Match starts at

141 Petersen UR vs 28 Gave up a quick TD, worked hard to get an escape, Bottomline is he was just slightly out gunned and the problem with that is. If you can only carry 30 Wrestlers, you will need basicly everyone in the room to be better then top 28!!! 65

149 BLOCK 19 vs 15 Was a crazy scramble that we lost leading to 1st TD. BLOCK just could not get anything going till a late effort in the 3rd that wasn't enough. Kid looks like night and day not sure what is going on???? 65

157 WILLIAMS 14 vs 13 Williams look real good in 1st. was mostly controlling mat and moving forward creating pressure which lead to 1st TD. The Mich kid took DUKE to the wall last week so you can see what WILLIAMS could/should be but the match quickly went to SHeeeettt 65

165 CALIENDO 3 vs UR Got to work and like a FR8 TRAIN just kept building MOmentum!!!! 95+ with a PIN being a 100 here. Not sure who fills his shoes next season!?!?!??!

174 KENNEDY 3 vs 11 as usual KENNEDY is doing ALL the work with little to nothing to show for it!!!! I still do not understand why there is no development in the short O???? From snaps to sprawls he probably gets there a dozen times a match and does not score!!!!! I was worried about this match up because of the kids lanky, scrrownee zackley body!!!! It should NEVER have been close but this match was BAD!!! 55

184 ARNOLD UR vs 7 ( NEW shoes of course) we come out in a MUST win situation and while it took ARNOLD till the TB he got it done!!!! 100

197 LUDINGTON UR vs 19 He shoots his Hi C cross the body, not getting corner, HELLO coaches!!! You need to FIX this!!!! Shot a nice single TWOOOO the other side for THREEEE wanted the ride out but did not get it!!!! IOWA on top and he throws a leg and he was not ever in good position( might be the last time we see that from him!?!??! NOTE it shouldn't be WORK on it FIX it, USE it!!!!) Getting riden hard a standing switch gets him 1 and a GOOD coaches challenge gets him another on LOCKED hands!!! IOWA down start 3 and gets out. Worked HARD to finish the match and get his 1st B1G WIN at CARVER 100!!!

HEAVY KUETER 8 vs 5 I have to believe this kid is still hurt and really taken one for the TEAM!!!! He is not wrestling anywhere near his ability!!! I hope that whatever it is, it gets right soon!!!!!

125 PERTERSON NOT a GR8 match but a needed win GUTTED out give him the 8-3

133 AYALA 8 vs UR . KNEW what was out stake and he got out fast and went hard breaking the kid early in 2nd for the TECH!!! Feel good for him!!!!! 100

141: Out-matched. Ragusin is good and Petersen is not.
149: WTF. I was high on Block for 15 minutes, but he ain't it.
157: WTF. Stopped wrestling after the first TD. Lazy. Sloppy. Sad.
165: Thank God.
174: WTF. If he has not learned how to score from a front headlock by now, he never will.
184: Glad he won, but he was WAY too happy with that win. Acted like he won the Olympics, not beat a fringe AA in SV with zero offensive points.
197: Ludington is still a project, but this was the biggest win of his career.
285: WTF.
125: WTF. SV against #27? Seriously? So...you hoisted him up on your shoulders, walked him back to the center of the mat...then kept walking with him over to the OTHER side of the mat, tried to dump him and, for obvious reasons, ran out of room. More proof that we are living in a computer simulation. Nothing that stupid could possibly occur in the real world.
133: Thank you Drake.

Brands: F. Dude, you were a warrior on the mat, but it's time to go. You are not the guy to lead this team back to the top. We need a fresh start. You are tarnishing your legacy and, worse, you are tarnishing the legacy of the program. If we weren't living in a computer simulation, you would know that.

Very honest and accurate assessment. Our staff seems to have taken the life out of our wrestlers. They are literally doing nothing but handfighting for 7 f*cking minutes and then hoping for a Hail Mary. WTF has happened to Iowa wrestling. I would love to hear Beth say prior to B10s that Iowa will be moving in another direction at the end of this season. We need maximum time to find the right man and the right assistants to bring this team at least back to respectablity. And FWIW, every time the camera men and women showed parts and pieces of CHA I saw tons of empty seats. That in and of itself is embarrasing. We need to act now...we can't wait another year; hell, I don't think we should wait another week. And I will forever say, I love me some TNT...but their best coaching days are clearly in the rearview mirror...about three years too long. DT was the catch and we f"cked that up so now we have to get what we can before it's too late...

My father and others won't even go to a meet for free anymore. I haven't given up on the hawks, but you would think they would wrestle like their coach did and not their asst coach. The comment above about front headlocks and being flattened out is so repetitive by our guys, sad wrestling. Wrestling has changed, we need some change too. I thought the seniors did wrestle well, minus Dean. PK wrestled a guy who stalled the whole match, but should have wrestled smart at the end. I think he still places high, thanks seniors.

Going to RUMBLE on this a lil L O N G E R

So we started at 141 which actually turned out good for us as AYALA finished the meet going out with a nice win/TECH to seal the deal!!!

Having a limit of 30 wrestlers does not seem to be enough for the larger programs. Maybe have a development squad or something? Because a kid like PERTERSEN whose dream maybe to Wrestle at IOWA deserves a chance!!! Problem is, if you can only carry 30, kids like this can't have a spot because in an event like what just happened, and you need a fill in, kid is just not there.

BLOCK is leaving me scratching my head. He HONESTLY looked like a surefire AA and MAYBE even someone who could battle for the title in some early matches!!! Is he dinged up????? Not sure but maybe time to rest him and get ready for B1Gs????

WILLIAMS has the talent but just can't keep it together for an entire match. He is also in that mold that we do NOT wanna see- get a TD/small lead, and try on hold on!!!

CALIENDO is going to be SORELY missed!!! and I don't know who you have or get to fill here???

KENNEDY man that was a mess!!! As TARPHAWK and I have said, WHAT!?!?!?!? Is the B1G issue with learning how to score from SHORT-O/FRONT HEADLOCK????? He snapping the heck out of the kid, working his *** off-now kid was stalling his *** off but still!!! Side cradle, Cement Mixer, Chin and spin, ......

ARNOLD I cut some slack because he is NOT a 184, gives up TWOOOO much height!!! Certainly was not a GR8 match but was a MUST have win!

LUDINGTON's Technique is NOT good!!!!From were I sit, he is wrestling like a quality HS kid at best. There needs to be a HEAVY dose of IRON and DRILLING!!! SHOULD BE a solid warm up, followed by an hour of HARD work lifting, followed be an hour of Drilling 4 times a week, with extra workouts added as you can!!!

KUETER is a bit of a mystery and I honestly feel bad!!! I have to think he is not able to get his full workouts in or something at is really stepping up for his team!!! This is one of those things I have been saying. At IOWA the demands are HIGH!!! I remember SAM STOLL stepping in at CARVER in a B1G spot when he had been out for a while and clearly was NOT 100%!!!

GUESSING that "demand" is what lead to "our" 197 leaving??? You know if you are kind of banged up it is a different bread of kid who puts TEAM 1st!!!

PERTERSON yea was an UGLY win but one we HAD to have!!!

VERY happy AYALA was able to go out at HOME like he did!!!

Right now this season leaves you hoping/guessing. You are HOPING for a B1G performance/turnaround for a BUNCH of guys which leads to a quality showing at POS ncaa's!!!

You are GUESSING IF it can get done, and what happens IF it does not!?!???!

That was one of the strangest sequences I've seen in a while. Mat awareness shouldn't have been an issue, he saw where he was going.

Williams showed he is quick and athletic. If he gets in deep 10 seconds earlier in the first and second periods I think he gets 3 takedowns in that match. His athleticism alone keeps me hopeful on him, but man is his mat awareness awful. If he can put it all together he will be dangerous in a tournament setting, but I'm not confident he can do that.

Lud needs a lot of work. His reaction time is slow. With a lot of work he may pan out.
Block appears to have gone backwards. Looked much better earlier in the year.

141 (D-). I'd give him an F but he was taking shots, albeit flailing shots.

149 (C). Love the effort, losing that scramble in the first period was the match. Block goes hard and I still think he has a future.

157 (C-). Did everything but win the match. He does a lot of head scratching things while out there. Has to trust his offense and stay focused for 7 straight minutes. Oh and he needs to learn how to sprawl as well.

165 (A+). Relentless, constant attacks and pressure. Heart and soul of the team.

174 (C-). Was in complete control. Did everything right but win the match. A mental lapse, inability to defend his legs, inept in scrambling positions, and afraid to commit to a shot. Love me some PK but he is what he is at this point. Could be a blood round guy or mid AA.

184 (B). He won and needed to. He has offense buried somewhere inside of him and needs to wrestle a little more loose and freed up. So what if he gives up a TD in the first period, he can get to his shot and needs to trust himself more.

197 (B). A work in progress but he won. Unorthodox style and needs a lot of work in the off-season on bottom and a go to shot. Not down on him or high on him. Got a taste of winning in front of the home crowd so hopefully that increases his confidence moving forward.

285 (D-). Something is wrong mentally or physically or both. I'm not going to pile on as his struggles have been well documented. I will say this, he's not losing because he's 30 pounds lighter than the best guys. He's within 10 pounds of most of the top guys now. No more weight excuses.

125 (C+). He has more to give than what he showed in that match. He won but if he opened up could've pushed for a major.

133 (A+). Did what he had to do. His confidence is building and has a shot at the podium, something I didn't think a month ago. A great representative of Iowa wrestling and wish we had 5 Drake's and 5 Caliendo's in the lineup.

You are spot on at 174. If PK is going to aggressively snap down and control front headlocks 15 times a match, figure out how to score from those positions or quit wasting energy on them. Use your strenghths to your advantage.

One last question on the 174 match. For those more knowledgeable than me, why was Fishback's (spelling?) a takedown against Gabe, but PK's wasn’t a takedown in sudden victory last night? Looked exactly the same to me and both calls cost our guys both matches while being ruled opposite against them?!

Im not sure why it wasn't challenged. But the ref last night was anything but favorable to Hawks with calls so I doubt he would have changed it anyway. PK really didn't need to put him in that situation last night but it is what it is.

Agree with many things you said, but can't help but focus on your roster size comment. Sure, more is always better in one sense, but if 30 (3 guys per weight) isn't enough to field a kick *** team with some solid backups, what better testament to the reality that recruiting is the clear #1 problem. We don't need even more hopeful projects, crossing our fingers some eventually shine.

He really isn’t a true 174 pounder.

How can you say he’s not a 174 pounder 3 years there 1 AA there. Man people like to make excuse. I have watched PK sinice he was in youth wrestling. He is the same kid since those days. Was a machine coming out of HS and TNT have slowed him down.

Let me try to explain. I agree 30 guys is plenty to build a team. What I am trying to say is, College Wrestling, by % of opportunities for a HS kid, is already the lowest in all POS nccaa sports. I forget the numbers, and now with girls programs it most likely changed some? BUT there was something like maybe a 2% chance of a HS kid going on to wrestle at ANY level in college.

So what could it hurt to carry more walk-ons. Besides the fact the SCUMBAG Krailure would skirt the rules!!! Why not have a "development roster" or something kind of like Baseball. Say you have your 30 man roster, and you can have 5-10 kids who are on the development squad. Maybe they have to be walk-ons and can not receive any $$$$ unless the make the team roster etc....

It would give kids a chance at maybe a dream, or maybe even developing!!! Maybe a local IOWA kid walks on, maybe he becomes good enough to fill in a few matches over his career or better? He could possibly transfer and start somewhere else etc....

Bottomline is, I want to see Wrestling GROWING and NOT shrinking which it is(STOP counting girls wrestling for the LOVE of GOD!!!) I have posted MANY times about what I see as the future as POS ncaa and the gr* Krailure KILL USA wrestling!!!

AMAZINGLY they (POS ncaa) has the attention of none other then TRUMP!!!! He UNDERSTANDS business/$$$$$. He clearly stated how these colleges are going to BANKRUPT themselves and/or going to have to make CUTS!!!! Again, TWOOOO small D1 programs out my way who can no longer "Draw Water" I can EASILY see going "South" !!!

AND honestly, why would you blame the POS AD!??!? Skool is losing $$$$ in the athletic dept. Maybe they have a few teams that have some support and do well???? The wrestling team has NO support, NO fans, NO champions, NO AAs......... Just costing the skool $$$$$$, there is NO future to say, " well maybe if we bring in some new coaches....... It is already pretty hard just to get coaches!!!!

huh????? READ bellow

Actually wrestling while one of the most competitive sports for making a college team is not the most difficult NCAA sport for high school athletes to advance to in college. See table below. The entire data report can be accessed at:

One guy has been at their weight for like 3 years now; the other wasn’t sure going into the season if he’d be 74 or 84. If Kennedy isn’t a full size 74 lber by now that’s on him and the coaches. The fact Arnold isn’t a full size 84 lber isn’t his fault and he deserves some sort of pass.

His point is valid. Yes, you can make yourself “grow” into a weight class, but that doesn’t mean the weight class is ideal for his body type. If not for Caliendo, Kennedy would almost certainly have wrestled 165 his entire career….

TY for posting this!!!!

According to this chart, the % is 5.2 overall!!! That leaves tennis, I mean TENNIS!?!?!?? as the ONLY "sport" lower!!!! Just watch though. More then likely, you will not see skools cutting tennis!!!! Relatively cheap sport that basically no one gives a SHEEeeet about till you get to Whelpton oh some crap, or their is a hot girl in a short skirt!!!! (SORRY FACT!!!)

I mean just take a look at the WINTER OLYMPICS!!!! B1Ggest headline is some spead skaters (who dates that ASSHAT guy) CAMEL TOE!!! AGAIN FACT!!!!! Could anyone tell me what events, what times she got, bet NO!!!! but they will know the CAMEL TOE!!!!

I actually coached wrestling with a HALL of FAMER who coached Girls Tennis in the spring!!! I was busting his balls about not coaching a MANS sport when he said. " I have girls who mostly have private coaches, the matches are "OFFICIATED" by the PLAYERS themselves!!! (Get this, as you are playing a game against another team, you make the calls like a game at the skoolyard!!!) AND he went on, we were heading to the COUNTIES and the girls were having a BAKE SALE that day!!!!

Just image heading to YOUR wrestling Counties(you may call it Regionals etc... meet before STATES!!!) and your wrestlers instead of going through an intense practice, drilling, cutting weight etc.... They are holding a bake sale!!!!!!! GET YOU COOKIES RIGHT HERE FOLKS Fity cent each or tree for a dollar!!!!!

SORRY guys I am a REALIST and it would be MUCH better if you-all would join me to be 100% HONEST!!!!

That isn’t how it works. Most men stop growing before college, especially wrestlers. Yes, you can absolutely “fill out”, but that doesn’t mean the weight you are at is your IDEAL weight.

By all accounts PK is very disciplined and I am pretty sure 165 would have had him at his best. Now, that doesn’t mean he would place any higher cuz 165 has been a murderer’s row at the top for a while now, but I am confident he would have wrestled at his best at that weight…
