule this year instead of LSU they would have been undefeated in conference play.
Personally I believe either style head coach can win at that level provided he hires suitable coordinators and assistants to compliment his strengths and cover his weaknesses.
I don't think Steve Spurrier was considered a defensive guru, but he won in the SEC because he hired coordinators like Bob Stoops to take care of things on that side of the ball. Likewise, when Stoops got his chance at OU he hired an offensive guy, Leach to take care of that side of the ball.
Truth is you have to have all three-offense, defense and special teams to win consistently in the SEC or any of the P5 conferences. The best teams have consistent play from all three for the entirety of each game.
This season we barely had all three show up at at any one game and we never got a complete game out of the entire team.
Historically on a good day we get two of three to show up for a half at best and that is why we are what we are and will continue to be until that changes.
