The third place ACC team playing for the national championship in its home stadium.
Why would they schedule a CFP Championship game in any team's home stadium, even if they felt that team had no chance to make it to the CFP Championship?

These schedules are made years in advance. There is just no possible way to know who will be in any CFP game let alone the championship game.
Ole Miss - UGA was played in the Sugar Bowl just a week ago, advantage Ole Miss ?
It's just a very long shot coincidence.

Limited number of facilities that are considered proper venues.

And probably something to do with $$$.

The ‘86 game against those Convicts still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I hope they get destroyed! Absolutely embarrassed! That would make me smile.

Y'all realize if Indiana wins it all, they go from the most futile D1 program in history to national champs... once again leaving us in the dust of teams that can't seem to get out of their own way.

It's more coincidence than anything. Miami happens to play in Hard Rock Stadium; it's not Miami's stadium.

If UCLA somehow made the CFP and Rose Bowl, they'd be playing at home as well.
Or if UNLV makes the CFP championship next year, they'd play at home.

Remember Ken Dorsey, QB for Miami in 2002? What a dick. Glad Ohio State beat Miami that year.

And Mendoza is from Miami. If IU advances there will be good storylines for both teams.

That's a golden situation, but this is going to come down to strength on strength. If they grab the brass ring, it won't be due to venue. As noted, they were in the same situation before during the bowl era. It's easy to remember this one, which Miami lost, played the night before our first bowl win ever, played in the same city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1995_Orange_Bowl Nebraska was a stout mamma-jamma back then.

Are you referring to the 1987 game, when the Miami player body slammed Todd Ellis well after the whistle? We did lose to them in '86 in Williams Brice, but I remember the '87 game leaving the worst taste in my mouth. That Miami team went undefeated on their way to their 2nd national title (after winning the Orange Bowl). Only two teams played them to within a TD during the regular season: They beat FSU by 1 point in Tallahassee and they beat us by 4 points in Miami.

They knocked Ellis out of the game - eliminated him - it's as simple as that. Another recollection is that it was the only regular season game that came after the UPC game other that one involving a trip to Hawaii. It was a most unusual circumstance.

We played West Virginia one year after Clemson. It was cold.

Another reason this expanded CFP is moronic. Nobody thinks UM is anywhere close to the best team in the country. Not even in the conversation They lost to two unranked teams. IU is unquestionably the better team, without debate. They've won 15 games in a row, but if they lose to UM, no title just b/c Miami happened to lose their games back in October and November. It's just dumb to make teams keep winning and winning and winning when they've already proved they are the best team in college football. You gotta play another quarter of a season. The 4-team CFP was flawless in having the best team win each season.

Well, the B1G reportedly wants to go to 24 teams. It's getting crazy now. "Four teams" was perfect as long as you thought of the big late-season games as preliminary rounds and all games as important, as they potentially were.

lol, so predictable. As soon as they came out with the 12-team playoff, it was basically deemed obsolete and in need of expansion to 16. We aren't even to 16 yet and they already think we need 24.

We already have it set up this year to possibly have the worst national champion ever if Miami pulls the upset. A 24-team playoff? Do we want teams who lost 1/4 of their regular season games playing for the title?

I said all along the CFP diminished the importance of the regular season. If you can absorb 3 losses and still have a reasonable shot at the CFP, the regular season basically doesn't mean anything.

These money grabs have destroyed the game.

You're right. It was the '87 game I was thinking about. If I remember, that '86 game was played in a monsoon rainstorm. But again, I might be remembering the wrong game. Memory isn't as sharp as it once was.

I think it's a tie-in with the bowl system.

IMO, for FBS, as I've mentioned in previous posts, expsn the playoffs to 16 teams, the higher seed hosts through the semi-finals, and the championship game can be scheduled for a neutral site. Put it up for bids like baseball. A long-term contract in a specific location (such as Pasadena to honour the old bowl system), or have bids for one-year only (like basketball).

If bidding were limited to NFL locations, that would likely reduce the chance of the championship ganme being played on a team's home field.

Then I imagine you advocate for truncation of FCS, NCAA D-II , D-III, and the NAIA to four teams in each division.
