That poll says they rank teams based on tradition, personnel and strength of schedule.

1) Umm...what tradition? The closest that program has ever gotten to a state title game is watching one on TV.

2) Umm...what personnel? How many high profile BCS recruits have they had in their entire history?

3) Umm...what strength of schedule? They've played one ranked team all year, and that was a Raleigh ranked team.

I don't get it, but nonetheless, it's good pub for the state. Well...at least it will be until they get blown out coming up.

The USA Today Poll has historically been based upon hype and number of recruiting starts regardless of what they claim but can't hurt to have a NC school mentioned. As for:

1-tradition? MCHS only came into existence in 2002 and they've won 78% of their games since (let me be the first to point out that most of them came in Wake County. Sorry). Have to start somewhere. I get that Mallard only came into existence in 2007 and everyone would love to have the athletes and size they have but around August each year, you have to play with who's in your school. MCHS has done pretty well with what they have so far. They've never had a NFL player other than Hubert who made the Arizona roster for 3 games this year before being cut. 94% of all NC schools have only come as close as watching a title game but they still try every year.

2-none, but you still have to play with the kids that go out for football.MCHS has 1 scholarship offer - Daniel Jackson who is headed to Army. Lots of schools with kids who will play at the next level are not playing this Friday night. Lots of them. Says more about them, their team and their coach than those still playing.

3-Out of Conference schedule has not been outstanding, no doubt but not many teams want to schedule MCHS given they have no tradition, no history, no BCS recruits, have never played in a championship game etc but win a bunch of games. No upside for the good teams to schedule MCHS but I hope they improve it over time. It's hard to change the conference SOS. You have to play the teams in your conference. Lots of polls out there so I'll choose one that fits me (Simmons) but MCHS did play and beat #10 Garner, #26 Sanderson, #29 Rocky Mount and #51 Wakefield. Hard to hold it against them that they didn't play Richmond since Garner(a team beaten once by MCHS) put them down. Hope Mike drowns his sorrows at home or uses Uber.randy

MCHS continues to improve. They have a quick, hard hitting defense. Not very big but smart, quick and aggressive. The offense is a tempo/scheme driven unit that is 100% dependent upon the QB - a great kid. They have trouble running the ball.

They will have their hands more than full Friday night with Eaddy back. He's a stud.

Leonard's Losers might call it like this:
"Thurman Leach leads his Trojans into the Ranch for a roundup Friday night with Rambling Randy Ragland's Mustangs. The men of Troy have won 5 of the last 9 against their southeast Wake brethren and look hobble the Stang's gallop. The Middle Creek team is small, but feisty and will just get the job done. Leonard's Loser? Garner."

I say 24-21

I know, that's why I'm surprised they would give Middle Creek a look. That's not really their M.O. over the years.

Anyway, enjoy it while it lasts. It's always fun as a fan for a up-and-rising program to accomplish something it's never done before.

Does Middle Creek has any opens on their schedule next season? Northeastern is looking for a 4A team for next season. Heck Rocky Mount almost beat Middle Creek this season and Edenton/Holmes gave Rocky Mount all they could handle so you can never predict what's going to happen in a football game.

Rocky Mount didn't almost beat Middle Creek. Middle Creek pulled their starters and Rocky Mount scored at the end of the game to lose by 12 points. The year before this season Rocky Mount nearly beat Middle Creek. Rocky Mount is tough as nails. They won state last year and are in the hunt this year too.

Originally Mr. P-Diddy, I am a Purnell Swett fan
Then Coach Heil took up Fairmonts head coach position, so I followed him

Curiosity here. If Coach C coached Middle Creek, then did Garner just see the same Offense with us? Does Middle Creek still run that O and is it the same as RC? If so, was #8 playing for Garner when these two met? I think someone already answered that above, but I am too lazy to look. I would think Garner could have possibly just played a Middle Creek game simulation last week. If so, I would say Garner wins.

Raider7967, Middle Creek is in far better shape with Ragland at the helm than when Castellano was there. It's not even close. There's a reason Middle Creek went from 9-3 Castellano's last year to 14-1 last yr & 14-0 this yr under Ragland. The Mustangs are scoring more points on Offense & allowing less on Defense. Sorry your Raiders got the short end of the stick.

Wow...the score says it all. I won't get into anything in depth, but Middle Creek won pretty handily. Congrats to them.

The only thing I would question now is just how good is Middle Creek? Can they play with the West or make it a game? I guess they better focus on WF first.

The score was 49 to 15 MC in the third quarter. Middle Creek pulled their starters in the middle of the third quarter which I thought was to early BUT they avoided injuries. Garner left their starters in and scored a TD in the 4th then recovered an onside kick and scored again. Middle Creek had three pick six's called back. The score could and should have been worse. MC changed their offense up this year because of the skills of their QB Dominique Shoffner. It is a fast paced vertical passing game with multiple options on most plays. They throw maybe two screens a game. The majority of the passes are 15 yards or more downfield. No play list on the players arms anymore, they just hand signal from the sideline and the lineman aren't even looking at the sideline which is weird. Anyway, it works for them and they are very good defensively at all positions.

3 pick-sixes called back due to penalties. 2 by Daniel Jackson should have counted if not for foolishness. On the first, he picked it off and was on about the 4 and knucklehead lineman clipped about 40 yards from the ball with cheap shot. On the second, he returned it about 60 yards and they threw a very late roughing the passer. Questionable. The third was an absolute bock in the back. I've watched in on tape this morning and they got it right.

After the first possession coverage collapse, D looked very nasty.

WF will be a load but at least there's another game.

Also, felt sorry for the 3rd string RB - that fella is tiny and he got crushed when they tried to run out the clock kinda early. They ran him on 6 of the 9 plays and he got blow up every time. Hope he's ok.

That was a 5 foot 110 pound running back....freshman or sophomore....any way, the first team Garner D was killing that little guy. On one play Garners huge DE Butler smothered him and was laying on top of him. All you could see was the little guys feet sticking out from underneath. It kinda looked like Butler was giving birth to him.
