Spoiler alert, it wasn't.

And recently Joe Biden said the populace need F-15s if they needed to accomplish what the founders accomplished. So thankfully the founders had the foresight to not limit the restraint on the federal government to muskets.
Right, so if people are arguing that they need an AR-15 to "take on the government" and Biden says you'd actually need nuclear weapons and F-15s then what the hell are you trying to buy ARs for? In a completely imagined scenario where the government were to actually show up at your front door and try to harm you, you are going to die whether you have an AR or not. There are limits to what these amendments are actually talking about.

Horrible news (at Michigan State)!
We shouldn't overlook other schools with tragedy's happening too. For example NC St has had 8 student deaths this school year (2 in the past week), I believe 5 were suicides. That is a lot!!!

When you consider how much people have lost over the last 4 years, from riots, the shutdowns, the lack of real healthcare, deaths due to delayed treatments, bankruptcies, and now costs going up, it's easy to see why so many are despondent, depressed, and losing hope.

Meh, this isn't that complex. People just don't want to fix it. 70% of the violent crime in this country is repeat offenders. We let repeat violent offenders out continuously with hardly any consequences.
Start building more jails and filling them up. It would go away overnight.

We lock more people up in this country than all of the developed nations combined. Yet other countries have far less gun violence than we do. According to your theory, we lock more people up than anyone else so we should have less crime. That’s not how it works. You aren’t addressing the source of the crime. Only reacting once it’s already taken place

An AR-15 is a 22. Why does anyone care why anyone else would own a 22? Won't even take down a deer if you don't hit the right spot. A car can be a deadlier weapon. You want to take those away as well. Bleach and ammonia next? Mercury?

No. It's not reacting once it's already taking place. 70% of violent crime in the FUTURE will be done by repeat offenders. If they are in jail, crime will be drastically lowered.

We have had countless times in our recent history where gun ownership has sky rocketed with no rise in violent crime.

There have been many instances of mass killings by driving a car into a crowd, pipe bombs in crowded areas, blowing up buildings, etc. Will banning guns slow down people killing or just force them to use other methods? My guess is if they are mentally unstable and want to kill others it will just be by another method. I mean how many people have been killed by using their bare hands, a piece of string or a rock? As has been said many times before the killing the end goal and the gun is just a tool to do it and if it's not available they will find another tool. They won't just say, well I don't have a gun so I guess I won't kill anyone. 🙄

I'd take my chances with a mentally disturbed person holding a string/rock vs. a pistol/rifle. Just me, though.

You aren't taking down a dozen people with most of those methods whereas a gun is much more efficient.

If anything that’s an indictment of our reformatory system. That people consistently come out worse than when they went in means there needs to be a fundamental change in how we deal with crime in this country. We need prison reform. Locking everyone up and throwing away the key isn’t a solution. It’s also very expensive to lock people up.

If we spent as much money supporting impoverished neighborhoods with resources, education, and advancement opportunities as we do locking brown people up in this country then much of this crime would go away. Your idea is not a solution. You can’t give every criminal life sentences. They’re still going to get out.

I’d love to see the studies where more guns equals less violent crime because I’ve never heard of such a thing

Over the past three decades (1991-2019), violent crime rates have dropped by more than half. The number of privately-owned firearms in the United States doubled in that same period

That statistic alone shows you that it can't be attributed to more guns. Anybody pushing that narrative is oblivious to the actual problem.

Also, the Obama administration did a very thorough research project of inmates. Only 10% of criminals acquired firearms through legal means. So any gun control measure AT BEST will be addressing only 10% of the problem.

1) is fascism, unconstitutional, and does nothing to solve the problem. It's just political fodder.

2) is something that needs addressed but that started faltering about 20 years ago when mental health went away from counseling and dove head first into medication. That needs reversed which will create market need for more counselors which will help towards solving the crisis.

3) this is false and a non sequitur.

4) if we aborted more people there would be less people to commit violence? Yes makes total sense.

What a post

Yeah pipe bombs and running through a crowd of people with a car will only kill 1 or 2.

Awfully slippery slope you're standing on there. You want to buy insurance for all the guns you own? I sure as hell don't. And your comparison of an AR-15 being the same as a .22 is disingenuous. I shoot AR's with my father (I only own a pistol for home security) and there is a vast difference in capacity and velocity compared to, say, his Ruger Carbine.

Not sure what you're on about here.

If laws worked, the law against murder, assault, etc would stop all these and all other crimes as well.

We have spent more money on poverty, impoverished neighborhoods, education, etc. There has never been a time in our history where there is more opportunity. We have to stop making excuses for people.
The fact is, there is a certain segment of our population that can't be allowed in public. You can't complain about violence in our country, and in the same breathe complain that we lock too many people up. 70% of this violent crime is done by repeat offenders. People who have had countless opportunities.
They are either locked up, or they are on the streets commiting violent crime.

I'm sure you thought you really said something there. Can we move on from talking about nonsense? Nobody said anything about bleach and ammonia so that was a little strange to bring up. Guns that can kill dozens in seconds should not be in the hands of regular citizens, there is no need.

What a post

1.) I notice you assumed that I want an outright ban on guns when I posted about doing "something" about guns. I own a gun and my family has an armory, I'm against ease of access to guns because I had to jump through hoops to get them. I'd start with going after the modification market, adjusting the age of ownership and a more rigorous process that is uniform across the country for acquiring a firearm. All sellers should be federally licensed (most already are). Less gray area = less confusion. No obfuscation of law enforcement when working with the state on issuing permits, etc.

2.) I certainly agree with you but the way we process healthcare generally needs to change. Parents with troubled children are in many cases poor. That likely means they don't have adequate healthcare. If taking your kid to the doctor results in possible bankruptcy, it's highly unlikely you will go. Perhaps they should have Medicaid if available but that isn't a real solution as many states didn't expand under Obamacare. Absolutely, though, we must move away from medicating every little boy who can't pay attention. It's maddening.

3.) You don't think there's an issue in this country with broken families and violent children? That, to you, is a non-sequitur? Those don't logically follow? Furthermore, you think we are doing enough to support those kids? There are school districts throwing food away rather than offering free lunch/breakfast. I pay for that breakfast, give it to the starving kid. There are parents turned away from counseling every day because they can't afford it or it isn't covered in their ****** insurance, that's ridiculous. We dumped these broken children on the school system and our police force, neither of which are equipped or capable of fostering them to a better future. Yet, here we are, debating daily shootings.

4.) Less unwanted children is the equivalence of less people in broken home situations which do lead to these issues. Look at the data on this, it's stark. There are some arguments that the reduction of lead also helped with this in both paint and fuel, but the numbers were already moving to less crime prior to that.

It was a good tongue in cheek post.

If you’re being honest, your post should be asking why this didn’t happen at this scale in America decades ago, before welfare, before Roe, before free healthcare.

Until you go there, you’re blaming everything but reality.

Not hard to tell that the majority of these shootings are in ghettos. I mean, just look at the list.. "Drive-by shooting".. "At a Popeyes".. "1300 block"

I'm sorry, but Norway doesn't have a City of Baltimore, now does it?

Side bar: I love that Norway tracks every demographic you could possibly imagine, but according to a quick Wikipedia search, Norway does not track ethnicity. Gee, convenient..

It was a good tongue in cheek post.

1) I didn't assume anything. Anyone mentioning gun control has a political motive and is not serious about addressing the actual issue.

2) If families are poor, they have free access to healthcare.

3) We're not doing enough to support kids? Who is we? Kinds nowadays have way more access to way more services than ever before. They were also forced into isolation for over a year and had their entire lives disrupted.

So the question isn't about the amount of "help". It's about if the "help" is actually helping and the people doing the helping are doing a good job. The answer is no it isn't helping and it's because the government is the one "helping".

4) If the proposed solution includes less children as a highlight then the proposal is already flawed. If it's less unwanted children, then abortion as a solution is also flawed.

The real answer is lack of accountability. Lack of accountability is the real contagion and all these Illnesses are its symptoms. Each and every one. How did we get to w society where there is no accountability? The government of course and it's failures at attempting to address needs it never needed to address.

That takes us back to the beginning.

It is if you did it in what you thought was self-defense. And it really doesn't matter if they had anything to do with the warrant or not, the warrant was bad so then no one should've been there.

So tell me again about the imagined scenario where the government shows up at your door to harm you.

And let me guess, you also think a bunch of rednecks almost overthrew the government of the United States on January 6, 2021 without ever firing a shot.

So let's not make it a PEOPLE problem, because it's not the PEOPLE that are making these decisions. It's clearly the guns.

What did Israel do? They let everyone walk around with guns. Open carry- like was originally a constitutional right here. Why does this work?

It works because it's a deterrent. What idiot is going to point a knife or a gun at a group of people with guns? Yes, an idiot or a gang member. Someone who WANTS to get shot.

The real problem isn't the guns, but the people and the reasons they do what they do. Why shoot people and THEN kill yourself? Why bludgeon people to death and THEN kill yourself? Why stab or machete a bunch of people and THEN kill yourself? Why not START with killing yourself?

Because people ARE SELFISH AND GREEDY and are being taught to be that way more and more every day for decades throughout this country.

They are disconnected from reality. They think it's a game. They think because they have been told since infancy that they aren't worth much if they don't have perfect looks, lots of money, lpts of talent, lots of friends, and/or lots of followers. In response to all of the emptiness people feel because the economics of it is that NOT EVERYONE CAN have these things, they are told they need to be even MORE SELFISH and focus on making THEMSELVES feel better. So they do, and it only gets worse.

Some people have taught their children it's not about things, jobs, money, approval. Its about respecting others and their property, rather thn coveting what other people have and dokng ANYTHING to get it. Their children are better off for it.

Others have given their kids anything they wanted and told them they were kings, queens, princes and princesses, and that all the bad things are everyone else's fault and responsibility.

When that faucet gets turned off .... either because they wake up or their parents run out of money or they lose their job or they do something really stupid... they lose it

The faucets are getting shut off all over this country. People that don't respect life and property are taking or burning both. They all think it's somebody or something else's fault when it's not. It's their fault. They chose to believe a certain way and not to change that belief.
Unless Israel has changed its carry laws recently, your second paragraph isn’t accurate

Which means this story will fade away because it no longer fits a narrative.
This story will fade away because there'll be a handful of other mass shootings in America by spring, but yes, narratives and such. Not sure why we don't just have a pinned mass shooting thread at this point.
It’s gonna be real interesting when the kids who have grown up having to deal with this **** take charge of things.
That's something I think about and actually look forward to. No easy answers of course, but I remember the survivors of the Parkland shooting in FL speaking out, addressing the media, the country, politicians. What'd they get in return? A bit of support online, mockery from Fox News hosts, and a dipshit conspiracy nut calling them crisis actors for a few years until he was sued into oblivion. That's what an older generation gave them in return for surviving a mass shooting at their school. Can. Not. Wait until kids who've actually lived through this ******** start making actual decisions for the rest of the country.

This is the only country on the planet where mass shootings happen on a daily basis. There are 20% more guns than there are people in this country. No other country comes close. More guns doesn’t make us safer. Quite the opposite. Gun safety laws work. There’s far too much data for it to even be a debate. I went to a flea market and saw a guy leaving with a new AR-15 and huge ammo box. No way that guy got a serious background check done at a flea market.
If you take out the top 17 cities in America then US isn't even in the top 10 murder rate. Guns are legal in this country. If you are scared of guns then move to Mexico.

The founders had muskets not ARs
The free press of the founders relied on movable type, had a lot of illiterate population, and no real distribution methods, not the Intrawebs, satellite and cable TV, social media, etc. So - we should cut back on that as well, right?

The Michigan State shooter had already been arrested on felony gun charges but the DA dropped those charges which allowed the nutjob shooter to purchase a weapon and now three people are dead.

Please, tell me more about how a lack of gun control laws is the problem. Or...perhaps we could have a real discussion about the mental health crisis in this country and the fact that we need to enforce the laws already on the books including mandatory max sentencing for repeat offenders. The ridiculous amount of soft DA’s in this country (thanks Soros!) and the idiot ideological elite lefties with their blind bail fund shenanigans should be front and center in the discussion as well.

The thrust of the problem isn't the number of guns or to some extent the type of gun, rather it's WHO has access to guns. Common sense reforms like universal background checks and red flag laws are positive things that can be done without jeopardizing gun owners rights, and poll after poll shows the vast majority of Americans including gun owners, support these things. Especially red flag laws which I heard one analyst mention today that if Michigan had a red flag law it could have conceivably prevented this one.

Were the greatest country in the world and the argument that we can't do more to prevent these needless deaths without infringing on gun owners rights is pure hogwash.

How many past shootings could've been prevented had the processes, like these, already in place actually were followed? I remember at least a few, this one included.

But yes please give us some more "common sense" government solutions

• McRae had had to forfeit a weapon and was sentenced to a year of probation after he was arrested in June 2019 by Lansing police and charged with a felony for carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, Ingham County court and state criminal records show. But in that case, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and was discharged from probation in May 2021, court records show. -CNN

That is a really agenda driven article you posted “debunking” mass shootings. Seriously sounds like something the NRA paid to have published. The sources I used use a standard of at least 4 people shot to define a mass shooting which is really what it should be.
You're not far off. The MacIver Institute is a far right think tank. They'll publish whatever their donors tell them to.
