In the last 4 years penn state has been a projected 5/6 seed in the NCAA tournament, made another bid with a 20pt round of 64 win, and played in big ten tournament final.

Anyone thinking that program is irrelevant is sorely mistaken.

They have a guy now who is a great coach and kids will go play for I find it hard to believe a school with the resources of Penn St lets him leave town nor would he want to leave town especially for the kind of jobs he’s been linked to.

They just made the tournament for the first time since 2011.

What does being projected matter if they don’t make it?

LOL.

Penn State is a solid team right now but they’re the oldest team in the country. I honestly have no idea what their recruiting has been like but they will lose a ton of experience and talent and it can’t be an easy road for them to sustain where they’re at.

I know a ton of Penn state fans and alums. They’re rabid and obsessed with football.

None of them seem to care about basketball.

Other than being a BIG10 program, it’s not a great long term job if you have better options unless they get out of that dump arena and change the culture of their fanbase to actually care.

People here talk about Rutgers covid year bid all the time I figured every program gets that courtesy.

With the portal they can do just fine. They’re the oldest team but their top 4 players were added via portal this off season and last.

Lundy and Pickett in 21 and funk and wynters in 22. They will go right back to the portal coming off way more exposure and be old again next year.

They will def hit the portal hard but i don’t think it will be an easy rebuild. They have a really good mix of players right now.

If Schrewsberry took Georgetown or ND it would be a big rebuild (massive for GT) but still feel like those are better jobs than Penn State.

ND is probably marginally better but him being from Indiana, it’s probably an appealing job to him.

I am curious if ND could pry him away on merit alone,I don’t think they can. If he wants to go back to Indiana that’s one thing but I expect it would be at a discount.

With all the ND football news this offseason of the AD not ponying up for Freeman to get the OC they want, there’s gotta belittle chance they can pay what Penn St can.

He didn't get lucky. He's a good coach who knew his team and gave them exactly what they needed. Excellent coaching move that I said at the time
He’s both. He got lucky with the portal and has the most experienced team in the country. Four portal guys. Same thing with Pitt, who is the oldest team in the country and the average age is older than the Orlando Magic. Covid year has made a difference.

I think he’s a very good coach but he also manipulated the system better than most. Ed Cooley did the same thing last year at Providence. Key might just be getting older and stronger players.

Painter’s biggest mistake was relying on two freshman guards. Should have brought someone in.

From a GTown buddy who’s an alum and big booster. His cronies are hearing they want Cooley from Providence as their 1st choice. Not sure why Cooley would leave Providence but I’m sure money talks!
My GTown buddy said they were going to pony up the $$ to go after him!

The basketball world overreacts to success and to failure. Micah seems to be a good coach. He is trending upwards now with an impressive run into the post season. Just a few weeks ago when they were projected as last 4 out folks were saying he’s overrated and too one dimensional relying on transfers shooting 3’s. That their early season success was a fluke and they normalized to the lower regions of the Big before these last several games.

The same folks were preparing a throne for Pike at mid-season, but are now giving him a short rope for next year.

Yo-Yo reactions everywhere 😉
A short rope for next year? Anyone who said that is a moron.

Psu has a $140 million budget deficit. Climate is not good to spend on a bb coach.

They are only relevant if Shrewsbury stays. If not, it's back to square 1.
