I kept thinking "that should be us!" going toe-to-toe with Indiana. Now Indy fans know how we feel. The ending was very reminiscent of how UM beat us; knock down the tying 3 with under a minute, then get the last shot and connect. Kudos to them. Hope our NIT chances improve, I think we would be a worthy opponent for any team in the NIT field.

How does that affect out NIT chances? I have to think it takes them out of NIT and us in.

Hmmmm? I wonder.

I've seen one NIT bracketology that listed these teams as "also considered:" Arkansas, Boise State, Davidson, East Tennessee State, Fresno State, James Madison, Long Beach State, Marquette, Memphis, Northwestern, Oakland, Ohio, Rhode Island, Richmond, Siena, Stanford, Texas A&M-CC, Texas-Arlington, UC Santa Barbara, William & Mary.

I've seen another list from last night that mentioned these teams as also considered: Davidson, Boise St., Northwestern, Marquette, Fresno St., UCSB, Long Beach St., UT Arlington, ETSU, Albany, Louisiana Tech, Nevada.

Once again, this might come down to whether RPI or kenpom is the dominant deciding factor. At a quick glance of RPI, there are a bunch of teams ahead of NU. With kenpom, NU may be the highest rated of all these teams. (I just did a quick glance.)

I think it's still a longshot. If it comes down to one team, I'm not sure I'd choose NU ahead of Marquette.

I'll admit I don't follow the NIT selection criteria very closely, but are we even sure that KenPom, RPI, have even close to the same importance for the NIT selection committee as it does the NCAA selection committee? In other words, NU's RPI basically says: no chance in hell for NCAAs, but maybe the NIT people are saying, "let's add this Big 10 team! I like Chris Collins! Home game in Chicago?" I mean, if I were putting together a tournament and wanted people to watch, I assume they'd consider schools like NU over ETSU or ATM-CC, right? I'm not saying the RPI is completely meaningless, but maybe it's not the important data point we think it is.

Michigan State is starting to look like the league's only shot at going deep in the tourney (we'll see how they play today). Every time I think one of the others is for real, they crap out.

We may or may not make the NIT but there is absolutely no way in hell that we get seeded high enough to play at home.
