I think Smothers has a TON of support from the fans. From his loyalty, to his performance in his first start last year (folks don’t realize he only had 4 days of practice with 1’s the entire year to coming out like he should’ve been doing it all year), to the way the crowd has gotten loud this year the few plays he went in. Also cool seeing how the guys on the sideline responds to him. Natter if it’s a spark or a scoring drive that he could create for us you nailed it. Mickey hates not to see his boy not out there and Whip hates not seeing his boy out there. Smothers is neither of them….

Yeah Smothers was getting sooooooo much playing time before Mickey took over. Can't believe Mickey benched him.

I don't think smoothers can replace thompson (doesn't have the arm), but I do beleive he could have a good series or two giving the opposing d something else to worry about...I lil grant smoothers 1-2 combo might be able to break something open now and then

While I disagree with the OPs reasoning for not playing Smothers, I actually see where he may be the offenses best chance to put up points.
The oline is terrible. Maybe one of the worst in the P5. Last night we couldn’t run block or pass block. And we would have a lot less rushing yards if it were not for Grant being a stud. And the rushing total was terrible even with Grant.
Casey has been pretty good and super freaking tough. Zac Taylor tough. It’s not about him. It’s that the oline cannot block and Casey isn’t a good enough running threat to stop the blitzing.
I wouldn’t mind Smothers getting some snaps if the line is being inept. Just to change the game up and give the offense a chance.

Better option than starting your third string QB over the first and second string:
Should sit all the QB's. Let Grant play QB. That way, none of the QB's risk injury.
I agree. Smothers isn’t the guy. And it’s not because of some grand conspiracy theory or because Mickey doesn’t know his Pa, it’s because he isn’t as good. But his legs do bring an element to the offense that I think we could/should use.
If a mobile QB has no place in Whipps offense why did he want Watson so much? He’s been recruiting WW since 8th grade. I honestly just don’t understand Whipp. It’s like he’s more about doing it his way then what we can do. Maybe Bill Busch needs to read Old Hat, New Hat to him.
there is a difference between a mobile QB and what we have behind CT (NAIA passers, at best)

really wish the Gretna kid was coming next year, too. we need all the QBs with arms we can get
Unless he comes in cold, tries to do too much and fumbles the ball. We've seen that play before
true, I'm not saying replace thompson with him,but maybe if thompson is a lil off from a hit or interception just slide purdy or smothers in for a series or two..thompson ain't going to the nfl at the end of this season, but he might the year after...he has a arm.. so it's might be wise not to get him abused...

like frost's deep love affair with martinez, where he would'nt let any other qb even look at a football...I think that might have hurt martinez not giveing him a breather or two..

I miss the days of the back up qb's playing the second half in alot of game...
We need to get Smothers ready for when leipold brings the option back to Nebraska next year.

He won’t play next year if Leipold is the head ball coach. Smothers will utilize his legs to win. Against good teams
I think Smothers could win games for us but Whip would have to change his offense to fit Logan’s skill set
I guess therin lies the question: what can we do? Right now, from my living room room view, I don't see us doing any aspect very well but overall OK. How can anyone watch this team and all the sudden assume we can start running the ball? No way.
Tom’s staff could have won a lot of games with these same players and Smothers at QB.
Will Palmer also be benched next year? He’s clearly only playing ahead of Wyatt Liewer because, well, you know…
I'm convinced Frost and Davidson offered Logan because one of them was trying to bang his mom more so than get him to play QB here.
When Thompson drops back it’s never a 3 or 5 step drop. It’s always like 12. I get the line is bad, but he rarely steps up. He always goes back, back, and more back quickly. and the opponents know this. Little pocket presence.
NU can run the ball if TO loans us one of the pipelines.
Instead, NU's OLines do most of their damage in the Buffet Lines.
